Europe has the nations cup, and Australia has state of origin (idk if this is still active). Why don't NA, Asia or south America do something similar where players from different countries/regions can compete. I know any country can play in the nations cup but ping is still a significant issue especially in the 6s version.
on top of ping, time zones are also a pretty big issue. na scrim times would be around 3 am for euros (even though it's a bit friendlier for asia/oceania since that would be their afternoon if i'm not mistaken, but the ping would be even worse). i can imagine that's the most common reason why most people do not want to or simply cannot play in leagues outside of their region

my point is that schedules across the world don't really align for an online event that welcomes anyone across the world
unless you meant a purely usa regions cup. asiafortress has their own nc and i'm pretty sure they're trying to ping interest for a second one

I think there's probably more desire to do it nationally in Europe than regionally in the US/CAN. For Europe you have the national pride element plus the fact that people are probably already friends (or even teammates) with people from their country more frequently. I don't think there's enough motivation or incentive to take away from regular rgl seasons for a poorly motivated regional (or state-based, though idt there are enough people in most states to do that) tournament in NA. Also has to do with the fact that RGL seasons are basically back-to-back-to-back with very little down time/ offseason time, which is generally spent making teams for the next season anyway.
HL might be easier cuz they only play like 3 days a week, idk. It would be fun, but I don't see people wanting to make the time for it

Asia has had nations cups in the past but idk when the last one was

The scene there is already tiny so idk if there's the manpower to do it anymore. Also it's massively skewed towards singapore bc of 5 ping

the two remaining polynesian tf2 players are mashing f5 on this post
na timezone cup
winner gets to pick standard scrim times

Myself and ozfortress/AsiaFortress have tried a few times to organise cross-region activity between NA and APAC, however there are not many teams actually interested due to the ping. If there was new interest in it, I'd be happy to work with others to organise a cup.
There is an Asian bookable service called Matcha that has server regions all over Asia, which could offer decent ping.
Guam used to exist as a region, however after thorough testing it was found that only a small group of players were getting better ping compared to other regions, so it has since been deactivated.

I did host one regionally for US/CAN for RGL once. It was called Region Wars and was for Highlander. Though the way we did this was by splitting up players by region:
- Southwest (US)
- Midwest(US)
- South (US)
- Northeast (US)
- Canada
- Europe
It could be possible for 6s, but would depend on the interest level and a longer offseason for 6s.

When I was in Guam I got 100 ping to OneQode Guam servers lol. But routing on the island has always been funky. Kudos to them for trying
