13 year old boy attempts to rape mother then murders her because of being grounded in call of duty due to bad grades. Truely a sad day in mankind.

http://www.eteknix.com/13-year-old-boy-attempts-to-rape-mother-then-murders-her-because-of-call-of-duty/

This is also going to go back to the gun control thing, and I think it may even be taken as far to go for regulating first person shooters, especially Call of Duty, and maybe even TF2. Which makes me wonder...
...Do you think video games make kids/people violent?

nope, was nope, still is nope, will always be nope.

edit: unless some day they invent this robotic arm that comes out of your screen and injects something into your brain that makes you want to kill people.

To make matters worse still, the gun used was a .22 caliber rifle, which was gifted to him by his mother when Noah was 11 years old, so he was already in possession of the weapon used for the murder and clearly had easy access to it from a young age

Who gives an 11 year old a gun?

Video games do not make young children violent. Lack of parental supervision and emotional nourishment lead to violence among children.

I asked kuza this, but I would like to hear most of the older peoples positions on this. Older would include 96 and below (imo), what happened to bad parenting being blamed for this type of news?

This is a really weird case.

The kid did it, then after it was over he realized what happened and now he seems really remorseful and upset. At least from what the article says, he doesn't seem to show any of the psychotic tendencies that you would expect. Then again, if he really is a psychopath, this could all be acting.

I wonder if he was on any prescription medication when this happened.

the boy probably had intermittent explosive disorder, not really an example of "a stupid person influenced by videogames." i can see where the confusion might have happened in shooting, but the kid almost raped his mom, and that's something videogames don't really teach you. those who kill and don't regret doing so are most likely sociopaths and that's something you don't really acquire from killing in games either. The most games can do to a person is lower their reaction to more violent stimulus but people who end up doing dumb shit like this have a mental issue not related at all to games.

on a side note buying your kid a gun at 11 years old is a fucking stupid idea when 11 year olds have only begun the child development stage (the formal operational stage) where they learn how to logically break down the implications of their actions and how to solve their own problems.

MYLESI asked kuza this, but I would like to hear most of the older peoples positions on this. Older would include 96 and below (imo), what happened to bad parenting being blamed for this type of news?

people don't want to turn on the news/open the newspaper and hear/read "you're fucking up big time with your kids." people don't like admitting when they're doing a shitty job of something, especially not when it comes from a third party. doing so usually results in people getting super defensive, and would try to spin the medias coverage (parents being shitty at their job) onto the media's "ulterior motive" as always.

stations/papers that chose to do this would lose customers by offending them, so they don't. they blame video games. most parents aren't too fond of video games, so voila, perfect scapegoat. just ignore the fact that it's the parents fault for letting their kid play xbox for 9 hours a day.

Dead on, you have no idea how many god awful parents I see at the pool I work at daily. They really ought to re-name smartphones to Child-Ignoring-Device. Perhaps they just aren't aware that their kids can't breathe underwater.
