This explains so much...

The majority of healthcare in the UK is free, but dentalcare isn't. Examinations cost ~£20 with prices for treatment varying up to about £220. As such, people in the UK don't generally go in for cosmetic dentistry and will only go to the dentist if there's something wrong/for a routine checkup.

Honestly dental care in the UK is really cheap considering everything. I think it might cost a bit more in England but living in Scotland I have never had to pay for dental care once. If you are under 18 you get everything free and there are many other ways that you can get everything for free as well. Examinations are free to everyone, simple extractions are like £7, fillings are £7 or £18 depending on what type of filling it is. Only things that are really pricey are root canals (£40) or complete upper and lower dentures (£150). I don't know how much dental care costs in the USA but considering how we get pretty much free healthcare for everything else, I think it's quite reasonable.

sheepy_dogs_handI don't know how much dental care costs in the USA.

just for fun (and a bit of perspective), I once spent an entire $2000 trust fund to get a single root canal because I was uninsured

Yeah, I paid $1900 for my wisdom teeth out before I got insurance. Same price for three cavities filled. £220 seems a dream.

On this topic, my friend likes to say, "You have no idea how much money is in my mouth..."

Zesty-protoIs dental care like really expensive or something in the uk? Just go to a dentist. The majority of healthcare in the UK is free, but dentalcare isn't. I deal with people with insurance every day. Even people with good insurance can pay 500 bucks for a crown. Average is closer to 800ish. That's just 1 procedure. Dentures without insurance are 5k, a single implant crown is about 5k a tooth! That's not getting into braces or anything that would have to deal with gum or major oral surgery. 220 would be super cheap...
