I am curious as well. How is this being setup and conducted? What do people need to prepare? Shadowrun: Hong Kong?

I would assume it's the fps shadowrun that Twiggy linked seeing as how the other two games are fps. I played it several years ago and it's actually really really fun.

riotbzTeapotYoor if M+KB wants to play with a controller, halo CE was is my childhood, sucks I was never old enough to actually understand it when it was at its prime, I hope watching this is an enlightening experience

as a child there wasn't much more to understand than "shoot everyone in the head with the extremely accurate and powerful pistol"

I'm curious about it now though. I'll have to check it out :)

Thanks.

Will the deal be for the weekend only? I am not flying all the way to California to spend the weekend just at a LAN, I will want to stay a few days longer to see some of the sights.

I can't say for certain until it's actually available (we just spoke with them today and should expect it soon), however with the last time they ran this deal i played around with the hotel site and dates and it gave a few days in either direction. we'll update the thread once the hotel goes live and you guys can check it out.

I want it to be known that this should be the new premiere NA TF2 event. I don't want anyone waiting for a GXL announcement (or its new group called RGB LAN). I'm helping out with RGB LAN, but I don't think I'll be running a TF2 tournament for it, because I wouldn't want anyone to decide between going to only one or the other. If I do run one, it'll be very low-key.

I insist that if you want to go to an NA TF2 LAN and support the scene, go to this one that b4nny is putting together.

To clarify, yes, we will be playing the 2007 FPS version of Shadowrun. There's no simple way of explaining the game and all of it's content. It was basically designed to be one of the most competitive team based shooters, although I can understand if players disagree with certain mechanics. Shadowrun is a class based team shooter that is a cross between Counter Strike and Halo CE combined with magic and technical abilities. It's a round based game with a deep economy system very similar to CS. Each class has different stats and a unique trait.

Show Content
Elves are fast, have low health, low strength, lots of magic and can regenerate health. Not designed for head on fights but to get in an out. In this game, players have one life but their bodies will remain on the ground. All classes can purchase a skill called resurrect, which will revive the player and lock up 4 of your magic points as long as the player is alive. I say this because Elf would be the dedicated "medic" or player who rez's

Humans are a jack of all trades, medium speed, medium health/strength, decent magic, starts the game with an extra $500, receives and receives no penalty for using the tech such as glider, enhanced vision, wired reflexes etc. This class does it all, heals, flanks, supports, is the main damage dealer etc.

Trolls are your heavies! Very Slow, Very Strong (no movement penalty for holding heavy weapons) low magic, ok health. Has a unique trait called "harden". As long as the troll has magic to spare his skin will become harder with each bullet fired reducing the damage he takes. It's better to pace single shot weapons on him than spray with a SMG/Minigun.

Dwarves are typically not used in private matches or tournaments unfortunately, but are a TON of fun. The oddjob of Shadowrun. These little guys are similar to humans but with more strength and slightly less health. They have the most magic, but it takes the longest time to regenerate that magic. Instead, the dwarf's unique trait is that it can drain others of their magic essence when in proximity. When combined with a close range weapon you can trap other players so they don't have enough magic to escape, or you can drain the trolls magic so he can't use his ability, allowing you to kill him incredibly fast. These guys are also immune to headshot damage, any shot to the head will deal the same damage as a body shot.

This barely scratches the surface of this game! I hope it helps provide some insight on what you can expect. If anyone wants to learn more or give it a shot at the event we would be happy to help teach you both Shadowrun and Halo CE. I can link to a bunch of references online or help out at the event. B4nny here had sent me some great resources on getting into competitive TF2!

For the record, we are playing the console version of Halo CE on original xboxes and CRT's. These boxes have been modded with whats called Halo Neutral Host Edition. As odd as it sounds, there is a big host advantage on LAN, and this mod eliminates this by allowing a third xbox to be used as a "dedicated server" or neutral host. To achieve this, it was extremely more difficult than it sounds as there were numerous issues with adding a 5th player to the game beyond the surface level. As of right now, the classic competitive maps are all available, but there is one brand new map that you guys may have never seen before called Downrush. Downrush is a remake of Aerowalk from Quake, that has been scaled for Halo. It plays phenomenally.

If tf.tv was to write up a news post and perhaps replace the i58 highlight reel thread... It might help boost this upcoming LAN that's being hosted

Looking forward to have Halo CE, TeamFortress2 and Shadowrun Tournaments all going on at Esports Arena. Shadowrun 360 / PC is a great game. Jump in a game whenever you guys want. There are a bunch of us that can show you whatever we know. There is a learning curve and it is a complex FPS. EsportsArena.com has some connections with the Hyatt nearby $116 per night. Better deal is to AirBNB a place and share the cost http://esportsarena.com/events/2017/January/Rewind.html

SaturniteAre there going to be any nerd-triathlon teams?

meaning going to compete in all three games? it comes down to the schedule of the tournaments but that's my plan. I think it would be difficult finding a squad for TF2 that actually wants to play with me but then again it's not like we would be playing in the invitational. I assume even in the open tournament it would be a reality check of getting stomped, but I welcome that, since in my opinion one of the best ways to improve is to play the best.

I think the biggest problem you guys face with the H1 and Shadowrun communities playing is that we are all a bunch of console noobs. Theres a few of us that either these versions on PC but if anyone wanted to play in the TF2 portion, using a mouse and keyboard might look like that scene where bambi tries to stand up for the first time.

I've played more TF2 on the console than I'd like to admit, since it's a terrible version of the current game. So I understand a very good amount of the game but am interested in the competitive meta, like how to engage in team fights (break stalemates), how to isolate the medic without overextending, what scenarios a trade could be favorable, when to press and when to regroup etc. These things are what stands out in my mind when watching a competitive match. B4nny gave me some good stuff but I look forward to watching some more scrims in preparation for this event! I'd practice but I don't even have a pc...

At the event, if someone wants to adopt a noob, let me know! "Adopt a noob" is a program that actually started up on the MLG forums back in 2008 starting with Shadowrun and just pairs a teacher with a new student and they go over the games in depth, or chose an area to improve on. There will be plenty at the event willing to adopt or team with new players for the console games if anyone wants to try them.

would be really cool if someone could collect all the alias's of people confirmed going onto a google doc or something and just keep adding onto it the closer we get to the date of the lan. Could encourage some people to want to go after seeing people that are going that they might wanna meet irl or hang out with. maybe post a link somewhere so people can add their name to the list or something similar
