Yeah I saw that thread, but I was wondering if there was any way we could organize a steam group or something to see who actually plays it and organize duels and such

We have an old TF2 CPMAers group that we used back since natf2 that magus made, I haven't seen him in a while. Possibly we could make a TF.TV CPMA group ORRRRRRR we can use the TF.TV Quake group in general.
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/teamfortresstvquake
I believe conn meant it for QL, but it does just say Quake so it should mean any of the quakes. We've lately been playing QL and having fun, but quite a few of us actually do play CPMA. Also meb plays CPMA alot too, so maybe he could organize some things. The mumble info is on that group page, I made channels for QL and CPMA to keep it organized, feel free to use!

I'd be willing to come back to cpma if more people played. Lately, we've had good turnouts on ql; magikarp, powah (even with his 172 ping), beat, leaky, doze, conn, cjc, and I were playing quite a bit today (tdm and duels).

Couldn't we just use PQL in Quake Live? Let's get some CTF going!

I'm not against CPMA, but I dunno where my q3 cd is. :[

PQL does a decent job of emulating CPMA, but it's not the same.

Missing your Quake 3 CD/dont want to buy the game?

KhakiAre there a whole lot of differences between QL and CPMA? and,

Is there true bunnyhopping in CPMA?

full air control, increased speed gained from strafejumping, instant weapon switch. This doesn't sound like much but it makes the game far faster than ql and the way it's played/postioning changes drastically.

also cpma's pretty much free considering the amount of pak0's that are on the internet compared to ql's limited maps if you're free.

Ofc ql is a more active game and you'll be able to play without organising pickups/duels with people. Australia's pretty bad, we've only got about ~20 people who frequent #promode.au

I'd play. I have pretty much never played Quake aside from bots in Q3, but I guess if Quake carries into comp TF2 it has to go a little in the other direction.

Well I don't know if this will work or not but I created a steam group to organize this stuff. If you have not played before I included TLR's link to the CPMA website. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/q3cpma

I was never a fan of the instant weapon switch because of how much it broke railgun combos in QL(might be remembering this completely wrong, even the game, but serversettings?), but i'll give it a shot again

Join the group regardless of region. If we can get a solid player base it will definitely be more enjoyable than just playing with the same person all the time.

I feel that right now the player base is sorta more exclusive to more advanced players, but if we can establish a more thriving community than the present one we can widen that base to become more inclusive to players who are not as experienced. Many people in the cpma community are willing to teach and assist new players. Soooo don't be discouraged if you are new, we were all new at one point or another just be willing to learn :)

So we're not gonna use the same TF.TV quake group? Wow okay :C
Honestly it's better if we unify the groups, anyone can play either QL or CPMA, so when we have announcements and events, for either, you can choose what you want to play at the time and etc.
Also, too many groups to join everytime someone wants to start a new thing X_X

I think Magikarp has a point, we should just blend all the groups into one.

I've updated the group page to include multiple arena shooters including CPM, Warsow, and even QuakeWorld. Also, I posted links to downloads of each game.

Everyone in the group can now make announcments. Dave_ and Magikarp are now admins in the group.

I played some CPMA way back in its heyday, and actually got to know a lot of the better NA players- I was pretty terrible at it though. I eventually realized that with the hardware I had at the time it was going to be hard to get all that much better (I was getting 10-20 fps a lot of the time.)

But the other thing is that the player-base was uniformly really skilled. Even with my 10-20 fps I could stomp most VQ3 DM servers, but I remember just getting destroyed by people like Apheleon, over and over. Every once in a while new players I could play against would show up, but they would leave really quickly, because they were getting destroyed too.

I didn't know people were still playing CPMA, and I'd be psyched to play, now that I have hardware that can handle it, even if I just got destroyed over and over. But I am a glutton for punishment. I will play against much better players until they get bored with beating me 35 to -2 at duel, because I figure that has to eventually make me better. Most of my friends would just drop the game after a beating or two though. And unlike TF2, CPMA has very little in it that lets weaker players have some chance against stronger ones.

I'd love to see CPMA have a renaissance, but it seems like a tough game to get into if the only people you have to play against are people who have been playing it since 2002.

EDIT: But yeah, I am going to see if I can dig up my old Q3 CD and I'd love to play if you don't mind that I haven't played in a long time, suck, and probably can't remember how to bunny. I played some QL a couple of years ago, and even had a pro account for a while, that I never used because no one I knew wanted to play. Now that they have made QL so unfriendly to F2Ps I think it would be great if there were a resurgence of real servers.

from my experience the best .exe for cpm is quake3e (http://edawn-mod.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7), it has fewer problems with resolution/aspect ratio, the mouse input is a lot better, and it actually gets updated

also helpful commands:
- to make your xhair on 16:9 not be stretched, use cg_crosshairsize (n*3)x(n*4) for any n, e.g. 21x28
- r_mode -1; r_customwidth 1920; r_customheight 1080; r_fullscreen 1 for custom resolutions
- https://www.dropbox.com/s/pzaklzcsun1hp42/grape.cfg there's my cfg, it has basically all of the commands you need and quite a few more

Hey guys. Lately the cpma community has gotten a good amount of new players trying out lots of different game modes and having fun learning the game. There will be upcomming new player dm tournaments, and even possible ctf/ntf ("not team fortress") tournaments if people continue to discover this game and give it some time. The best way to get involved would be to go through www.uscpmpickup.com and access the #uscpmpickup channel. Any new players are welcome to message me there if they need help setting anything up. There are mumble servers available as well. Hope to see you there!

Let me state my objectives with this group:

1. I am looking for a revival of the cpma or as Severian said a "renaissance"
2. Create an educated and new player-base for the game so everyone can play more often and enjoy themselves
3. Increase the diversity of the skill level through the educated and new player-base.
4. Have a community where everyone is willing to contribute to the well-being of new players and helping them learn the intricacies of this awesome game.
5. Have fun!

I created the group with these objectives in mind because I felt that these ideals were not being adequately conducted in the existing groups.
