Just curious:

Do you plan on having this event as an annual thing or more frequently?

The reason I ask is that while MvM is not the most complicated thing in the world there is quite a bit more to it than just learning "the meta" for an hour. While I understand that a course in learning the metagame is probably the best introduction for new players trying to break into MvM...I don't think it lives up to the potential of what a "Master Class" in MvM could be. There is quite a lot to know and learn about how all of the upgrades actually compare to each other, mechanics, and other small things outside of just having good DM ability.

The reality is that MvM is plagued by the meta mentality, where players believe that it is the ONLY way to win a game. It really is populated by some very toxic players. I'd hate to see a "Masters Class" only really highlight the metagame. A class in how to properly play Pyro and Spy would be much more interesting...and it's more needed. Every 12 year old is quickly indoctrinated into the Meta when starting into MvM. "Do it this way...or get kicked"

All of that said, this project is pretty neat and I could see it morphing into something huge. I'm always supportive of anyone who makes content, especially in TF2 where you can't exactly rely on Valve for anything and most everything is done through the community.

This is currently planned as a one-off event. That may change depending on how well the event goes. We'll have the infrastructure in place already, so the only challenge will be organization (which a small group of people have been doing essentially as a full time job for this project for the past 2-3 weeks).

That said, TF2Stadium will continue doing similar projects we deem will benefit both the competitive community and the tf2 community as a whole.

First off, great event. Had a couple questions about the courses though.

How in-depth are the "class specific" courses going to be? I was thinking about signing up to the Scout and Sniper classes, but I was wondering exactly how basic is basic. Is it going to be around the level of "just stand on something tall so that people with explody guns can't play killing floor" or will it involve more in-depth explanation and examples of where to position yourself on certain maps when certain players on your team are playing in a certain way and the enemy team is running certain offclasses (like, say, load up a pov demo of clockwork pushing snakewater last and explain how and why his positioning is different when the enemy team is running Sniper, when his pocket is low, when his Scout partner is offclassing, when they're running kritz, etc - maybe even show the same situation but with different teammates, and show how he adapts his positioning to play off his teammates' playstyles)? As for Sniper, is it going to just cover basic sightlines on maps and super basic aiming tips? I mean, a huge part of Sniper is simply hitting shots, not much you can "teach" there.

In all the class specific courses, how are you exactly going to help people improve their DM? I guess "grind mge" is an acceptable answer for Soldier and Scout, but for all the other classes there's only so much you can do without actual experience. Unless you count Pyro players discovering that pressing m2 turns enemies into clay pigeons as improvement.

Will the courses be 6's-focused or HL-focused? It's pretty obvious that a large part of classes like Pyro or Engi is mainly going to be concerned with Highlander, but I was wondering about the standard 6's lineup and Sniper. Honestly speaking, I'd rather not spend an hour of my Saturday (no offense to people donating their weekend to teach) listening to people talk about a gamemode that I honestly think is slow, boring as hell and have no intention of playing seriously in the foreseeable future. It says it "briefly touches upon your roles" in both modes, but since some classes have pretty different roles in 6's and HL it's pretty obvious that there's going to have to be a focus on one or the other. After all, I doubt that anyone would be able to explain how to play 6's pocket for all the maps in rotation, 6's roamer for all the maps and then HL Solly for all the HL maps in rotation in an hour.

Will there be more slots for the maincalling course? Really want to take it but the limit is at 10 people, the waitlist shows that I'm not the only one that would appreciate additional slots heh

Last but not least, will Sideshow eat bull cock again for the EU gimmicks stream?

IDK about other people but I was planning on going over the installation/editting of Configs, VPKs (I won't go over editting these), Scripts etc. Thinking about teaching about how to make a script as well. (and what some of the commands mean though some of it is in all seriousness are an educated guess at best)
Not sure what omni want's to go over with HUDs considering I only know how to install them and edit hud crosshairs lol.

We're proud to announce our final "class" of the event. At 7:00 pm est, the "6v6 Pro Panel" will take place, featuring various top level players from both NA and EU. Students are expected to come with questions aimed at particular players or questions open towards anyone. There will be no premade content for this course, so any information you get will have to an answer to these questions.

