Lange's i49 Thanks Thread

I apologize for clogging up the forums with another i49 thread, but I feel I owe too many thanks to too many people for this to be piggybacked onto an existing post.

I want to say thanks to the following people/groups:

The i49 NA Fundraiser - Enigma and Mana for organizing it, Mana for taking care of logistics, and the community for donating so generously. If we hadn't sent a North American team to i49, I wouldn't have gone. Hopefully next year we can figure out a way to make this happen without having to place so much of the financial burden on the community, or at least find a better way of giving back.

HRG - Tagg for being my travel buddy, Shade for being an absolute riot (especially at 4:00 in the morning), and the rest of HRG for being okay with me inviting myself to take part in their adventure. I wish we could have gotten to see you on the main stage, but there's always next year.

iM - Thank you for putting on the best damn games I have ever seen. Doing camerawork for their matches was an honor, and I'm so thankful for everything that they sacrificed and endured to get themselves to Telford. Nothing went right for them on this trip, but they showed that they have the skill to compete with the best in the world and the heart to persevere. I want to see them back next year, and on the Grand Finals stage. Hanging out with you guys in London was incredible fun, even if I was too tired to go out and do anything!

VanillaTV (I'm wearing my VTF2 shirt as I write this.) - Byte for organizing/managing people and for letting me walk in and take over half the production while making him pay for the last-minute equipment that we needed (sorry). DavidTheWin for being my relief for a few hours on Saturday, Atmo for working to make umpteen browser source things for me during the show, bluee for helping me with AdvSpec and trying to troubleshoot the medic display issues. Arx, Beta, Sal, Skully, Byte, and all the other casters for being a joy to work with (Pognon gets a special shoutout for doing EVERYTHING by himself on the VTVFR stream, what a beast!)

I am unspeakably grateful for the opportunity that VanillaTV gave me, and I hope I lived up to their expectations. I want to do it again next year!

My "backstage groupies", as atmo dubbed them - Throughout the event I had people peeking into my production dungeon to shake my hand and tell me how good of a job I was doing. I was totally cut off from the rest of the world back there, so having that positivity around me helped more than any of you guys will ever know. I even had people handing me food and drink if I even so much as looked thirsty, and that generosity kept me going. Props to atmo for letting me try some of his Jaffa Cakes!

e-thug and CUBE - The only game I played the entire time I was at i49 was a Portal race against e-thug. CUBE was nice enough to let me use his computer for this. I think Bones and Anders got some of it on film, and it might show up in their i49 video a few months down the road. It was really fun doing a race while having a small crowd behind us!

The "TF2 Steps" - You guys know who you are. I had an absolute blast getting blasted with you guys out on the steps, and it was fantastic to get to talk to so many of you in person, even if I only remember some of it.

KritzKast - For interviewing boring old me on not just one, but two occasions! You guys are awesome fun, and I'm glad I finally had a chance to meet you in person. I'm excited to watch the full live VOD, as I've heard that some pretty crazy things happened.

Skyride and Comedian - Two of the people whom I respect the most, when it comes to the technical side of things. Always thinking, always learning, always teaching me new things. Thank you for putting in so much work over the years, and paving the way for me to do what I did this year. I owe a lot to you two.

Anders - The great viking himself, IRL cameraman extraordinaire (as opposed to TF2 cameraman). Was literally always filming or carrying his gear from point A to point B every single time I saw him. Put up with our antics and filmed whatever dumb idea came to our heads. I did not know Anders before this event, but after i49 he is now one of my favorite people. A pleasure to work with.

Sal - Taking the most insane travel schedule so he could fit i49 into his busy work schedule. For anyone who doesn't know, Sal came up on the Friday and left like 36 hours later. He was traveling for longer than he was at the event. If that isn't dedication, I don't know what is. It was a pleasure to finally meet you (and get very drunk with you) after all this time.

Arie - Trusting us with his VERY nice camera, and doing an infinite amount of thankless grunt work. Photoshopping assets, cutting vods, monitoring chat and forums for useful feedback, setting up camera shots, and even buying me food and drink to keep me conscious throughout the grueling days. Arie is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people I've ever had the privilege of working with, and I cannot wait to do it again. Without him and Bones, we would have not been able to handle the technical issues we had, not by a longshot.

Bones - Andy Bones is an absolute legend. He housed the Aussies, shuttled me all around England, loaned out computers to people at i49, and set up most of the VTV stage (with most of the equipment being his, no less). He also ran around filming dozens of hours of footage with Anders, and will be making a massive frag video in collaboration with CUBE. Words cannot describe how excited I am for that.

Bones' contributions to i49 are so immense and numerous that I am sure to have forgotten a few, but let it be known that the Andy Bones Experience gave everything he had to make i49 the best show possible, while asking nothing in return. For that, he has earned my utmost respect and admiration. Thank you.

---

There were so many amazing people at i49 that I'm bound to have forgotten some. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and I'm honored to have been a part of something so spectacular. I had the time of my life meeting everyone, and can't wait to do it again. Thank you.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank YOU, Lange, for all that you have done.

Beautifully orchestrated. Precisely executed.

Can we get some more Lange camerawork on this side of the ocean?

You're too kind.

There's a lot that I could have done better. The biggest problem that we had was due to the way OBS is built. OBS lacks the ability to edit a scene withing displaying it live on stream. This means that any time there was a problem, we had to fix it in front of everyone. This made us reluctant to integrate a lot of the suggestions we got from feedback, as there was no good way for us to do it without cutting the stream. Hopefully in the near future OBS will implement separate scene building, but I think that we did roughly the best we could with what we had.

What Ruwin said. Your camera work was the best I've ever seen in any tf2 cast. The HRG vs iM matches were a delight to watch, the timing on the camera was perfect. Not even in demo recasts have I seen better camerawork.

moar pls

It was awesome working with you Lange. We just fed you STVs and stream cheat links, and all the rest was done perfectly by you, all day without complaint. I regret not being able to talk to you more outside of the casts, because they took up most of both our days :D

The quality of the stream was absolutely superb thanks to you Lange. Salamancer became my favorite caster at this event. He seems to do better with a European partner in crime.
