The thing that makes movies immersive is the ability to see from different perspectives and faces. Unless the P.O.V. is limited to ONLY action sequences, and traditional filming in developmental phases, this movie will ultimately get very boring after the first 15 minutes.

you make a movie based on the concept of "like a first person modern fps" and then you go in and include the tutorial level that nobody likes playing or wants to sit through

still probably gonna be box office gold though, if only for the same reason people keep watching transformers movies

boppetthis movie will ultimately get very boring after the first 15 minutes.

I was bored after the first 30 seconds.

Calling this "the world's first action POV film" is a gross overstatement considering the amount of "found footage" films that have been produced, ie. The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, though it could be argued that those are not "action" films. But semantics aside, it's hard to imagine this being even remotely interesting with a silent protagonist (and really, tennis shoes and jeans?) as there's no room for characterization or narrative progression without feeling forced. Also, "Hardcore"? really? No other titles came to mind? not even a good one?

Video games and movies are different forms of media. Though video games often incorporate cinematic elements, what sets them apart is that they are interactive, the ending is dependent on your input. If you dont move, the game wont end. Film on the other hand, at least Hollywood cinema, which Hardcore looks like it's trying to fit with, is a passive medium that guides the audience without their say in what happens. The Silent Hill movie managed to be all right because Silent Hill is a third-person video game with fixed cameras. Trying to incorporate FPS in a movie is going to end very badly, probably with a lot of people needing a barf bag and dramamine.

Only 'first person' movie I've really enjoyed was Enter the Void and that had no action. I think action and first-person just don't go together well in movies for a lot of people. While it doesn't personally give me headaches, I know cloverfield sucked for a lot of people. On top of that, the movie is more or less restricting itself to one perspective which only works when the movie is specifically about the character whose perspective it's from.

Can't see this being good.

This looks like watching an LP of a STALKER game with less exciting gunplay and none of the reasons why STALKER is so good.

Uh... Ok, I've seen better action sequences out of youtubers... It looks like they CGI'd in the muzzle flash a few times at least (but it may just be a camera perspective thing - or they used a digital camera).

What a catastrophe.

I enjoyed the trailer I guess, but I agree that an entire movie would probably be a bit boring. That said though, it reminded me a lot of a duo on youtube called CorridorDigital that makes short films heavily inspired by video games. For anyone who enjoyed this Hardcore trailer video you might find these guys entertaining. Some of their cooler videos in my opinion:

It's hard to capture any real emotion for a scene from a first person view. While it's not impossible, you're still better off doing anything that's trying to connect with the audience by doing it from a view point that captures a lot more than what a person's perspective can capture.

Let's not forget that this pseudo-"first person view" isn't really the best. Maybe, in the future, if we develop a more convenient, realistic first person perspective, it can work better. When I think of a first person perspective, I think of seeing something exactly how that person is seeing it. Not sort of how they're seeing it.

And why the hell would I want to watch action take place from someone elses's perspective anyway? It seems like the least called for theme for a first person film.

whats so special about action? enter the void had a better impact artistically and emotionally and that was entirely from a first person perspective. yea its impressive technically, but so are first person shooters and I reallllly don't see a point in recreating one as a live-action movie. that's like fucking watching a walkthrough of a game on youtube with no commentary, and to sit through an entire FILM of that would be stupid.

also, is that sharlto coley as the ww2 guy? he looks and sounds just like him, you can even hear a hint of that accent hes got

Holy shit so many negativity about this trailer.

I had fun watching the trailer, I thought it was pretty amazing despite the obvious flaws. The action sequences and all that stuff were great imo
