I think I was a little mislead on the whole "MMO" part of this game, but man this game is beautiful and challenging. 1st boss took me like fifty tries but I did it with 1hp and luck of the frame. Running mage, loving it so far.

Miyazaki did it again!!! Though the ports still pretty abysmal as all from software ports are.

It's everything I didn't want it to be: Dark Souls 2.5 - Open world edition...
A dream come true for soulslike fans, but when it was announced I liked the fact that the fantasy-medieval atmosphere seemed to be very distant from Dark Souls and I was hoping for something new, with a new engine, new enemies AI, new menu and hud concepts, better support, a game that on the technical side looks like it's meant to be released in 2022 etc. An overhaul of their medieval fantasy games basically

Kinda forgot about the terrible optimization, but we know that From is not exactly capable of programming on a technical level

I'm on a 1080, 5800x, 32gb RAM, on NVME storage and I haven't experienced any performance issues that I'd wanna start a fire over. A little stutter when a graveyard wants to pop a dozen skeletons up at once, only times I've crashed are when I'm playing co-op and that's only crashed a couple times in the loading screen. Also running on max graphics. I've gotten a little input delay on my wireless controller, but it has only ever gotten me killed once. I've been playing every title by From Software since Tenchu Z, and this feels like the best form and function of everything they've ever done to date. Shame to hear so many negative outlooks on things on what I think are some of the coolest parts being introduced to the formula. I wonder how people will sound when they beat the game and eventually acclimate to the changes. Personally, just here for the ride and enjoy what they have setup for everyone to experience.

I found the "Ambush Shard" sorcery and wow I can't wait to get invaded now, this shit is gonna be so fun to spam on those backstab spammers.

Mage has been super fun though, all the other titles I've played as a Tarkus descendent going typical strength build jump attack spamming. Just tired of it, wanted to see how a magic playthrough feels like. It's easier in some regards, but you can miss your spells on some mobs that are really acrobatic. I could dodge all day but if I run out of FP flasks, I'm fucked, I cannot do damage with a useless glintstone-on-stick. Melee can just run around constantly and hit the same damage expectedly and only worry about dodging. If melee had durability and had to worry about their weapon becoming useless mid-fight, maybe mage mode would undeniably be the easier way to play.

i have no idea how people can play dark souls and its clones without falling asleep because they all look, control and feel indistinguishable from eachother

Ds3 and Elden Ring feel nearly identical but if you think for example ds1 and sekiro or blood borne feel or play the same you are just lost

Elden ring is my first souls game (aside from like 5 hours of 3). It's been fantastic so far. Playing a str/end build tanking hits like a freak and swiging a big stick. Both Margit and Godrick took way too many tries to kill and way too many hours. But I did it and it was super satisfying. I finally GET why people love souls games.

sekiro is literally the only one of that games i can pick out and only cuz it got rid of the vast majority of the soulsoid baggage

sekiro is the only one that is noticably different. all the games have differences in how they feel and play, but its the same exact system. the same strategies work, the weapons have almost entirely identical movesets, even enemy types are directly copy pasted with little to no changes. i think ive fought the asylum demon 4 times in elden ring alone. bloodborne isnt as samey as the rest, its just slightly faster than other souls games and has a vastly different setting and aesthetic. past the gimmick of weapons transforming they are also the same by and large

the level designs are also extremely similar. theres a poison swamp, a magic cave, a large castle, a village or town thats been devastated by some force, sometimes multiples of them. these areas also have similar threats inside, to the point that when you enter these areas you know what to be on the lookout for your very first time through even going in blind, just from playing the previous games.

you can easily play all souls games in the same way with the exception of sekiro, even then spacing and dodging enemies can work just not as well as parrying/pressure. the only thing in bloodborne you cant really do is tank with a shield as effectively as you can in souls.

the games in general add very little between installments and they reuse massive amounts of stuff, if you took someone that hasnt played the games or has played very little and dropped them into a random souls game they would have no concrete way to tell what game they are in without trying to judge graphical differences or if they had seen parts of the game from streams or videos. hell even the controls between all the games are basically 100% identical with small changes here and there (not talking about kbm)

Elden Ring is my first souls game, and through the frustration and endless hours i spend on a single boss im still having a lot of fun. The game is pretty tight.

Started adding a bit of casting to my str build and holy shit magic is OP. I first try cleared several bosses after getting rock throw.

I beat the game and I think the last three bosses were the hardest for me. But the Raya Academy Boss was also pretty hard for me as a caster build so I actually needed a summon.
