Also, does it hurt to use one of these things to share the connection between a 144hz monitor and a regular 60hz one ? Having a hard time finding a female DVI-D cable since my GFX card only has 1 male. I can't use a signal converter because my card ( HD7850 ) doesn't like the conversion and generates some weird vertical lines in games.

This could be wrong, but I'd think that if it's splitting the signal two ways it's only capable of outputting 1080p 60hz to each monitor due to bandwidth limitations. Could be wrong though.

as long as its not broken, friend had a problem with one of those not actually displaying 120hz past a resolution of 900x500 or something. Test it if you can before buying it but 200 bucks is a good deal.

I'm trying to get a second hand 120hz monitor for around the 200 dollar mark
I get like 120fps but i can't get 144hz consistently
is it worth getting an older 120hz monitor rather than a 144hz because i can't really make use of it

I'd say that 144Hz is not that much better than 120Hz. You should be fine.

Took the bullet, bought the 144 hz. So now, should I use lightboost+120 hz or stick with the 144 hz? Hitscan seems ridiculously more easy with my tracking but my solly aim still feels a bit off since this monitor is bigger than my old one.

http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Series-XL2411Z-24-Inch-Monitor/dp/B00ITORITU you'd be hard pressed for much cheaper
2 used ones in Very Good condition through amazon for $237.

Best off I could find atm, unless you want an "acceptable" VG248QE which is $215 through amazon.

You should add the Asus PG278Q 144hz 1440p G-SYNC monitor to the OP. Although it's massively over priced due to the G-SYNC module reviews look promising.

Has anyone tried the Asus PG278Q yet? Please give feedback.

I played with lightboost for ~2 years and then switched to 144 and found that 144 was better.
Less of that "input lag" feeling.

Woke up this morning and one of my monitors is dead. I had the other one repaired a year ago and it cost a small fortune, not going that route again so I'm going to replace them. Is the ASUS VG248QE still my best bet? I briefly looked at the 'up and coming' models and I'm not really down with spending $700 on a monitor.

Also, will there be any substantially noticeable different in going from a 1920x1200 monitor to 1920x1080 (comments from anyone who has done so, or uses both, appreciated)?

wanting to buy this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-XL2411Z-24-inch-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00HZF2JWA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413302368&sr=8-1&keywords=XL2411Z

But i dont know which model to get? The one with 2 HDMI ports for £130 or the one with 2 HDMI, s-switch and DP.
But wtf is this DP shit? And tbh i dont care about the s-switch unless its necessary. I just want to play games at 144hz.
Either way, which monitor should i be aiming to get for gaming?

Anyone heard anything good/bad about this 144hz monitor from LG?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-119-LG&groupid=17&catid=1851

I have had the LG 120hz W2363D for about 3+ years now and it's been great so was looking at what LG are offering nowerdays.

Or am I just better getting a BenQ monitor instead?

Any help would be appreciated.

The most relevant info about the LG 24GM77 i could find was this post

http://www.overclock.net/t/1520849/lg-24gm77-vs-benq-xl2411z#post_23085539

It seems to be in direct competition with the BenQ XL2411Z. At that discounted price though the LG looks super tempting.

Are there any 32" true 120hz TVs on the market? For a variety of reasons I would really prefer something about 32" both because it gets used to play movies and as my main monitor for gaming. Everything I've found that claims to be 120hz is actually 60hz but with interpolation.

Thanks for the help.

Follow-up to my last post...

I found this TV: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I94IRC2&ie=UTF8

According to http://www.rtings.com/info/fake-refresh-rates-samsung-clear-motion-rate-vs-sony-motionflow-vs-lg-trumotion it actually has true 120hz. Can anyone confirm that this tv would actually function equivalently to a 120hz monitor?

Research indicates that the input lag is 42 ms, is that considered prohibitively bad for gaming?

Thanks for the help!

here's a chart that shows input lag for a bunch of different monitors: http://s15.postimg.org/ru8quqjez/laggy.png

42 ms is high, but probably playable. i'd make sure you'll be able to play games at 120hz with anti aliasing, cause 1080p at 32" means low dpi

How would I go about determining the second thing you mentioned? I'm not very experienced with this stuff. Thanks!

Personally I'd say 42 is a bit high, but it depends what you can be comfortable with

Anti-aliasing is an ingame setting (See this video). He's saying, try turning it on in game and make sure you still get a stable 120 fps. Without anti-aliasing the game may look bad on a 32 tv @ 1080p.

42ms seems ridiculously high. I might be retarded but aren't most 120hz monitors 1ms-3ms?

you're probably thinking of grey to grey response time, which is typically advertised as ~2ms. different thing than input lag, see the chart i posted earlier

Thanks, I will try that the next chance I get. Should I set anti-alias to 4x or 8x?

@dippidy: I agree that the input lag does seem high, but that being said I'm already playing on a 32" tv with really high input lag (haven't measured it but I'm pretty sure it's high because it's a fairly low end old tv). So my tolerance is pretty high for that sort of thing.

Thanks for all the help, everyone! I really appreciate it.

42ms is really low for a 120HZ tv as TVs typically have 200ms+ of input lag
its still high to play games on though, id say at least try and find a monitor from that image erkston posted first
