I find it hard to believe these nerds with 50+ hours played past 2 weeks and thousands of hours in TF2 can have sudden life events pop up all at the exact moment.

How to apologise, two different ways:
1) Be rude to people for rumors
2) Be nice to people, ask yourself and your teammates to apologise
You've choosen wrong way clock, blaze isn't doing it right either
We're here not to trashtalk froyo as you might see, we're here waiting for apologies.

taggLack of communication between the production crews and the players has been a longstanding issue in TF2 and this really needs to change.

This is a two way street.
The production crew needs top players to show good matches and get good viewership and the players need the production crew to gather support, get fans and get in the light of sponsors.
I've seen both sides of the issue after playing in invite for several season and after working with the production crew. There is a lack of communication on both sides and it needs to be addressed.

Speaking on the topic at hand.
Froyo couldn't make it, its not their fault. However they could have told the production crew earlier and let them know.
They could also offer an explanation of why they couldn't make it to the tournament for everyone to see.
The issue here isn't that they bailed, the issue is that everyone doesn't know why they didn't show up.
Hundreds of people were expecting you guys to be there, just let them know what happened yo.
If people wanna be mad that real life shit happens then let them be mad. Its better than not saying anything and letting people come up with reasons as to why you couldn't make it.

As for the production crew. There need to be stronger efforts to reach out to players.
We need a community manager that has every single invite player added, or have a chat group with every single invite player in it for easy communication or something.
This stuff has been going on for far too long. These two groups rely on each other, there needs to be stronger communication between them

I hear u man, but in my opinion it while yea some people are mad that Froyo couldn't even formally appologize or hop in the cast for a few minutes to explain, it is about them not making it. This was an EU tournament with prizes, the EU folks graciously accepted them to participate and compete for their prizes, they also went out of their way to help Froyo with dates and such and also for Froyo to come and promote their incomplete fundraiser. If I were them I would have thrown in a 4G mix team and still promote that fundraiser. I wonder how many people will not care for their donations now because they didn't even TRY!

blazethe insults directed towards us and the praising of b4nny, makes me feel great to contribute and be a part of this community.

Want to be treated like b4nny in this situation?
How about you start by not responding like a dumbass?

I'm pretty sure that most of everyone wants is
1. A Proper Explanation
2. A Sincere Apology

Have you ever gotten in trouble before? Because you don't get out of it by being a dick. We want you to put your hubris aside and give an apology to everybody. If your current stance with the community isn't enough to put your tail between your legs and walk over to say sorry, then I really question the common sense of some of you guys.

EDIT: b4nny apologized. gj.

Naw naw we didn't graciously accept them playing, I actively approached them and wanted them to play for the hype factor. And we didn't change the dates for froyo, they never said it was bad, but we changed the rules to allow for NY servers to be used. It wasn't like they should be glad for the opportunity to play, it's the same as Ascent - if they didn't wanna play and said beforehand then I don't mind, it's their decision.

megalinx16jacobjI honestly can't see how 5/6 froyo players just happened to have last minute conflicts or how a pug team wouldn't be better than a no-showPeople wanted froyotech to play against top european teams not b4nny plus 5 randoms at that point it wouldnt be froyo

We would be having a different conversation If it was b4nny plus 5. instead of all this thread, the thing peole would talk about is that, the tourney coulda been better , too bad 4G couldn't bring a full roster, well at least they tried and made an effort to send some players, just like other made an effort to organize the event!!!!!!

deetrYou"Yo how dare these rude gamers prioritize their actual lives over winning a mouse pad and like $20"

guys smh

The real issue is that hundreds of people were waiting for this event and a bunch of other teams moved their rosters and play times around just to be able to play with froyo and then froyo just doesn't show with no notice and doesn't really seem to care at all. b4nny appeared to have not even known that his team wasn't showing and my interpretation of clock's posts is that he thinks that he is better than everybody else and that we should fuck off for expecting him to make time for us (he makes time when he can but we can get stuffed if we think that we deserve him to show when he says he will).

