Meet Dave (2008) 9/10
A film orbiting around the theme of hope, spiritually uplifting in virtually every aspect.

One very interesting thing to note is that how everything in this film, from the dialogue, narration, to camera angle and motion, musical and facial cue, always sets out to mislead the audience. In almost every scene something was deliberately omitted. The camera would be placed awkwardly to hide a detail crucial to the scene -- it could a bird, a rope or, you guessed it, shoes.

Meet Dave is an endless cycle of deception, surprise, deception, surprise.. like when the camera pans around Eddie Murphy to reveal a compass which was initially assumed to be a gun; (the audience, fooled again, by the morbid narration.)

Or when Brooks used a sentence as harmless as "I choose.. not to meet Dave" when he could just say "We interrupt this film to give you an unscheduled test run of endless sobbing simulator 2008."

Sorry, I am indeed a very fragile man.

Yesterday was Marlon Brando's birthday, an actor who was an inspiration to some actors and is considered by many one of the best to ever do it.
He was big a part of very iconic and influential films such as The Godfather (1972) and Apocalypse Now (1979).
He passed at the age of 80 in 2004 but his legacy will forever live on in his movies

Did you rate Waterworld?

it got absolute shit on by critics but it's I think it's kinda watchable.

Gotta mention Planet of the Apes if you talk Dystopian films. I'd also suggest Gattaca , Minority Report and Equilibrium.

Good list.

Did you rate Waterworld?

I have mixed feelings about it, the idea was so good and it had the potential to rival Star Wars in terms of SF films imo, but instead we got the Waterworld we have, an ok-ish film.
I don't know what the fix would be, maybe originally creating it to be a franchise, or making it a 3 hour movie and changing the plot, because this feels like a star wars on water, with a mad max (but worse) plot

StylaxGood list.

Thank you

I gotta second Upgrade, that movie was really fucking good. I also really liked Baby Driver but I think most people have heard of that one already.

2 days ago Charles Grodin passed away, so I will go ahead and encourage everyone reading this to watch Midnight Run (1988), a wonderful comedy starring him and Robert De Niro, which I feel is pretty unknown for a movie this good.

I just saw "The Event Horizon." It had bad reviews so I wasn't expecting much, but it was good.
