honestly, of all the popular maps valve could pretty up for matchmaking, just tossing out the last stage of dustbowl and making balance adjustments from there, it wouldn't be all that bad of a map

certainly a lot better than when every new mapmaker thinks they can "rebalance" 2fort

It's time to prepare our butts for no class limits and no weapon bans (if it happens). I am excited for it, but with a drastic change like this, there will be balance issues. I hope that Valve can keep up with what is broken/completely unused and balance the game accordingly. It would be awesome to see the game change every 6 months or so with big balance adjustments like the Gun Mettle Update.

On a side note, I'm expecting a lot from this update. Mainly because from Valve's perspective I don't see any point in them not going all-out. Even the pub community is getting tired of the cosmetic updates and if matchmaking is done right, it'll give every player something to play for. I think they are doing this because they want to attempt to add a third money making powerhouse to their roster, not to compete with a brand new triple-A title (that also seems like a very very different game).

Hellbentgames too broken to balance everything without class limits and weapon bans

weapon setups can be solved in a lot of ways, since if you look at weapons like the winger valve is clearly willing to redesign an entire concept if it works out. class limits are going to be required, but I feel like valve isn't going to take the 6s limits of "2 on some, 1 on everyone else" and will likely want a flat limit to apply to everyone, just for the sake of cleanliness, and idk how a 1-class-limit 6s would look like in the long term

it's going to be crap

it could be a miserable experience for the first few months, but that's not wholly a bad thing long-term. people have been telling TF2 players this for years, if you want to tell valve that all of these things are busted and broken, show them. some of the weapon bans in 6s are so outdated, you can't even get a clear answer as to why they're banned, much less an example, and should it be as bad as you presume, valve will be getting a lot of examples

and that's not my pessimism talking

if you have to say this in context of giving out opinions over pure speculation, then yes, it probably is your pessimism talking

If valve is willing to put a lot of time into balancing weapons matchmaking could possibly work with no weapon's white list. I don't think no class limits, which is what I expect valve to do, will ever work out. It will be a stalematey fuck-fest of multiple engineers and demos when holding last and simply won't work. Hopefully this isn't the route valve decides to take, but they don't exactly have the best track record as far as balance goes so I have my doubts.

All of you complaining about no weapon/class bans fail to realize that Valve isn't going to just take ESEA or UGC's configs and slap their name on it. They're focused on releasing a MM that, like others have said, will bridge the gap from everyday pubs, to much more serious play. ESEA and UGC will still exist, they will continue to run their configs, and Valve will run theirs. It's similar to how competitive in CS:GO works. CS:GO MM servers do not match the same server configs as ESEA, so I would expect Valve to follow a similar route with TF2.

perhaps require a premium TF2 account to play MM? I mean, it wouldn't stop all cheaters, but it would stop people from just making account after account.

I don't care that the config is going to be different from ESEA's. I care that the config is going to likely be terrible and thus no one is going to enjoy it, competitive players or pubbers. If it's not fun it isn't going to bring any new players into competitive.

there's already confirmation that you're going to require some form of pass to get into matchmaking

if you type in "OpenMatchmakingLobby ladder" in console, you'll often get an error telling you that you need a pass, but for some odd reason random users can get in fine

Valve has already stated (during the community visit) that they want to figure out the best obstacle for cheaters.. whether it be some sort of paid pass, amount of hours.. whatever. They want whichever one is best and allows mostly the nice people to play.

best one in my opinion would be:

must have 150 hours minimum and must have a premium steam and/or tf2 account

premium steam account means you have to purchase atleast one game or make one microtransaction

It's going to require some form of matchmaking pass, without a doubt. I don't say this from the "matchmaking beta pass" item currently in the schema, but rather from common sense. It's an easy way to restrict matchmaking to semi-serious players, to put a stop to hackers recreating accounts without pouring money into Valve's wallet, and to make some form of money from the update.

I wonder where all you guys are getting your valve intel from that allows you to have such confident predictions about a game mode of which nothing has been announced.

Worst case, you can still look forward to skillfully outplaying people with crit cola/candy cane wombo combos

mann up mode in MvM is currently disabled, and it looks like all valve MvM servers are down. pretty sure that valve has used mvm servers for other games before, but it has never been completely down like this.

no class limits doesn't seem like a big deal. nothing stops a csgo team from buying 5 negevs but nobody does that if they want to win, so i don't think people will be rushing to 6 heavies, and even if people do that, they will stay in the lower ranks. I don't think anybody browsing this forums will be in the silver equivalent of tf2 mm, so there's a good chance you will never see that.
