I'm assuming no way to disable that? or if that is even allowed

You can hear someone reloading scattergun or shotgun but it's pointless 99.9% of the time and is straight up a disadvantage to not have auto reload

this was the exact reason hero chose not to have auto-reload on

if you really want to mask your reload sound just swap to melee or a weapon with a full magazine, it almost never matters though, TF2 isn't CS

Enigma used to say he didn't use it so people wouldn't hear him flank on scout. Have in mind this was a long ass time ago.

redcoat won like 7 seasons of ozfort as demo without using it lol
its objectively better to use it of course but the advantage is just really minute once you get into the habit of pressing your reload key

also the reload sound is much quieter than a literal rocket launcher being fired / scattergun shot. if you have to reload, you aren't sneaking. also (iirc) footstep mods are banned atm

In my mind I reload faster when I mash 'r' a bunch of times. I know this is false.

I have autoreload disabled on my spy config, as reloading your revolver when disguised will play a little reload animation for your disguise class. The number of times I've actually used this to successfully sell a disguise in 8000 hours of tf2, I could probably count on one hand. But... y'all were asking and I guess it is a reason to disable even if it's a pretty maginal one.

zandawhy? I'm genuinely curious

I use an autoreload toggle bind for these reasons:

  1. No Wasted shots on FaN and Soda Popper
  2. Catch enemies off guard by making them think I'm out of ammo in my clip.
  3. Allows me to do fake reloads on spy.