With well over a hundred seasons of combined top-tier experience, the panel will include the following players

kaidus
Mike
kos
Silentes
clockwork
skeej
Dr. Phil
josh
clockwork
Josh
+ a few more

Course requirement: ESEA-IM or ETF2L High experience
To get the absolute best information we can from this panel, we are restricting those who can actually partake in the discussions to players with a relatively high skill level. We'll be checking sign up experience. Also, signing up isn't so much a reservation of a slot as it is a commitment to be there.

If you don’t meet the requirements, don’t worry! This and all other courses will be archived and uploaded to TF2Stadium’s youtube channel and made available to everyone. We will also be offering many classes with no skill requirements for anyone and everyone to sign up for. If you sign up for a course without meeting the stated requirements, you will be banned from any and all courses you’ve signed up for. You will also be barred from attending similar events in the future. Don’t do it!

Anyways, here's the link: http://classes.tf2stadium.com/classes/31/

Looking forward to Saturday!

We still have SIXTEEN student slots open for the 6v6 Pro Panel. This is a one time opportunity to pick at the minds of some incredible players, and I'd seriously recommend you take it up.

Since the MvM part is over, and i had time looking at it, i do have to make a small complaint.

The MvM section was more opinionated than informative. It mostly encourages inferior play styles and actually some false informations.

First, it was cool that some higher community does something for MvM. Some informations were nice and well explained, but it gets outweighed by bad information and opinions.

Picking a famous Streamer/Youtuber/Player/Trader wasn't the smartest idea. He may be known and praised and what else, but the quality of his MvM Master of Classes was just sufficient enough to please only the clueless players. You shouldn't pick someone because he is famous and sometimes plays MvM.

The argument "He has tours!" doesn't work. Tours are simply not a reflection of skill. Two Cities is just a grind. Expert with a premade team as well. And you can reset your tours with 2 clicks too.
The argument "Fastest MvM missions in the world" isn't pulling it either. If there is nobody else doing it, whats the point? I can too say: "I won 3 races in a row" but being the only driver on the racetrack.

It was just a blow into my gut after i saw the stream. I cringed many times, and i am not the only one.

Are there actually going to be more of the MvM Master of Classes? Or was it a "one time" thing.
Because if theres another, please search for people that have more knowledge about the game mode itself.
The MvM Subforum in the official discussion area actually has a good amount of people that are experienced in the game.

Yeah, this. You also need to take mvm suggestions with a grain of salt. Consider that mann up is a paid game mode and doing the quickest, easiest option is the least infuriating.

That, and you mention clueless players. Wasn't that the point? If you know enough about mvm to play it, what are you doing watching a stream about it? Especially seeing as you're opinionated enough to make such a dickhead post about a game mode that ceejaey doesn't "sometimes" play, but actually sinks a lot of time into. You've clearly put the same amount of time in, right?

I play mvm with ceejaey and co. a fair bit, and most of the time we barely follow the meta. 3 bison soldiers and no medic doesn't sound like meta to me; yet we do it regularly.

Again; it was for clueless players. This was probably really useful for them. As you said, some bits were informative to you. The entire thing doesn't have to be.

For people always going with friends, this may not matter, but going with 5 randoms its just going to be annoying. Having a game with people insulting and complaining because something doesn't matches the norm or the Master of classes stream said is infuriating.

The so called norm "Meta" isn't even the easiest and quickest way to play. The Meta exists because the medic was buffed. There was no thought about class setup and utilities. Just because medic buff.
I did watch the stream because i want to know what will happen if something like MvM gets a bit promoted by the community, which i probably regret the next year over.

I do play MvM a lot too, more than PvP, currently in progress making a MvM map, tracking down bugs with the small community i am part of that plague the Gamemode. That community also creates custom content for MvM.

I do not care a single bit if you "follow the meta". The argumentation "3 bison soldiers and no medic" isnt really impressing me. Having whole different setups in the game is routine for me.

If you want to make a promotion of MvM in such ways, simply do it right.

Go with the basics of MvM, and simply forgot and don't orientate on the Meta.
