I know this is an odd place to be posting this, but thought might as well look, I mean, not everyone that plays tf2 is a no-life :)

So When I play legit 6v6 volleyball irl, I can jump server, block, dig, etc REALLY well, but spiking is like holding me back from being a good volleyball player. When I go up for a spike, I have this issue of timing it wrong so that the ball ends up above my arms, instead of in front of my shoulder. I believe I just don't know when to initiate my approach, as I also have trouble converting forward momentum/speed into a vertical jump. Same story with 10's. Any tips? :(

Any advice or things I can do to improve my vertical jump would also be appreciated.

Bring the Winger with you to improve vertical jump. Just don't let anyone see it or you will be on CNN for threatening to shoot up something

Jack off vigorously to improve your cardiovascular health. You'll see an improvement in your game tenfold.

I'm not a volleyball player but leg strengthing excerises are definitely going to help you with the vertical jumps as well as converting your momentum. There are many body weight exercises that you can do that really strengthen your leg muscles, the one that sticks out the most in my memory were the wall sits we used to do for lacrosse. My schools lacrosse teams were pretty big and there wasn't enough room in the weight room for both varsity and jv at the same time, so my 9th and 10th grade fall was spent doing body weight excerises in the wrestling room. Our coach made us do 3x 3 minute wall sits after building up to it, and it was absolute hell and my kneecaps wanted to explode everyday after workout, but those combined with some calf raises/jump roping/squats gave me the legs of Adonis himself and drastically increased my athletic performance. I'm sure there are some workouts specifically for jump height and the kind of leg strength you want out there on the internet, search around and find one. And for the volleyball specific questions, ask your coach to explain to you what and how you're supposed to approach and the mindset and such you should have while playing,

My dude at the gym does this...He played college basketball and did this for increasing his vertical and jumping distance/ general explosion
it's plyometrics btw
Squat jumps are killer - start on like week 3-4 if you're pretty fit

Honestly the best thing to do is practice. Timing kinda depends on your setter as well but usually I used to start my run as the setter was getting the ball. Good luck :)

i've been training my legs since age 6 and what i did for a few years to help me jump higher and farther is by doing dynamic leg exercises such as squat jumps or burpees

even though you have the right idea about wall sits strengthening the legs, it wouldnt compare to what stevie does since hes always going to be moving his legs. wall sits are just too static

Practicing your approach would probably benefit you the most. Having a solid timing on your (2,3,4) step approach will allow you to focus on the set and the position of the ball relative to the net.

Working legs will only help you with your vertical, I've found most success with box jumps and switching cardio to cycling.

During the hit, I've found using intense focus sort of like clockwork's idea to aiming practice to improve placement in hits helping to find a rhythm. If anything, playing and getting more touches will gradually help you with the timing you will become more comfortable with the hitting process as a whole.

Good luck and remember to have fun while improving!

Plant a small tree and jump over it everyday and then as it grows you will gradually be able to jump higher and then one day you will be able to jump like 6 feet.

When I used to play basketball and volleyball, I made the mistake of working with heavy weights/squats exclusively. Volleyball is a sport that primarily uses fast twitch muscle fibers. These type of muscle fibers are used when you want to utilize all your strength for an extremely short period of time. So, this means that workouts like heavy squats really won't really benefit your vertical. Your best bet is to work on plyo exercises like box jumps, lateral barrier jumps, lateral hops, etc..

Its great to see volleyball stuff on tf.tv . Ive only been playing for a year but i can tell you that you need to work on your approach to spiking. I was taught a 3 step approach and honestly Its just a mattrer of building muscle memory because spiking isnt a natural movement and it'll take time to learn.

A really key part regarding timing as well is just gamesence that you should be able to build with training and just playing. However regarding transfer into vertical height, if you're not moving your arms correctly during your approach or if youre not planting your foot correctly just before you jump this could be something that you fix

If possible, Id say just get a buddy to set you after you've built muscle memory of you're approach and try and take it from there.

Good luck and hopefully this could be useful to you

That's the most endearing and genuine thing I've heard in ages. SeemsGood

just plant a bunch of trees on top of one another so they grow multiplicatively faster
