INVITE HL MATCHFIXING SCANDAL

Boys. We've done it. Recharge Gaming League has reached a new low. The second seed Invite HL team Run It Back has been DQed from playoffs for matchfixing our steel match vs froggieland. The situation: several weeks before the match, me (rib's pyro) and Poseidon (rib's sniper) informed our team that we cannot play the match. In my case, I was on Spring Break and couldn't take my entire setup home in my roommate's car, and Poseidon spent the entire weekend at a friend's wedding. The week of the match, gG; (our engi) contracted Dengue fever (he lives in Brazil) and was essentially bedridden the entire week. Then the night of the match, Maeko overslept. The entire team has logs of calling him: it was a stupid mistake on his part, but nothing malicious of course. Leading up to the match, we offered [correction: we only actually offered one ringer, my b] dt (won HL on demo last season) as a ringer and he was denied by froggie so we settled and rang a close friend of the team, kjr. In the match, froggieland rolled rib pretty hard, it was a fair win by them as we had 4 ringers/subs and steel is the most teamplay based map in the hl pool.

At about 10 PM EST on Wednesday, March 13, we were informed that RIB is being disqualified from invite playoffs for MATCH FIXING THE GAME. What evidence was this based on? If it's a ringer issue, 3 of our players communicated way in advance that they could not play. If it's a gameplay issue, how can you expect our ringers and subs to coordinate in only one weekend? Also, we had already banned steel because it's worst map. Additionally, rib has been shit at steel for multiple seasons anyways. It is clear to rib, as well as members on others on other playoffs invite teams that there was no RATIONAL BASIS for this decision. For context, this is basically 3 months worth of map reviews, demo reviews, scrims and grinding all for nothing based on decision of "the admins", who clearly have no idea what's actually going on.

There have been quite a few shitshows in 6s and hl in the course of RGL's history, but this is egregious even by their standards. What a travesty. How can you call this a competitive league if rgl admins are literally erasing other teams from playoffs?

it takes them 2 days to determine that a team is throwing but takes months to determine a blatant cheater is cheating. i would really like to see what evidence the admins have come up with to determine that rib is throwing

Losing to anyone on steel is the least suspicious thing ever because of how hectic of a map it can be and how much coordination matters, and those things get multiplied when you have ringers. If this match is the only “proof” that’s a pretty weak argument for match fixing

The fact that the other team was able to deny a ringer in fucking invite is an actual joke.

I gotta piggyback off of this and say that denying ringers in invite is actual baby behavior lmao. Sadly it's way more common in HL than you would think.

leifThe week of the match, gG; (our engi) contracted Dengue fever (he lives in Brazil)

Fate worse than death (living in Brazil).

But man this is penalizing MAL for sharting to froyo but 100x worse cause removing 2nd seed from playoffs (with relatively new players to boot) is absolute insanity.

The only invite level admins that I'm aware of are exa and yoggrt who I imagine have recused themselves from this decision because they have conflict of interest (or at least I desperately hope so), so you just know that another IM level player did this.

BTW no demos or STV is public so not sure how this was even assessed... the cast ...?

new info: the stvs were never made public. so the admins banned rib based off either the cast vod or the logs

The admins who decided this are apparently IM and Main highlander players. They also seem to have made the decision before STVs were public, meaning they came to this season-altering conclusion from watching the CAST VOD. I cannot overstate how ridiculous this is. RGL needs to make a clear public statement; this is literally one of the most ridiculous things league admins have ever done.

A case like this should have decisive evidence, if the admins did this lightly or off of a cast vod alone that is a serious issue and speaks very poorly on rgl

As this is not a cheating case I don't see any reason rgl can not speak up and present their evidence or otherwise revert the decision

4 subs and on *steel*, the map where one or two bad choices cost you the game. Come on now, who reported this

JwBREAKING NEWS: ADMINS JUST REVERSED THE DECISION AND APOLOGIZED

New RGL Bad Decision Thread any% speedrun record.
Not sure if they're actually trying to do better, or just have become so used to the process.

Also, rgl.gg is throwing an internal server error now (500), so apparently the website can't cope with decision making that fast.

tobiashow is anyone other than yogrrt allowed to make a decision on how an invite team should be punished

All the invite level admins are also rostered on other playoff teams (yogrrt/exa) so they have conflict of interest. In an ideal world you have an invite level admin who is not rostered to avoid shit like this but the # of invite players who simultaneously have the time/desire to be an admin but not to play the game is probably 0 lol.

Another part of it is that any discipline history, no matter how minor, is a disqualifier. and having a "bad reputation" (in the eyes of whatever admins there already are) is also a disqualifier. and being overqualified is a disqualifier (e.g. wish).
So what you end up getting is half of the admins have a relatively blank slate in regards to experience relative to pretty much ANY invite player

Any bans/penalties related to "match fixing" should only be handed out by experienced admins if there is very concrete evidence. Neither of which there was in this case. It's such an egregious overstepping by the admins involved, which RGL clearly agrees is the case with the swift reversal, that the admins involved clearly are unfit to have any power in RGL.

Can RGL have like one natural born leader or some level headed person that can actually decide the calls before they're put into action?
I think the RGL screening process should be more than just "are you available and old enough"
