Getting better at sniping

Ever since getting into competitive TF2, I've always wanted to be better at sniper, but I had never known how to get better. Does anyone have any tips at sniping better, such as positioning, movement, and time to go sniper?

I'm usually decent at most, being able to score a head shot or two, sometimes on the medic, but that is it and I usually fall to pieces after that.

Sniping is more of a add on to being a 6's player it shouldn't be the first thing you want to improve but for just general picks and stuff is all just reaction. Really the only thing you can do is pub sniper to get better but yet again shouldn't be the first thing to work on.

snipe in pubs and while doing so, only use your sniper rifle and always go for headshots. I've recently gotten pretty decent at sniping and just doing that helped a lot. Sniping in DM servers works too. There's really not much you can do besides practice : /

BubberkillPlay CS with the Scout, not even bullshitting you.

this is an awful idea

the movement in the two games is different, spawn times are longer, scope distances are different, you cant move and have perfectly accurate shots, and you're getting used the the speed of only one thing.

Once you feel you're comfortable with tracking in general, then go ahead and try it on sniper.

i asked powah and he said he played the game a lot

i asked clockwork and he said just fucking play the game and stop thinking about it

please don't snipe in dm, you ruin it for my team and the enemy team. just pub sniper a lot and you will eventually get good at it

as a top sniper in highlander i mainly just pub sniper a lot and i mostly play payload or koth. pubbing imo is basically the exact same as highlander since you're facing all the same classes.

i don't snipe in mge or dm since i don't really find it that helpful.

being good at sniper is really useful for 6v6 aswell for when you need to push or defend last on certain maps

there is no big secret to improving your dm aspect of the game whether its sniping or just tracking on scout, or predicting shots with projectiles. just keep practicing you will get a better feel for it and stop over thinking it

practice practice practice. even playing pubs helps, just not as much as pugs lobbies or matches, lobbies are pretty shit too though.

mge can help but only for like sniper vs sniper.

no way to get better at something without doing it. well not usually atleast.

Guide to getting good at:
Sniper: DM
Scout: DM
Soldier: DM
Demo: DM
Medic: PUG

Common Myths to avoid:
Playing Quake makes you a good Team Fortress 2 player
Playing CS makes you a good scout/sniper
Playing OSU makes you have tracking like Yz50, Clockwork, Ruwin, ect.

just play. idk if i'd suggest pub sniping since their movements are pretty bad, but it'll solidify some type of ability to snipe. a starting point, so to speak, which i'm sure you already have. just playing is the only real way to practice.

tr_walkway really helps your muscle memory. Try making them strafe, jump, etc and just do it for like an 30min - hour a day if you really want to improve. I started doing this a month ago and I improved a TON. It's pretty relaxing too, kinda like how people surf to chill, thats what I do and now I can be pretty good in HL Lobbies (if that says anything).

I agree with this. My favorite thing about Sniper is that it's the same wherever you go. Sniping a good player and sniping a bad player aren't much different.

My favorite part about pub sniping is learning to deal with other snipers. An F2P machina sniper watching a choke isn't hugely different than a good Sniper watching a choke. Payload is good for learning how aggressive you can get as well.

Bloodsire's video is really good too. He talks about how running a sniper affects the 6's meta, and how both teams need to adjust to compensate. I think he was eaten by a spider at the end though.

lynaDoes anyone have any tips at sniping better, such as positioning

Pay very close attention to where enemies can come from. Since your FOV is much smaller when you scope, and since you'll have a harder time killing anything that jumps on you, you should be far enough back that the enemies can only enter through an area covered by a tight cone emanating from your nose. For every entrance well-covered by teammates, you can move so that only the remaining chokes fit in your "cone." Not sure if I explained that well, make sense?
