Question for anyone really:

It was mentioned in the confirmation post that the future matchmaking system will most likely be similar to or based off of the matchmaking already implemented in Counter Strike: Global Offensive. As someone who has never played CS:GO, what is the best way to describe how their matchmaking system currently works, and how would the Counter Strike version be changed to accommodate for Team Fortress 2?

I've only played a small amount of counterstrike, but its basically like you select which maps to queue up for and you can invite up to 5 friends(obv going to be a different amount for tf2) to queue with you until a match is found. Different maps have different wait times based on popularity obviously.

Queues don't usually take more than 45 seconds for me in the active duty map group.

Also i can't tell you how it would change for tf2 because i have no idea. you'll just have to wait about 30 minutes for fc

I'm east coast and with all of active duty except D2 + nuke it usually takes about 2 mins

People are often stating that the current competitive lineup is the best possible team composition simply because it's what we play with now, and that because of this the higher levels of matchmaking will naturally move towards it regardless of class restrictions.

Before I ask my questions, I would like to say why I think this isn't true: why do we have class restrictions? And what about the weapon bans we have?
Picture this: GRU heavy gets whips to mid, where he is healed by both quickfix and uber medics. Does this not seem like a very powerful strategy that would be extremely viable if currently allowed? Other OP possibilities include multiple demos (i <3 stalemates) and a team full of minisentries (oh god plz no).

If we acknowledge that some classes (often in conjugation with some weapons don't need balancing, e.g. disciplinary action, reserve shooter IMO, GRU) will be OP, does people still think that MM will, at a high level, include similar meta to our competitive scene? Do we need some class restriction to make it less absurd? Or will these new strats be a refreshing change to the meta? (Dota can deal with it; why is the whole TF2 community always so upset >.<)

I just worry that any form of official competitive matchmaking added to TF2 might end up being a glorified TF2Lobby/Center. So, I guess, if I had one question to ask the team (given they understand how counter-intuitive lobby/center became), it would be how they plan on making it that much better than the already existing alternatives.

Honestly, though, I don't know if this matchmaking means "get X amount of players together and search for a group of the same amount of people in order to have a competitive game" or something akin to lobby/center.

how do u even mean that as anything other than "what are the benefits of an INGAME MM service"?

like it could be half as functional, or even a third the functionality of TF2c and still be amazing just because its on the main menu. being on the main menu makes it better than all the other alternatives by default. The alternatives now have to be better than the default system to actually be worthwhile.

My best guess is that there will be, similar to tf2center lobbies if the server owner doesn't have a whitelist, some sort of "honor system" where people who are actually good at the game actively decide not to run cheese strats. Good players will do this because matchmaking is, like in CS:GO, not as serious as league play and supposedly good players can win vs pubbers without needing to resort to unfair unlocks.

There's also the answer of "Valve will rebalance unlocks based on data they get from matchmaking" but there are a lot of broken unlocks and we are all aware that Valve typically does not do its work in a timely manner.

I personally think this issue needs a better answer than that.
