#tf2center pull out of DreamHack Winter

November 19, 2015

#tf2center, a modern reformation of the legendary Epsilon eSports, were booked to participate in the DreamHack Winter Invitational, the first such tournament at DreamHack in recent history. The tournament promised to be an exciting showdown between them and other regional teams, and also a peek at whether the former world champions were still able to claim the title of being Europe's best.

Despite committing to the tournament, though, #tf2center have had their fair share of issues actually getting there, especially when they lost their veteran medic KnOxXx and were faced with difficulties getting to the tournament. However, they appeared poised to attend after being sponsored by TF2Center.

Recent events have left them in the lurch again, however. Their scout schocky recently found he was unable to go, leaving them searching for a replacement. The team also planned to once again play with KnOxXx due to his replacement Bulle being unavailable, but the recent terrorist attacks in Paris made him unable to attend. They were planning to use beavern and kos, respectively, as standins for the two, but the final nail in the coffin was the loss of their roamer Mike, who had a last-minute scheduling conflict.

Due to this, the remaining members of the team have chosen to pull out of DreamHack Winter, feeling uncomfortable in having to play without half of their roster.

The team's demoman, numlocked, said the following about the situation:

Due to being unable to field a team that we're all happy with, we're unfortunately pulling out of DreamHack. The bad news kept coming: first Stefan couldn't come, then Bulle couldn't come, then KnOxXx couldn't come, and finally Mike couldn't come. All of them were unable to get the time off work.

Sorry to anyone wanting to see us compete at this event and those wanting to see a proper DreamHack tournament. We will be refunding everyone who has donated to us in the next couple of days.

The organizers for the DreamHack Winter Invitational are currently considering options given this last-minute withdrawal and will announce any changes soon.

To be honest even with matchmaking coming out, if future potential orgs would look to host an event and would look at this & ESEA (barely finding teams/teams dying DURING playoffs), they will probably not risk picking this game up anymore. A 3 team LAN without the top contender sounds sad after how much work people put into it.

Fundraiser to help the replacement team go to DreamHack and make sure that this event isn't a flop:

https://imraising.tv/u/dhw2015tf2

Please consider donating if you're gonna be watching and enjoying EU TF2! It's a big deal for us to have a place at DreamHack Winter, hope to have it run annually and this event is key.

lmao why in the world would they do that at this point? this community is great and all but when it comes down to crunch time we have shit like this happening. Why would valve want to inject money into the game when the top players can't even use the community's money properly?

I don't think it's fair that six dudes had to try and plan an international trip they didn't even necessarily want to make in a month, but this stuff happens all the time in the scene.

part of the issue was that they kept committing to people who weren't sure they could make it. this just delayed the inevitable scrambling for mercs that they could've done 4 weeks ago.

I wish I knew how much valve exactly made out of tf2, and the glowy pixel circus, year by year, compared to what they put in.

a company making a profit on its products? why I never!

the only way competitive tf2 sees financial support from valve is if the community proves that it will be profitable for them to do so. One way to prove that competitive tf2 will not be profitable is to have top teams withdraw from major events on short notice.

Yeah of course they have to make a profit, that's why i'm curious on how profitable tf2 actually has been for them compared to the other big two games under valve (cs:go and dota 2).

I´ve misread this part of the article multiple times aswell. It seems as if the terror attacks are referred to here as a reason that KnoxXx can´t go not Bulle.

Hope you are fine Knoxxx ♥