I do agree that clocks response to this was a bit overwhelming, but I can definitely see where he's coming from. Should members of froyo have made sure that other commitments didn't prevent them from attending the tournament? Of course! But acting like their oversights translate to not giving a shit is just inconsiderate. For example, I know for a fact that Duwatna couldn't make the match because he had to attend to his job. People are acting like froyo did the untenable, while in actuality (at least from my understanding) they just failed to keep their schedules in check. Not everyone has the luxury of an empty schedule

blazeApologies, I can't fit all of this on to 1 post.
kosI really doubt any of them give a shit. If you can't get 6 that day for whatever reason then that's fine. But if you gave a shit about the tournament and how outsiders perceive tf2 in general then you would determine whether or not you could play early (i.e. not the night before), prepare for the tournament or contact the organisers so that you don't just no show and make the tourney look like a complete fucking joke. This coupled with their reluctance to play showmatches for a fundraiser that would give them money for a free holiday (as well as hyping up i55) just makes froyotech come across as arrogant dickheads.
Again, really dude? You know NOTHING on any of these situations, yet somehow you feel the need to post and we're the bad guys? Clockwork reached out to kaidus to set up a showmatch with them and he messaged clockwork back telling him he forgot to talk to his team. Thats where we're at dude. What do you want from us? Clearly OTHER people, everyone included here, makes mistakes. Yes, I can't wait for my free holiday where the Canadian dollar is $0.49 there and I'm going to be fucking broke. Great holiday. Thanks again for all your kind words.
kosMaybe I don't have the whole picture, but this is how it comes across to me.

SideshowCondoMWhat a fucking joke.
Not a single team was playing with its full roster so the cup could be played when Froyo could play and then froyo just fuck off and don't even show up. And not just froyo fucking off but the fact that no results can be drawn from this cup as it was literally just mixes playing other mixes, massive delays and practically half of the scheduled games actually got played. Really REALLY needs better organizing.
Think about how all that looks to zowie when they decide to sponsor a tournament for our scene - and valve, who mentioned the tournament on their site which gathered a shitton of views.

It just simply makes the tf2 competitive scene look like a fucking joke which to be fair, today, it was.

NOTHING to do with the organisation that everyone was playing with mixes.

Teams are offered a $500 tournament. 10 teams are approached, all given the dates a month in advance and asked to raise any issues. We change the date of the event to suit teams about 4 times before it is finalised a few weeks later.

If even with that amount of forewarning and liaising with the organiser there are no teams without 2 ringers then it's just a consequence of the teams not planning well enough or people genuinely being too busy to commit time to TF2. It's not on me to make sure you're not using mix teams you fucknuggets! I gave you long enough to plan ahead and choose subs, along with incentive to do it.That is nothing to do with the organisation (which was bad re: delays and pretty much nothing else since david is a boss and covered for me perfectly).

I have to disagree with a lot of this to be honest. Maybe other teams had a different experience, but we were never contacted regarding a finalised date and time. I had a vague idea because I discussed it with you initially, but it wasn't till I stumbled upon the dates elsewhere that I learned they were finalised. I even said at the time that it would be much better to stick to a series of weeknights as getting an entire weekend free two weeks before LAN would be quite tough, considering anyone who works already had to get a weekend off in the same time period.

As for the times, they were not made clear to the teams until the official announcement that was put out 10 days before the event. The bulk of people missing today were absent because of unavoidable commitments, mainly work, which cannot be rearranged with 10 days notice for most people and would not have been rearranged for something that was not confirmed or finalized. Hafficool being absent from the final group A game was caused by it being delayed so much by a ddos, as well as other teams being late (and possibly an escaped chicken)

Furthermore, two of the teams had their Saturday schedule changed entirely when their groups were switched with a few days notice for some nonsensical reason. I don't know if this particularly affected the roster Lego showed up with, but with all this combined, it seems kind of ridiculous to say it couldn't be better organised in terms of schedule and communication with teams.

last note: This is more of a suggestion than critique, but I think it would be a lot better to create a document/email that is sent to all invited teams and provides full details of the tournament. Word-of-mouth is very iffy even when it's teams discussing amongst themselves. It might be almost a week or more after you casually tell me the proposed dates before I'm with my team on mumble, and then when I relay that information they are required to go away and check their schedule, come back and double check the dates (they have nothing official to refer to), then the next time we are on mumble we forget to discuss it because we had a hectic game or something. I'm rambling at this point with vague examples, but you see what I mean I hope. Obviously, none of this is an organiser's fault, but it's a very obvious and preventable problem if there is something concrete to refer to.It's not normally an issue or excuse for regular competitions because they are public, meaning the dates and times have to be published way in advance. I can see why you delay announcing invite tournaments until the best moment from a marketing standpoint, but they should still be something official to refer to behind the scenes for those involved.

Also sorry for terrible grammar, dictating is aids.

I understand people's disappointment and agree it could have probably been handled better in this case.
What I don't understand is why people feel like top level players, i'm talking invite in general not just 4g/elevate, have an obligation to act a certain way or operate with a certain level of professionalism. These are literally just people who are good at the game, nothing more. They don't do this professionally. They don't "owe the community" anything more than anyone else who is a part of it. They're just like everyone else only they put in the effort to become really good at tf2. A lot of lower level players look at them as some sort of roll models and i guess that's expected but it's also not something they asked you to do. Shit, a good handful of them are teenagers or early twenties of fucking course they're gonna be flakey.
"Do froyotech care?" Maybe not as much as you do. Who said they have to? Remember that this game is literally a hobby for every single person who plays it.

