Seeing all the support and stuff that ow gets really makes me wish that playing it didn't make me want to die

Also does anyone else have the feeling they will be telling their Grandchildren that they played TF2 against Numlocked, who will be remembered in 50 years time as "The Pele of OW"?

Nor do they have any kind of stats. So there is really no way to know other than cards how well or how bad a player did.

---------------------------------------

It will be interesting to see if they can actually pull this off though. I'm a bit skeptical of the city based teams. That means either your city happens to have some good OW gamers, or a pro team or something all moves to one city from across the country and the world (which would seem kind of like an unfair advantage).

And then contracts and compensation. That would be like the NBA directly paying players their salary, but I'm pretty sure most of the players compensation comes from the team itself. Contracts? How many serious roster changes have all the top teams been through in the last year? Sounds like a logistical nightmare planning all of this stuff out.

And then if the regular season is on LAN then what does that mean, teams have to travel around regularly playing in different cities?

(going by paragraphs here)
1. To be fair the front-runners (the people already at overwatch lans) have the money to theoretically move to the same city. Even then there's a slim chance as it's not every city has an ow team.

2. In the trailer it's literally here's your check now play for us you bitch. There's a combine but that sounds like the most fucking brand-dead idea ever. The top 20 teams in NA iirc aren't really going to make any cuts. And you say it's a "logistical nightmare", but blizzard already has the balls to push this idea. If they fuck it up they still have all the OW money.

3. Yes, that would mean teams would have to move around. I'd propose a four conference idea (East, South, Midwest, and West) so teams wouldn't have to move around as much. This would allow players to continue school assuming all matches are on saturdays, and juggle any "jobs" (you play competitive overwatch now motherfucker).

I'm honestly intrigued to see how this works.

I think they said they shelved it to work on making 60 tick servers (among other things) but that was a while ago, I'd imagine it's still in the works.

Not a fan of the city based team system. Fucks over orgs, limits creation of competitve teams as the best players are spread all over. However it does make esports more pushable into the mainstream and the league in and of itself makes esports as a career more viable (contracts, salaries, benefits). It would also be interesting to see how teams use money (buying contracts of other players, good players demanding high salaries, etc).

Shame this isn't for tf2 ;(

saamI feel like the professional sports system works because of player's unions. Without those won't you just have players getting fucked over left and right because the teams that signed them are shitty? and with the (presumably) large amount of capital required to obtain a team it's not like players could create their own org like you've seen some teams do in CS. This just gives 100% of the power to orgs, if a player isn't signed by an org they can't compete it all. I don't like this at all right now

Central Blizzard contracts will almost certainly be better than the standard esports equivalent. Even so I'd urge OW players to start collective bargaining immediately

I dont think city based teams are good for esports, where the entire premise of making a team is that you can have talent from many different countries and it doesnt matter because of the internet. it looks like it will limit how good teams can be

saamcomp OW is already a full time job

A full time paid job for what half a dozen NA teams? The rest are more part time AFAIK... For this to actually work out we are talking probably the system needing at least 50 fulltime teams in 50 different cities. So that would take quite a significant amount of money. And not to mention it would be quite a commitment for people to relocate cities for a video game. When existing orgs that pull people from all around the world, how would a group of gamers from the same city hope to stand a chance?

And also for this to be viable Blizzard would need to make money off this. Is there that big of a demand for overwatch that people would pay to watch regular tournaments in their city? Still very skeptical that they can pull this off. My guess is they end up revising the league goals and change it from city to state or larger regions or just forgetting physical locations all together.

To be honest even a lot of mid level teams want players to scrim like 6 hours a day in the hopes of getting an org/ every player is hoping they get poached by a real org

Nah, orgs with a lot of money will simply get anyone they want to the city they want and how good teams can be won't be limited.

That's not true, their API does pull a lot of stats like weapon accuracy, heals done to certain players, how many times people ulted and how many kills they got from it. Most of the timet he stats aren't visible, but I'm sure that blizzard would make the stats visible to the casters and have a nice little ui for ti like the do in actual sports.

surely loads of shit hot korean teams will just relocate to various cities so they can dominate the overall regions?
this really does seem like it could be exploited if one scene in particular proves very dominant.
