I don't know what she's going on about with "her culture". The shitty truth is that the vast majority of indigenous Africans that were brought to America didn't/couldn't bring their culture. To illustrate, slaves were taken from all different kinds of peoples and places, all of which had their respective customs. So the culture/religion/customs that Africans may have had was lost. Other peoples (Germans/Chinese/Arabians/etc.) who did emigrate to America did so willingly and were able to bring their culture with them. That's why you really see a lack of long-standing tradition with African-Americans today.

This piece in particular encapsulates the idea well. Alice Walker disliked the trend of people "Identifying" as African because the cultural emphasis in most African cultures is your family name. Your named carried the spirit of you ancestors and these people were just changing their names to sound more "culturally appropriate"

It's a shame that so many people in the social justice movement are caught up in non-problems like this and not using their often underestimated influence to combat real, tangible issues. Pretty much every university and even many high schools have feminist/social justice clubs that could focus on issues such as homophobia and sexism (against both men and women) or even issues like police brutality, but instead the attention goes towards people who mean no harm. The problem with these "I'm a good person" clubs is that they tend to attract people that care more about appearing like they're a better person more than they care about doing whats actually right. This is what leads to people going for the easy targets like this guy instead of actually making a difference. It's much easier to falsely paint someone else with bad intentions and step on them to get to the moral high ground than it is to rise above what's truly wrong.

semi-related - recently a 19 year old blm supporter at a trump rally argues with a guy, tries to falsely accuse him of touching her breasts and punches him, then the girl gets pepper sprayed by a third party. the media is trying to spin her as the victim by lying about her age (they say she's 15 when police confirm she's actually 19) and saying she was sexually assaulted.

Ok, so as the thread kinda derailed already: Can we stop using the term "social justice movement" or whatever, and just call idiots idiots? Let's not devalue something that should actually be important to everybody (the fair and just relation between the individual and society) by structural application of negative connotations. Same with feminism etc.

Also, can we stop confusing individuals with arbitrarily defined imaginary groups of people? It's not necessary to extrapolate every individual occurence to broad generalities.

It never ends. Apparently a paper touching her jacket chest area twice by someones hand gestures = sexual assault and warrants a punch in the face. Proof once again that the majority of Trump's supporters are not the aggressors, and idiots that come to protest are the ones that get out of hand. The pepper spray was well deserved, and quickly neutralized the situation and may have prevented further punches from being thrown.

This gross exaggeration of her claiming to have been groped, and had her breasts touched reminds me of the recent reporter case involving Michelle Fields, who continued to follow Donald Trump after the press session was over. After being verbally warned twice, she continued to follow and Trumps Press secretary pushed her away. She then claimed she was assaulted and that he tried to throw her to the ground. She is even perusing legal action against him and has already served him a court date for this nonsense. I hope she is counter sued for that nonsense. Here is a clip about that case.
