Just like with BDSP i have been emulating the game all week before it was released. Want to get some other peoples opinions on it.

Some of mine are in the spoiler

Show Content
Pros:
-Great gameplay loop, makes you actually feel like you are involved in the world and learning about the local populations
-New battle mechanics are nice, the speed system is a good change but strong/agile are mostly forgettable imo
-The human character designs for pokemon have been nonstop bangers for like 27 years now
-having sidequests you can do is really nice
-some of the tracks in the late game go crazy, shoutouts to a solid soundtrack
-apparently the game is scripted in LUA so getting rom hacks shouldnt be horrifically difficult
-I applaud game freak for trying something new and having a pretty solid implementation of it

Cons:
-the game looks fucking BAD. I would be pissed if i bought a game with this visual fidelity 10 years ago. I thought i was one of those people that didnt really care about graphics until i played this game. I upscaled the resolution to 4x and it actually looked fine but people that follow the rules and play it on real hardware are going to be disappointed. I genuinely dont know if i could have finished the game if i played it at native resolution
-trying something new is nice but some of the stuff theyre trying was done better 15 years ago, its pretty unacceptable that the pokemon company cant do better than this
-in the late game, bit of a disconnect between the narrative(figuring out whats happening with the noble pokemon) and the gameplay advancement(exploring and getting survey corps promotions). Sometimes you will complete the story part and still have a lot of grinding left to do, and i dont mean levels

After you beat the game and the credits roll, there is sort of a "true ending" you get in the post game, but it was a pretty significant level jump, grinding up a new team for it now. Here is what im running with:

A few hours into the game so far -- it is very fun gameplay wise. Going in and out of battling/catching is super fluid which is a nice change. Definitely some stuff that needs to be brought into future games.

The graphics could and should be better than what they are, but the game gets me excited for the next Pokemon Legends game (hopefully on new switch hardware)

i really wanna be optimistic about GameFreak doing new things with the franchise but the fact that it is different gameplay feels like the only talking point i have seen from the general public over how good that gameplay is in actuality.

Ultimately GameFreak itself has proven to be very technologically inept and all the best games of the Pokemon franchise where made by other devolpment studios and thats just kinda sad.

Been playing it since the 19th on my modded switch. It's been really fun so far. My first pokemon game since Pokemon Red since the other ones I got bored of in the first 3 hours.. This one I think i'm around 15 or so into and it's been a blast! GameFreak needs to lean into actual change in their games imo, keep the franchise core things, (catching, battling, exploring.) but change up the actual inbetween gameplay and keep things fresh.

Big agree about the music. I was just chilling cleaning my room while listening to the towns theme music. Very good stuff.

DuMmTmi really wanna be optimistic about GameFreak doing new things with the franchise but the fact that it is different gameplay feels like the only talking point i have seen from the general public over how good that gameplay is in actuality.

its still very ultimately a pokemon game and the gameplay feels very familiar, but how you interact with the world and fill out your pokedex is nice and you can do a lot without feeling tedious. it could use some tweaks though. the box system is basically unchanged and that makes things really messy when you need to catch 25 magikarps to fill out part of its pokedex entry. a way to stack them would be nice

oh yeah also the lore stuff is fuckin weird. theres a lot of stuff that they tried to justify considering that youre however far in the past, and they would have been better off just not acknowledging it at all

I've lost all confidence in GameFreak to make a good innovative Pokemon game. Imagine if an actual good dev studio under Nintendo made this game. I don't care if it takes 2, 3 or 4 years I just want something that makes me think "damn this is the best Pokemon game ever" which I haven't felt for years now.
It'd be more excusable if this was the first game that had bad graphics, but Sword/Shield also suffered from the same mistakes. Just shows GF don't learn or care about their mistakes and just want to pump out sequels and get their mindless fanbase to consume product

You run it through an emulator called ryujinx. Fitgirl does good stuff, and usually their switch repacks have the emulator in the folder as well. Once you install it you should be configured and ready to go. Usually they have a shortcut that opens the game through the emulator for you. At most you'll need to find a prod.keys file and put it in a specific location but it's not rocket science

That torrent comes with the emulator, once it's installed there's a .bat file that you run to launch the emulator with the game loaded into it

well yea, its a game for children, can you blame the company for taking the easy route in this.

Anyone got any shinies so far, excluding the request Ponyta? This is probably one of the most generous mainline games with shiny spawn rates, especially when you complete more of the dex throughout the game. Just from wandering alone, I've gotten a Drifblim, Haunter, and alpha Gardevoir. When I actually did an outbreak shiny hunt to see how high the rate was, got a shiny Bidoof on my first try.

thought about that too after i found my first but it makes alot of sense to find more shinies in this, you can see shinies in the overworld and also see like 6 pokemon at all times, so even with the same odds as usual you are getting to roll the dice alot more/faster than in any previous game
in my case, the game just spawned a Luxray in my face during a rift, if it was say Emerald and i could avoid that encounter i would have and never seen that it was a shiny in the first place

Apparently if you max everything, are in end game and have a mass outbreak the shiny rate is something like 1/50. Absolutely absurd and not sure if I actually like it being that easy...

This being said, I have seen data that basically says as the game progresses, the shiny rate is still 1/4096 per roll, but every pokemon that spawns gets more and more rolls to be shiny depending on what milestones you've hit, i believe maxing out at 32 rolls per pokemon, roughly 1 in 128 in an outbreak with perfect pokedex research and the shiny charm. So yeah, you see a LOT more pokemon in the overworld, but the chance of each one being a shiny is still higher than in base games by a large margin, hence why they're super common.

Would probably emulate it on principle because Nintendo has been shitting the bed for a while now but you do you rahBoss
