yttrium's competitive viewmodels

ContraDishSoapGuys leave yttrium alone, all he tried to do was help us out by giving us a way to have a bit more of an advantage. He isn't doing something particularly awful, so why treat him as he just majorly fucked up. It's not his fault that your stuck with large viewmodels on your screen, it was Valve's decision.

Valve wants the game to be as close to fair as possible so you have to expect this to happen, but yttrium nor Valve deserve to be attacked like this.

It was an exploit and it got patched, its time to get over it.

(Besides Valve is listening to us a bit, they did give us viewmodel_fov 70 in MM, so it's slightly better. It's a start and we need to appreciate the effort, it's probably our best chance to getting valve to letting us having more freedom in our viewmodels for awhile).

Honestly, try minmode if you haven't. It's way better for visibility than any old viewmodel fov solution was, and it literally never gets in the way of shots you're trying to make. It's the perfect middle-ground between gameplay and immersion, and if we HAVE to have viewmodels on, it works well.

I have tried minmode and have personally liked them quite a bit, I just never mentioned them in my post.
However there are a few noticeable flaws that may turn off some people from minmode viewmodels (mostly being the fact that they don't look completely centered when you attempt to line it up to your crosshair, I personally don't use them because I get weird placebo affects and have gotten use to the look of normal viewmodels, so it's a bit difficult for me to transfer to them completely).

EDIT: About the minmode crosshair thing, I've come up a bit puzzled, for a lot of the viewmodels it does infact look centered, but for some it just looks like the gun should be shooting to the right side of your crosshair.
I made these photos real fast and with sloppy lines, if you believe I'm off tell me and I'll edit this out. For now however let's look at the examples I have for the minmode viewmodels being off center.

PS: Ignore the fact that I'm playing on 640x480 and I for some reason didn't crop out the window and just leave the game to be captured.

Once again, I don't know if this is just a placebo feeling for me or if they are actually off-centered.

the fact that literally anyone is shocked by this makes me laugh

like fucking duh. In what world would valve allow this to be in the game rofl. They took a strong stance with viewmodels in an attempt to create consistency and recognizable streams, why would they let this stay in the game.

I'm too lazy to make another post on the other thread so feel free to quote me over there or whatever if you want.

For all the idiots out there that are saying that Valve is ruining their tf2 "user experience" by forcing a consistent platform for every player you clearly don't genuinely understand the steps valve is taking to help us. As a community we've always said that our competitive game isn't as big as it could be because the game you play when you launch it for the first time is not at all close to what you see in a competitive match or even a competitive stream. They are providing us with the ability to grow our scene through twitch and matchmaking, and if having a viewmodel on your screen is genuinely so awful to you, you might want to consider the fact that you might just need to grow a pair.

you can type viewmodel_fov 0 and ur viewmodel will turn off. they didn't cap it.

I heard that via preloading you can still get this to work (haven't tested its like 2:30am)
Do you reckon this'll lead to leagues banning it because of the reload exploit?

It's not that they're forcing vm's, it's that their logic doesn't follow. Want streams to look consistent well certainly not everyone is going to be streaming competitive so the confusion from differences in games is still there. Custom huds are still allowed which can make your game look different and provide an advantage since your screen isn't as clogged up. Also how is it a level playing field if I can't even use graphic configs or play an optimized game then how is it fair when i'm fighting someone who isn't lagging at mid fights and I am.

From what I can see preloading doesn't allow the reload thing to happen, which is kind of strange.

I like how removing viewmodels is defined as an "exploit", as if it's some nefarious deed people are committing when they just want to play the game the same way they have been able to for ~8 years

Nobody is shocked by this, everyone was shocked when Valve banned a bunch of known cheaters. That's the real joke.

The animation goes faster than it should but from what I've seen in a video demonstration the reload time itself doesn't change.

It used to. It still happens on listen servers but I found a way to get it working on regular servers too, but it seems that method was patched in the most recent update (despite not being listed).

Still works for me if I do this:
map itemtest
sv_pure 2
changelevel itemtest

and then queue up for comp. TBH I'm pretty sure all the steps aren't even necessary, lmao, I just figured it out when checking if it still works.

Yeah it still works if you preload. However the animations for unhidden things are a little screwy because they recently changed the animation files. I'll push an update tomorrow that's compatible somewhat, but you're still going to need to preload for Valve servers.

