you sound pretty entitled dude

also, the way you overreact to all this does make it look like you are addicted. If you want your parents to take you seriously, stop throwing tantrums.

school is the most important thing rn

(also, not a single smart person i know walks around declaring themselves smart)

I agree that he thinks games are important but I think the entitled part comes from his parents not respecting him and his current status in school. He could be spewing shit to make himself sound smarter, but all I know is that he has told us that he does well in school. I have had some achievements like making the honor roll and whatnot and my parents sometimes don't even recognize that. Or when our marching band/concert band in school wins trophies for something my parents don't recognize that. I've been playing percussion for 8 years and my parents don't seem to recognize that. I don't think they are on the same level of respect where Ferskin acknowledges his dads' efforts to make him a better person nor does his father realize that he is being really harsh on Ferskin and not being fair.

I'd just like to point out that some Asian parents are harsh and illogical. Some people might not realize the fact that these people generally don't think reasonably. And there are stereotypes about them for that reason. For example, the "Son, why you no doctor?" or "A-?!?! Why no A+?!?! I disown you." is not unreasonably far off. My parents are first generation immigrants and they still follow the mindset of Vietnamese people (harsher punishments and ways of teaching). Ferskin is most likely in the same boat; father thinks he is addicted to the computer without talking to his son why; sister annoys him without punishment from parents; they jump right to harsh and change his computer password. He was probably angry when his sister turned the router off, the dad hears that it is over games and blames Ferskin for playing games in the first place.

Also, sorry about the bad advice, it was just what I think was the best course of action. Ignoring arguments and further bitterness is going to be better than mindless bickering. Nothing can get fixed if your parents and you keep arguing and don't talk about it.

You could try getting a third party involved and see if that helps. Maybe a family therapist or another family member.
EDIT: Well, he seems to be insulting people in the thread as well. He might just be an asshat...

Ferskinremedyhow are you one of the smartest people in your class if you're getting C's?I'm guessing you never heard of trying at the last weeks of school when you know you will get a good enough average at high school, good enough that if you fail you can a still pass and go to the next grade.FerskinfinnaThis is another issue of "oh I'm really smart I'm just lazy".

Smart people aren't lazy fucks.

well, it looks like you're not smart enough to try. the world doesn't give a fuck how smart you think you are. you just want to do good enough to go to the next grade? anyone can do that. do you want to go to a shitty community college and not have a fuckton of fun in college? you are 16 and you probably don't have or need a job. school is your ONLY responsibility in life at the moment. think about that for a second. you're not shit right now. and i'm not saying this to be mean.

think about what your dad is going through. he doesn't know how to help you understand the importance of school because of cultural differences. he didn't grow up with video games so he sees it solely as fucking around, which is basically what you're doing if you're not prioritizing school over tf2. he's coming home from a long day of work every night to see his son doing nothing productive and doesn't know how to help him because he probably went through the same thing with his dad (bad parenting is usually a cycle, especially in asian culture). just get your shit together. do it for yourself, not your dad.

having no stress is FUCKIN amazing.

the fck is this thread.

First of all, youre 16. You know nothing. The biggest struggle in life is to not miss the bus to high school in the morning and make sure you have money for lunch.

As a lazy smart person who skipped 70% of his college classes and managed to graduate with a bachelors in Computer/Electrical Engineering at Rutgers I can tell you you're an idiot for being disrespectful to your parents and thinking video games are going to get you anywhere.

I had a 3.8 GPA freshman year then ended sophomore year with a 2.3 (non comulative). The reason why my GPA went to shit was TF2. Granted, TF2 was actually fun back then and I'm one of those people who thinks hes smarter than everyone he talks to regardless of how intelligent they actually are, I don't get along with most people more or less cause I think they're idiots.

I got my graduation GPA up from a 2.5 cum to a 3.2 in 2 years so never count yourself out. You just gotta want it.

Referring to your dad as a 'faggot' isn't gonna get you anywhere than a future of shit and misfortune. Not sure of your financial status but if your parents are as shit as you seem to think you better focus on yourself and not your 60 hz 5 year old monitor.

This worlds fucking cold. Eat or be eaten. Get your grades up, pray you can afford college, and go. Don't come to tf.tv looking for sympathy from other nerds for your problems cause trust me, theres a whole lot of people who wish their life was as easy as yours right now.

TLDR: Youre an idiot, get over yourself, respect your parents, and quit bitching.

When I was a teenager in School I barely ever got to use the PC as it wasn't paid for by me, it's a privilege not a right. Be thankful your parents even take an interest in your education - This ain't like a real family issue, it's merely you are denied what you want for reasons you don't understand and your rationality is to post on a gaming forum to find a solution?

Compromise with your Dad, find a solution you both like such as "if I do all the work can I play my games" - seems fair and encourages you to stop slacking and do your work.

A high 70 in HS English is actually a poor mark if you're looking to attend a top 100 institution in the US. Your father has a right to be angry about that kind of performance.

All you need to do is drill through your HW and RL responsibilities first, and you'll begin to notice how 95% of parents will back away from you in your free time if you're doing well.

Really true, I have a deal with my parents that when I get home from school/baseball I can do whatever I want as long as my certain chores are done when needed and I keep above a 90 average and go to sleep by a reasonable time so just try and get your parents trust back and go from there.

Seconding the stuff about GPA. Luckily in High School, you've got 4 years and a dedicated faculty to work it out. Go make up grades in summer classes if you have to. I was getting low grades in classes left and right when I was your age, it wasn't until I was a Senior that I turned it around with a bit of effort and graduated with the rest of my class.

If your Dad is concerned about your grades dropping, he's doing his job as a parent, I believe he wants you to do well. He could just not care about you and let you slip, but he's not. If TF2 is getting in the way where it's consuming most of your time I'd at least go back up or something and take it a little easy to get yourself back on track.

If you actually do your homework and shit you can easily get As and Bs in high school while putting in minimal effort for studying outside of just doing assigned work and still having time for tons of video games. If you can't do that or are just too lazy to you obviously aren't as smart as you think you are. High school english is easy as fuck.

I remember when I was 16 and did the exact same thing you're doing. Suck it up and listen your parents, they only want the best for you. Trust me, you'll appreciate it later in life. I, like many in this thread, wish I could go back and listen to my parents to do better in school. TF2 is fun and that's what it's meant to be. Shouldn't be an excuse to be lazy, blow off school, and be disrespectful to your parents.

I don't remember saying tf2 was more important, all I'm asking is for advice in what to do, and the only reason I made this thread is mainly to know if I should just quit tf2 and focus on studies. So let's leave it at that and let this thread die now, I'm not going to bother reading anymore replies from you or anyone else so you can say what you want, just realize it's falling into deaf ears.
