This might seem like just an excuse for being bad, but it seems to be a legit problem for me. I tend to work most week days from 7 or 8 in the morning to 5 in the evening, so I usually get up in the morning around 6-6:30 AM. However, after working a full 8-9 hour day, when I come home in the evening, a lot of the time it seems to affect my ability to concentrate, specifically on playing tf2 well. I'm just too mentally/sometimes physically worn out to put in 100% of my effort and it seems to drastically show in how well I play. Anyways, does anyone have any tips about how to deal with this problem?

Are you tired at work? (as in, before you get home)
Are you opposed to caffeine? If not, try L-Theanine with it.
Are you opposed to naps? A 20-40 minute nap after you get back from work might do the trick.
Are you opposed to nicotine? Smoked, it's quite addictive, but in e-cig form (not sure about patches), it's not even close to as addictive, and it's quite the stimulant in low doses. Picks you up when you die from being tired, and you're much more capable the next life.

Also: I wouldn't fret if it's not in your capabilities. If you're tired from work, it's because you worked. That's the priority. Everyone should understand the tiredness, and that you just want to wind down by playing some TF2. I wouldn't fret too much!

I'll take a nap after a long, tiring day at work. 30 mins to an hr does wonders.

Around 6 years ago when I was at the top of my CS game, I used to purposely play when tired. The idea was that if I pushed myself to be the best when I was half asleep, then I'd be even better when I was wide awake. Stuff like that made me pretty good at CS back in the day. If the only time you have to play is when you're tired, maybe try to keep that in mind, may help motivate you to push all the harder.

That said, get some sleep when you need too.

Did you seriously just suggest that he starts smoking to get better at TF2? Remind me to never ask you for advice on anything ever.

I get the same thing, after 11:00 I start over extending, forgetting where my team is holding, stuff like that. Having a life and kids has really hurt my game but it's worth it.

The best way to wake up is a shower or wash your face and hands really well, enough to freshen you up too. Get a bit of exercise and stretching can also help.

Yeah I got the same issue sometimes, depends how much sleep I get and how tiresome the day is, why I try get matches on Sunday as you can perform better.

Eat 3 meals a day, eat dinner before you play, keeps energy levels up and exercise lightly - all helps and relax a bit - I'd say this game is more about mentality than being tired, relax the mind and then you can start to focus better in TF2 as the mind is less tired. That's my plan for tonight cos this nice 10 hour day has been horribly stressful.

Khaki I know exactly the problem you're facing. When I'm tired I lose focus, get irritable, and play terribly. When I was in school and even now, I kept my sleep and TF2 but gave up school/work. It's kind of up to you to decide what you want to give up. My friends used to say that there's school, friends, and sleep. Pick two of the three.

It's hard to have everything. You just have to prioritize and figure out what's most important to you. Sleep is hard to give up but it's doable too if you pass out on the weekends, but it's not exactly sustainable to give up sleep altogether.

i think faster and talk faster when i drink espresso/coffee. i mean i'm not saying use it as a substitute for sleep but i know that feel. my hours vary and some days i have to wake up at 6am after sleeping in til 10 the day prior, which is just shit. BUT, i don't like doing jack shit after work so i grab some coffee on the way home or make a pot and it helps me meatshot. also i hear that coffee stays in your system for ~5 hours so if u can't get it in u by 5-6pm it's probably not valid and will just fuck ur sleep for the next day.

If you want to get the most energy from eating before you play, eat a nice balanced dinner/lunch w.e. 30 minutes before you play. It takes at least that long for the body to start gaining energy from it, as opposed to the initial lose of energy required to break down the food.

If you figure out a solution let me know. Problem that I've been facing for season after season. Really, the main reason I look forward to playing at lan is the good night's sleep I get the night before. Typically i play much better on Monday but as the week goes on and the lack of sleep compounds, my performance definitely dwindles.

When I need to get up early for work due to some special project (I work landscaping) I actually find eating an apple wakes me up much quicker than coffee (I used to just drink coffee), and I don't crash and it's great. Not sure about keeping you up but it wouldn't hurt.