duh bruh
the default tf2 is absolute fucking garbage to introduce to somebody at current year and time
- damage numbers are off by default(i see so many new gibus players continue shooting seconds after killing someone, also they cant tell how much damage certain things do, there is no definite weapon damage spreadsheet or anything similiar for them to know that.. overdose deals like no fucking damage) (even some comp players dont use hitsounds so lets skip that shit, as it is rather annoying for people who spent thousands of hour playing this game);
- fov is 75(and you cant convince the fucker to switch to 90 no matter how you try, he'll just say "aight this is just fine")
- viewmodel fov is 54(every fucking dude that has made a letsplay/stream of this game has this obnoxious fucking thing that covers quarter of his screen(looks even worse with fov_desired 75)
- default crosshair is pure garbage, now you might say that for some things like scattergun or sniper rifle the crosshair is a-ok, but just look at the fucking pipe/rocket launcher crosshair, i mean even though the projectiles for them fly off-center they still land accurately in the middle of crosshair the fucking circle is not the best thing to use by all means, try guessing where it will land mid-long range, unless you spent last 5 seconds placing your crosshair
- hud, now this isnt the worst thing that affects experience but its not the least important thing in the game, the hp/ammo in the corner thing must die, nobody uses small-ass 15" 4:3 CRT's, everybody uses these hude 23" 16:9 monitors where you spend almost a second to quickly check how much ammo do you have, the minmode is not even a minmode, all it does is makes the hp/ammo and a bunch of other elements smaller, but they stay at basically the same place - in the corner; the damage numbers are red, this color is fucking unreadable, the hud hadnt even had damage numbers in the killcam, you had to roll the dice to guess it.
-network settings. theyre fucking awfull, i mean 20 updaterate/cmdrate? wtf? interp 100? hell no, every csgo player knows he wants his interp to be as low as possible; even in 2007 people had ADSL, i bet these made in 2007 accounting for dial-up users, but in 2013 only 3% of the populationg used dial-up(bet like 2/3 of this percentage comes from 3rd world countries) but if people had decent connection to download 13GB of this game, i bet they will have absolutely no problems with better game network settings
im pretty much sure that most of these settings is what made experience for those i know in real life from "hey, thats a decent game" into "lmao what is this cartoon shooter, why did he spent 3700 hours playing that?" uninstalling the game just after an hour

thats not even a definite list of things that not nececarilly directly ruin, but make first experience for new players god awful

i even see 1000 hour players "enjoying" their fov_75, default hud and net settings

running this under wine on linux seems like it would work fine, but no matter what folder i select it says "invalid TF2 Path!" :( do you think there would be an easy fix for this, or should i just get a friend to make a vpk for me?

I'm getting an error with 1.2 where "Select Team Fortress 2" Folder's grayed out, and whenever I try to install the animations, an unhandled exception occurs.
It says the number of entries expected in End Of Central Directory does not correspond to number of entries in Central Directory.

And here's what's output in the details:

face2facerunning this under wine on linux seems like it would work fine, but no matter what folder i select it says "invalid TF2 Path!" :( do you think there would be an easy fix for this, or should i just get a friend to make a vpk for me?

It's never going to work on Linux with WINE because TF2 for Linux doesn't ship with the necessary prerequisites that my installer needs - namely, studiomdl.exe. It's part of the Source SDK that only works on Windows, and I doubt studiomdl would run properly in WINE. You could try though. My installer checks to see if the path selected contains studiomdl.exe and vpk.exe in TF2/bin. Additionally those executables require a few of the DLLs from that folder on Windows as well. If you wait until a bit later when I'm home I'll make a zip for you.

VPKs made on a Windows install can be copied to Linux and OS X installs and they'll work just fine.

CarnI'm getting an error with 1.2 where "Select Team Fortress 2" Folder's grayed out, and whenever I try to install the animations, an unhandled exception occurs.
It says the number of entries expected in End Of Central Directory does not correspond to number of entries in Central Directory.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Nope. Just tried to reset its read-only state, just in case. It still came up with the error.

Does it work if you run CompVMInstaller as admin?

They even thank yttrium for pointing out the exploit while laughing .... You´ve honestly should´ve sold it for 20$ or sold it to the people who developp cheats for this game and get a percentage off of it.

sv pure bypass has been part of lmaobox since like forever

sv cheat bypass for shit like this has also been part of nullcore since recently

valve once more demonstrates their retarded line of thinking of "preventing" cheating through not letting legitimate players enjoy their game while still letting cheaters do whatever the fuck they want since they're pretty much full on cheating and they do more than this lmao

dumb as fuck

Nope, tried that out, too.

Quick edit: I just re-installed 1.1, and the install works with that version.

Huh. Gunna be honest I didn't actually test 1.2 before pushing it, let me try it out.

Didn't Valve remove the sv_pure custom animations due to "exploits?" (I think that they might've meant this)

When set to hide the spies sapper, both 1.0 and 1.2 hide the stock sapper but not the red tape recorder for me.
I also got the same error as Carn using the 1.2 installer on the first computer I tried, however the installer worked on a second computer (both Windows 10, I don't know of any difference between them that would cause the error).

I'm not really sure what's going on with the 1.2 issues because it's also working for me. Nothing much really changed between 1.1 and 1.2.

I'll look at the red tape when I get some time, should be an easy fix.

After some further playing around, I found that neither 1.0 nor 1.2 hide the spies PDA (disguise kit), even when set to do so. Both versions will hide the engineers build and destroy PDAs.

I also feel I should clarify that I never tried the 1.1 installer, so it could have the same issues as 1.2 for all I know. I never had any issues with the 1.0 installer.
