Good Dm Scout settings

Atm, I really want to improve my dm and I always change my settings(Hud, xhair, sens, etc.) and I really want to stick to something for a decent chunk of time. So it would be appreciated if you could leave down suggested huds, sens, and xhairs. Basically anything that comp scouts would use. Most of you would say preference, but with me, I can't decide between one thing. Thanks in advance.

Better aim = better DM
Muscle Memory + Prediction = Better Aim
Muscle memory comes from playing for a long time with the same sens, prediction comes from playing in general. Just pick something and practice. HUD and crosshair don't even matter as long as you aren't using ggglygy's HUD because that is for soldiers not scouts.

Another thing you'll notice is that higher level scouts seem to move their mouse a lot less than most players do. I'm trying to adapt to this as well and it's been working well. Strafe into your shots rather than flinging your crosshair all over the place.

mimicking HUD, sens and xhair from others won't help you improve, specially sensitivity. But maybe you can tune yours, create a server and test your movements, try to do flicked 90/180 degrees movements, clockwise and counter-clockwise. That's how I sometimes check mine.

I suppose what John mentioned can be useful too. I think it's more about being calm though, than it is about not moving the mouse much. If you loosen up, you're going to aiming a lot smoother and not flicking all over the place.

I do strafe for shots during 1v1 encounters. But with my playstyle(Kind of like carnage's), I noticed that strafing isn't good when the other person can jump over you and stuff and that encounters with more than one person could result in my death because I'm not moving my mouse as much to aim at the second person.

if you're aiming with your own mouse as scout, you're most likely doing it wrong

almost 99% of scouts aim with their movement

no one can really help you improve your dm except yourself by simply playing the game.

it helps to have a good mind set though

I own a decent scout v scout and scout v demo mindset. But when it comes to soldiers, how would I approach that in an open/closed setting? I notice carnage sometimes jumps when fighting soldiers but others like Clockwork would jump around them a lot.

woah, i don't know where people are getting that good scouts don't use their mouse to aim. If you're aiming solely with your movement you're doing it wrong and you'll end up more predictable than anything else. There are some strafe tricks you can use but they shouldn't be your primary means of aiming. Most scouts that I know don't really use their movement too much except in scout v scout and even then it's not like they rely on it.

If you watch the top scouts they all have excellent mouse control and very good mouse aim (yz50, ruwin, clockwork).

Fighting soldiers is all about engaging when you have an advantage and refusing giving the advantage up, and not letting them engage with you otherwise. I know that playing as soldier, shutting down scouts tends to be about refusing to let them get a hold of anything on me, like positioning health etc, else I'm screwed. Soldier vs scout is similar to quake dueling, in an indirect sense, because whoever has the advantage will probably win out even if they make mistakes. Don't stalemate spam against a soldier if you don't have backup, because that's a form of engagement and they're likely to win. If you're forced into a disadvantageous encounter with a soldier, it's all about being as much of an asshole as possible, not matter what - depends entirely on their skillset.

Also, on another point, here's an example of why getting good at /mouse/ aim is important: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SctEKhiX5J8#t=3m21s
It /is/ carnage, but it's a good example that twitching is important; though prediction tracking also is. 100% mechanical aiming is bound to fail unless you have godlike reflexes and a hardware advantage.

dont jump alot you land alot more shots also charge them, realistically a scouts job isnt to take down soldiers, because a soldier who knows what he is doing will kill a scout. but if you really have to fight one i'd say height advantage, jumping on objects where a soldier can't spam splash damage on you, and if there's none of that sometimes you can charge into them and kill them, cause as clockwork says they don't expect you to be so "full hardy".

Badgers, the thing is, if I were to get caught by a soldier while I'm attempting to get ballsy, I charge at them. But the thing is, if I don't jump, they could always just shoot the ground and destroy me in a matter of seconds. Even during strafing, the splash will always catch me and chip off around 2/3 of my health.

you cant just get tips and they automatically work flawless, you gotta practice them

but one other thing is if you get close enough to them circle strafe them it is hard for them to aim for you if you're either jumping around their head of circle strafing them

The trick is doing a mix of the two (as well as other things) so they don't know what to expect. Learning what they'll expect is the hard part, and I think that just boils down to experience.

you should try doing some of these things:
1. One thing that really screws up rockets is changing your distance between you and the soldier (this works with all projectiles and it certainly helps "dodge" hitscan too.)
2. Just jump once. Not double jumping as a scout really throws people off because t hey will often just wait for you to jump again.
3. When you jump airstrafe and try to get good at aiming while doing this.
4. try to actually move out of the way of rockets instead of just randomly dodging.
5. Against hitscan you can randomly stop for a millisecond to mess with people's heads. Don't use this too much though.
6. If you know you're in a situation where you probably wont win, surf rockets away from soldiers.
7. Pay attention to calls that say that a soldier is in an enclosed area. Its really easy for them to kill you in areas like the house on badlands so its often smart to just avoid them in those positions.
8. Some people have a lot of trouble hitting scouts that constantly shift the little area theyre spamming WASD in towards one direction. The other day i was in and sonnn was in there and it was really hard to hit him sometimes because i kept having to aim farther and farther to the left.

I actually used that when I started TF2. Sadly, it didn't touch on comp play. I found this one quite good for comp play. I just didn't understand some of the concepts Clock explained in the video so I picked up only some of the tips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svCmXhYxMGc

Wrong.

You're supposed to run directly into them and hope you hit a good shot so they blow themselves up.
