if you still have the original box your tower came in that is pretty ideal, loads of thick bubble wrap + tape so it stays secure on it and some packing peanuts too

In other news, my plans for a ride on sunday have fallen through again. I either need a ride to the greyhound station in philly at 730am, a ride to the amtrak at 8am, or a ride to bwi.

Also if anyone knows of a local cab service in the oaks area, that would be helpful.

yeah anyone else thats traveling with a tower should consider doing that as well. i don't mean to make anyone paranoid, but i remember someone that came to pax i believe took a flight and there tower ended up being dented to shit so loads of packing material should do the trick

honestly if i were travelling with my tower id put all my components/peripherals in a backpack with my monitor then attach 2 straps to my empty case and call it a bag and make it my carry on.

idk the legality of that but it seems legit.

As a suggestion, I'm told that taking all your components out of the tower and packing them separately is the absolutely safest thing to do. I'd be afraid of shit bending and going nuts, having video cards clanking around inside my case if I brought it by plane.

Has anyone ever traveled by train with a tower? Or planning to for GXL? I need to figure out the logistics of that.

My friend did that last time. Boston to Philly. He had no problems. He took his PC and monitor on as his carry on tho. He took extra early/late trains to and from so they wouldn't be full, which if they are they might not let you bring the PC on with you for space reasons. You never want to CHECK your tower or monitor tho. Keep them with you.

And as for flying with your PC... I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to bring that as carry on. Trickster flew with his PC to the Atlanta lanfest once, he packed it in a big suitcase and packed his clothes INSIDE the case, and packed pillows around the outside. He checked it, and it was fine, but I wouldn't risk it..

At GXL a few years ago my friend flew out from Arizona. He took apart his PC and packed the components in their original boxes and took them as his carry on. We rebuilt his PC in an extra case I had when he got here.

By train you should be fine, flying is risky.

Are monitors still good for carry on? Because isnt there a new thing for electronics that they have to be proven to work and have then turned on before entering security? Not sure if thats something that needs to be taken into account

id never put a case i wasnt willing to lose under the plane through tsa.

checking bags is also hella expensive, might wanna look into how much itd cost to 2 day ship it to yourself in pa as another potential option

Hey guys, sorry to say, but I don't think I'll be able to go. I just don't have the money for everything, unless someone wanted to split hotel costs with me, which I doubt will happen at this point.

Otherwise I'll just have to transfer my ticket to someone, as soon as I figure out how.

Bring warm clothes. Absolutely bring warm clothes. Last year the A/C was constantly set to freezing temps. It was painfully cold in there. Ask mouse, he wore a t-shirt + jeans, and experienced symptoms of hypothermia.

Seriously dude... I was shivering so bad trying to play lol. Also gotta remember my mouse pad this time so I dont have to use a shirt rofl.

Might as well bring a snowsuit and maybe some skis.
