If Jay’s career ended today, how does his legacy compare to other historically great pocket soldiers, and where does he rank amongst the all time greats?
(ie: kaptain, Tek, Lansky, Mike, TLR, yomps, marmaloo, grape, yuki, Zebbosai, AMS, Reptile, etc etc)

when did marmaloo ever play pocket lmao

edit: to the point of the thread tho i dont think anyone disagrees that jay is one of the best, up there with past froyo pockets like yomps/paddie/lansky and top eu pockets like kaptain/mike/silentes/papi
it's hard to really compare between pockets tho cause froyo plays so combo scout/demo heavy that pocket is sort of a second roamer and jay ran spoon anyways so was especially roam-ey

i personally rate paddie more highly than other less comm-heavy pockets (also aim, who people forgot played for froyo, but im biased having played with both of them lol), but but dm and jumps/timing wise jay is definitely one of the strongest

I mean it’s difficult to compare him to previous pockets because the game has evolved so much during it’s lifespan. Reptile for example was easily the best pocket of his time, yet he probably wouldn’t even be in high open by todays standards.

This seems to be a huge misconception nowadays, but older players were good at the game because of their ability to adapt to new metas and styles of gameplay.

Yea 2009 b4nny would suck ass vs 2021 b4nny too but his ability to adapt and improve is what kept him at the top. All the old players would be the same way if they kept playing but there is this huge denial going on where everyone nowadays thinks they are 100x better than anyone before them. It's just how the game was played back then, none of it had to do with the actual skill level of players. And if that were true, I should have never been invite again after taking a 3 year break, let alone make playoffs.

Clockwork could pick this game up at a moment's notice and still be top 3 easily, same with lansky probably.

I think jay is the best pocket in invite by far right now because he improves faster than anyone in this division when needed. He literally created a new way to play soldier with an unlock all of us thought was dogshit, so the only comparison of old ages I think would be platinum, so I think Jay/Plat/Lansky are like the same top level pocket.

You’re 100% right regarding old players ability to adapt to current meta. What I was more so getting at is, the playstyle of that era is vastly different to what it is now and it’s therefore really hard to compare..as you touched on in your 2nd para.