In the future I think we're going to use a slack in order to more effectively communicate between team leaders and organisers. Allows everyone to see what's going on and have an input on how it's run, when it's held, times and format etc.

If their team couldn't make it who gives a shit? TF2 was still played that day. I'd rather see no froyo then a froyo with 2 players + ringers. People are blowing this way out of proportion though I agree there could have been better communication between the players and organizers. i55 is coming up soon anyways that's where we'll see some solid 5 ping TF2 =)

I get why David is a bit annoyed, he put so much effort today streaming and organising, making it work to the best of his ability despite all the issues.

Still seems like an unnecessary Froyotech witch hunt - what is the lesson for today? Better communication between teams and production.

Think b4nny's post summed it up, I am not interested in a Froyotech witch hunt, more interested in i55 and to see everyone play. I mean we could go on about it and speculate or demand an apology, but it doesn't make a difference, what is done is done.

All the keyboard warriors here forget - real life is still a thing. This is a videogame. If b4nny and clock were lax with communication it's because they have lives outside this game.

Everyone here expecting an apology like self centered twats is the dumbest thing I've been seen on tf.tv.

Yes, froyo and the organizers didn't exactly have the best communication. But this is just a "teaser" tourney. We donated for them to travel across the world and play videogames, not play in an online cup with 150+ ping. B4mmy explained, it wa a communication error. Stop acting like they need to sacrifice everything to please you

When there are people investing thousands of dollars into something it becomes something that requires good communication and dedication. The "it's just a game calm down" argument no longer applies. Yes this isn't the actual event that the money was put into, but it involves all the same people and had a major sponsor relative to other TF2 tournaments and probably should have been taken more seriously. If I was somebody at Zowie I would be deeply considering dropping TF2 support in the future.

Stop acting like they need to sacrifice everything to please you[/quote]

Can whoever is actually concerned about FROYOTECH's morale their hand cuz from the way this conversation is going it seems u all r the ones with no morale decency. Sure it might hav been bad for them not to participate in the event but shit like that happens all the time. Even with big sporting events cancellations and delays are to be expected. Besides, none of u are actually personally affected by their decision to not play so quit whining about it and give them a break. Only if ur in the same position as them, become the top NA Tf2 team out there them u have the morale right to criticize them this harshly. Until then u hav no idea wat is going on backstage and therefore ur nonstop rambling about how terrible Froyo is is completely pointless.

While that's true that lots of money is being invested, the bandwagon of people literally shitting on froyo for a miscommunication and real life priorities is completely unnecessary.

And I know you don't need 2 posts my phone just fucked up for some reason

I understand froyo handled this poorly, but lets take a look at what started this whole thing off: Davidthewin. You handled this very immaturely. I know that this may have caused you some personal strife, rustled your jimmies a little bit, but This is the worst way to address a team for not showing for an event. Clearly at no point before you made this did you talk to anyone on froyo, because if you did you wouldn't say:

DavidTheWinThey were invited to GGG months ago and can't manage to pull together even the most aids mix like all the euros. Didn't even bother waking up, apart from b4nny (west coast, arguably fucked most by the timing) and duwatna (who was working). They said they would attend but only told us on the day that they wouldn't be attending.

That is misinformed and outright wrong. How can you say with such confidence that they slept in when you don't even bother asking any of them. I hope you realize you are ALMOST as aids as froyo for making this post based off no factual evidence.

If you're the KevisIsPwn of EU then Kevin is no longer pwn.

Why did everyone jump to conclusions as to why Froyotech didn't make it instead of waiting for them to say something about why they weren't able to make it? Heaven forbid we wait a day and see why they weren't able to play in a tourney where'd they'd get like 150+ ping if the servers were EU based (I think someone said they were moved to NY but I can't remember). I really wish I knew why people were so quick to hate :/ sometimes stuff happens. Miscommunication was the really only thing that happened this time, and it isn't any single person's fault. Makes me sad to see people so hateful for a simple mistake that happens a lot. ;-;

Dude David carried this event through and worked so hard on production, he deserves a lot more respect. He's just a bit frustrated it wasn't as great as we all wanted it to be as it was only 7 teams. I think he has earned the right to voice his opinion. Try showing a bit more respect to someone who has worked really hard to put on a good show for us today.

Props to duwatna for kindly explaining why he couldn't make it and not going off on people.
That is how the other members of froyo should have responded. (Excluding b4nny's post)
