TF TeamBefore today—literally the moment before you started reading this sentence—the only way you could enjoy matchmaking on your computer was through dating sites. That got us thinking. What if you took the promise of dating site matchmaking, and, instead of getting matched up based on Snapchat's face-reshaping filters and lies about how much you love hiking, it was based on your actual real-face dating performance?

That's when it hit us: Take matchmaking and apply it to video games.

"But what about...?" you say, and we cut you off mid-sentence, gently place our fingers on your lips and whisper: Matchmaking has never existed in video games before.

But now it does! Click to find out how Matchmaking is going to change the way you play TF2 in the upcoming Meet Your Match Update!

level progression system, "Casual mode quickplay", I guess they're going the CS route, hopefully they invest in the scene, at least through esport keys or something to kickstart it.

Hoping for the promised updates to the ingame recording tool as well as some performance updates hopefully

"If you are unable to associate a telephone number with your Steam account, you can purchase a lifetime Competitive Access Pass from the Mann Co. Store. When the Meet Your Match Update goes live, you will be able to buy the Pass at an introductory discount rate of $9.99."

http://www.teamfortress.com/meetyourmatch/faq/

So MM is going to be behind a paywall, but only if you don't have steam mobile authentication.

Also the new rank icons look cool.

Loving the self-deprecation in the blog post. Also, matchmaking for pubs was completely unexpected to me but will improve the experience for new players tenfolds. No doubt it's gonna be important for easing people into the game.

Yay more info

Q: HOW DO I GET ACCESS TO COMPETITIVE MODE?
A: To gain access to Competitive Mode, you must have a Premium TF2 Account and a qualifying telephone number on Steam. Examples of a telephone number that does not qualify would be a Voice Over IP number (e.g. Skype) or a number linked to a VAC-banned account. (For more information about qualifying phone numbers, please visit the Steam FAQ.)

Q: WHY DO I NEED A PHONE NUMBER?
A: Associating a phone number with a Steam account helps ensure a greater degree of account security and player accountability, which reduces the likelihood of cheating and abuse.

Q: WHAT IF I CAN'T OR DON'T WANT TO PROVIDE A PHONE NUMBER?
A: If you are unable to associate a telephone number with your Steam account, you can purchase a lifetime Competitive Access Pass from the Mann Co. Store. When the Meet Your Match Update goes live, you will be able to buy the Pass at an introductory discount rate of $9.99.

Q: WHAT ARE COMPETITIVE MODE'S RULES AND RESTRICTIONS?
6v6
no class or weapon restrictions
no random criticals
no team changes
fixed shotgun spreads
for symmetrical Control Point maps, best-of-3 or best-of-5 (higher ranks only)
for Attack/Defense maps, stopwatch mode (fastest attacking team wins)

I guess you could call Skial, and Firepowered the exceptions. Along with jump, surf/b-hop, mge/dm maps of course. Just community servers that weren't any of those have been dead for a long time.

Q: Are there any minimum requirements to play?
A: The only minimum requirement is DirectX 9. However, certain graphical settings will be enforced in order to ensure a level playing field (i.e. only graphical options that can be accessed through the Options and Advanced Options menus).

If we get Weapon/Class balance and actual meaningful Optimization on the Day 2, this could be the best TF2 Update ever.

This is the competitive update we were waiting for?

Don't get me wrong, I was hyped but I can't help it but feel... disappointed. Especially compared to the pressure OW is bringing.

Lets be honest here this update doesn't really change much for any of us (us being the seasoned 6s players) We still got ETF2L and ESEA. This just helps the pubbers get into comp more then anything.

neato

the casual mode is actually a much bigger deal than it might seem. it really helps TF2 get away from the hat simulator mindset and into the competitive skill-based mindset.

i assume tomorrow they're gunna drop all the balance changes and nitty gritty details, can't wait. also thankful that i don't have to update yayahud for another day, since i've got shit to do today.

Well... I expected no banned weapons, but 2 class limit would seem... reasonable.
