a hint of irony in old brits being afraid other cultures will come in and take over their economy

Predictions:
Scotland Leaves UK because basically all of their constituencies voted to remain. They've come close before and this demonstrates a complete clash of opinion between states on an important issue where they don't have any autonomous democratic power.

David Cameron will probably resign. (Ok he did it literally as I posted this, previous post was 51 seconds before)

The UK economy will stabilise but any money net saved by not being in the EU won't be put into public services and will probably be spent with legislation trying to entice those companies that leave back into the UK, e.g. lowering of corporation tax.

I will take my inherited Irish citizenship and do a PhD somewhere either in Europe or further abroad and escape this island filled with toxic waste.

Cameron has now resigned as well. Some banks shares have dropped 30-40% (including Barclays I think). On the map a large portion of leavers either have low populations of "foreigners" or are in areas that don't get affected greatly by the EU which really says a lot about the UK and not being able to think further than their doorstep. Some outliers to this though would be all of Wales and South West England where they get a ton of funding from the EU to improve infrastructure. In fact Wales straight up benefits from the EU getting much more money than they even contribute so I don't know why that country voted to leave for the most part.

The North? You mean Scotland. They already tried to leave UK where it was a close vote and they stayed. It won't be a civil war, just their next referendum to leave will pass because they benefit from the EU.

this referendum really showed the downsides of democracy imo. (Was that the same churchill who said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others?)

I wish the best of luck to all of you brits who voted remaIN.
Now i just hope it won't cause a domino effect on many other EU countries. I still sincerely belive in a more united Europe. (My dream is actually United States of Europe)

for the most part, huge chunks of the UK were never really informed as to how either side would actually benefit/hurt the country

democracy only works when there's informed voters, this had old people who just really wanted immigrants to go away

The Leave campaign told us all the time about the £350m a week we would save by not paying the EU membership fee. In the first two hours after the announcement the economy lost £350b.

Edit: And now Farage denies he ever said they would spend that £350m on the NHS and says it was a mistake for them to say that

The funny thing is that because the UK wasn't a part of shengen in the first place, the immigrants that could get in now will keep getting in anyway. So in that regard brexit did absolutely nothing. Unless they massively invest more into border control.

(well actually it's more of a sad thing :( )
