dollarlayerThe big question is how can this be prevented? Dynamic IP from ISP that you can reset in the event of being DDOS'ed?

Alternate internet connection, or a 200 foot cable from a neighbors house? Tethered 4G LTE connection? There has got to be a viable workaround for these kinds of events. Oh and #BringBackLAN

I've heard that if you DDoS a college campus you can get into some serious shit because of their resources & connections, theoretically if every single person managed to play off college wifi they'd be able to play. This is unrealistic though.

Hopefully a reschedule can happen and the players can have the fair match they deserve. This is just a shitty situation for everyone.

samifaceliterally every season's lower bracket finals i've seen something has gone horribly wrong.

s19 - bo3 reduced to 1 map
s20 - ash leaves mid-game
s21 - DDoS 1/2 of froyo

none of this wouldve happened on LAN

Hopefully satellite internet shit like this http://www.freedompop.com/ becomes more available and reliable. I never tried playing tf2 with one of these little dongles but you can get 500MB of free data per month or pay a few bucks to have additional bandwidth in the event of internet troubles. I hear ping on LTE devices is usually like 70-80 ms? That's at least more playable than 200 ping...

It's funny you mention freedompop. I have 2 phones on freedompop and a WiFi thethering device. My nexus 5 also has tethering. It really depends on your area, but for me I get about 30 ping more than with my homes cable connection. The ping is steady about 90% of the time, but sometimes i could have some massive random 400 ping spikes (im usually only a couple bars of service).

Freedompop had a promotion recently where I upgraded my 2 phones to 2.5GB of 4G LTE data 100% free every month. But its on the sprint network, and again I don't get the best coverage in my area, but I've used it many times for when my Charter internet goes out which is about once every month or two.

I think for events like this though if you have a friend or family member that can loan you their phone with 4G LTE (good reception) and tethering it might be a good backup option.

Oh and just for the record TF2 uses about 100MB of data per hour, so thats plenty to use every now and then. I've played probably 10-20 hours over the last couple years of TF2 through my phone when the internet was down lol

Third-party scrim servers not run by any team? Server logs always have that "Playername <STEAM_ID> connected, IP x.x.x.x" line and that seems a really likely method for someone to find everyone's info.

VPN for community sites and stream links? If not assigned a permanent IP from ISP, release and renew DHCP lease before important games and don't connect to anything else.

from b4nny on twitter: ESEA admins ruled that the entire series has to be replayed from 0-0. Probably the fairest ruling. Fresh start. No more BS hopefully.

I know some people may have been against the fact Buick and I acknowledged the person that caused all of this tonight, because in the end that's what they want, but the reasoning behind it was sound in my opinion.

At that point, everyone knew what was going on, and why it was happening. It could no longer be played off as simple internet issues. So, we thought it would be best to address it considering there were 2,000+ people watching. As I said on stream, I'm sure for many of those people it was their first time experiencing competitive TF2. I believe it was more important to let those people know that yes, some twat is ruining the match this evening, but it's not typical of TF2, and it really is a great game, here's how to get involved, etc etc.
