Rhettrocould you make pugs selections seperate for open im and invite so that everyone can get better

rhettro brings up a good point here. it's not simply the lack of servers, but rather the absolute waste of time. it's a great system, but the players are the problem. i'd really REALLY recommend a separate picking pool give "them" their own pw protected area so they can just play with themselves.

Add me if you want the pugme IP bans (I don't think there is many, but bullets should be there) or any advice from what I learned. Looks like what I wanted to do with pugme before giving up on it.

Also please don't use material design, no one deserves something so shit on a desktop web app. I spent a lot of time making sure things fit on the screen on every reasonable resolution, try not to make that a downgrade.

PS hope you finish this before middle of next month so I don't have to lose another $20 renewing the pugme domain.

Good luck

if you're going to create another pug channel, don't divide it by division, create a second pug channel where you have to be approved by a moderator (preferably one who knows people in mid-high im/invite) like in eu.tf2pug.me when that was a thing

How against a TF2mix type system would people be? Allow for captain games, and also allow fully randomized games like TF2mix had. I think captain games are better overall, but sometimes it is nice to just be able to get a game played because people are apprehensive towards captaining.

I'd say don't do every other game like TF2mix had, but perhaps another checkbox where you consent to a randomized team if you can't get a pug going otherwise. The problem with TF2mix was that it could make some horribly unbalanced teams, but if the player rating works here that could really help to fight that.

But, idk, maybe that isn't something the community at large would like.

EDIT: Saw there are plans for a matchmaking system in the chat, that could work too.

The site is built with Polymer 1.0, which guarantees support for the latest version of each browser. Unfortunately, if you're not using the latest version, there's not really anything we can do to fix your browser not working or make sure it keeps working if it's working right now.

Outside of that, we've been making a lot of visual changes. Be sure to keep giving us feedback on those.

As for the idea of splitting, at the moment we don't have anything really planned outside of somehow getting more capacity so several different levels of games can happen simultaneously. If the conditions were right in the future, we'd definitely be interested in creating an invite system for top players similar to FPL for CS:GO.

We are up to 4 servers now, and I upgraded my mumble so it can handle the extra people. 3 are in Chicago, and 1 is west coast. I might bring on a 5th if there is still a backlog of people. Thanks everyone for being patient while we work through issues.

Dang rip tf2pug.me

Can you add a feature like in #tf2mix where it guarantees fatkids to get picked eventually? Or possibly a high level feature where you must get invited to play? I've seen people go all day without ever being picked in pugs.

Another amazing day with almost 50 games (and the night's not over yet)! We're still looking to make what improvements we can. Feedback, as always, is greatly appreciated and welcomed.

The site has proven a bit unstable right now due to all of the traffic, which is overwhelming both the master server and the limited game servers we have (related: thanks so much to those that have graciously lent us their servers so far). We are still looking to expand so that we'll have the capacity to handle so many players.

We'll probably keep the site in alpha until at least the beginning of February so that we can improve it as much as possible and set the system properly with the configuration that it will use for release. This means, of course, that ratings will be reset between the alpha and beta site, but ratings in beta should be carried into full release.

It's kinda dicky sounding but tf2pug.me was originally meant to be a pugna replacement where people didn't really care who got fat kidded or not and usually chose for the best teams possible. Afaik PugChamp is basically a spiritual replacement for pugme, whether or not they are trying to keep the pugna ideals in place is up to admins/devs.

The inviting idea is definitely cool, but idk if tf2 pugs have enough of a player base to support a "public" pug system and an invitation only pug system.

Now for a recommendation. I don't like the current substitution system too much and I know a couple others have expressed the same thing. The idea behind ELO matching to get a sub of equivalent skill level is cool, but hasn't worked out too well. The captain should be able to choose from the list of people who apply to be a sub in the game. No other pug system, in-house or automated, forces "random" substitutes.

Of course the ELO matching hasn't worked out, there's a tiny sample size. In the future I would expect it to work better than "first come first served" for subs, or even the captain just picking the best person who applies.

this

pugna/pugme has always been sort of the higher level of pugs (obviously only falling short to invite pugs which are a closed group anyways) and captains will always pick the best players available, been this way as long as i can remember. if anything that should serve as an urge to get better and recognized to get picked more frequently.

the alternatives being newbie mixes / power pugs / lobbies / and lastly the fatkid pugs which happen quite frequently tbh.

It's times like this though that are really frustrating.

You have 12+ people on but no one will captain so no one plays. It's understandable why no one captains, but it's still really annoying. I liked the old IRC system because games were still played even if people refused to captain. Sometimes the games sucked, but I felt like it was better than not playing at all.

Newbie mixes/lobbies aren't a good alternative. Lobbies are a horrible experience and newbie mixes happens once a week? Also I doubt there are many people in pug.champ that should play in Newbie mixes because it's meant for people who are actually new to the game and there's no need to go stomp them there. Power PUGs and other inhouse groups are good, but inconsistent and you can't hop in whenever you feel like.

Why do you have 3 chicagos and a west coast server, be logical here get dallas and chicago only as well a new server provider. Idk if its because there are a lot of people playing on them at once or what but last night they would freeze for about 5 seconds every 7-10 minutes

If you're having server issues, I apologize, but there's really not much we can do about them at the moment. We are borrowing servers from gracious individuals for the purposes of alpha testing, and still haven't finalized where our servers are coming from for beta and beyond.

We have been lucky enough to have been given servers that we can use this week. All the servers except one are with nfo (the other is a tragic server). We will have more reliable servers sometime in the future. I am paying out of pocket for a couple of the servers, hosting and mumble so I can't really afford to be buying any more servers. If you have a high quality server that you would like to donate to us, by all means do. The servers that were having performance issues was most likely on my vps, which has been experiencing some issues recently the past couple of weeks. We are also using this initial testing period to test out providers location so we can have the best possible servers so we thank people for being patient with the couple of issues that we have had.

Also, thanks to kevinispwn for giving us our 5th server last night!

edit: tsc ninja'd it.

one of those chi servers is the best server I have ever played on. I get 20 lower ping to that server than any chi server I normally play on

still not sure how to feel about the fatkid situation. I don't think there are enough players to make a reliably active invitational pug system(and there are obvious issues with that). Ideally, the pugs would pick fast enough that if there are 36 players added, 3 pugs will happen all at different skill levels. but I don't know how viable that is in practice....

My idea for the sub system is for the captain to have the ability to pick who of the subs gets to join. not sure if that can be abused, but that would have saved every pug I played in that needed a sub

You have 12+ people on but no one will captain so no one plays. It's understandable why no one captains, but it's still really annoying.

Is there anyway your ELO can be placed against your name or something? Maybe more people would be willing to captain if they could see the numbers on who are the better players more easily, even though they don't necessarily recognize the names. I mean you can go to everybody's profile individually but nobody is going to do that. It's not much of a problem when late night IM/Invite pugs happen, but it seems like it happens earlier in the day.

imo if a small tweak isn't made regarding recognizing the skill level of players added then we'll continue to get moments where plenty of people are added but nobody knows enough people to be comfortable to captain; either that or some bold soul says fuck it and drafts strangers into a lopsided team that ends in a 12 minute roll.
