They just received the money now? So we are actually going to send twice the amount of kids to the camp next year? Guess we'll have to raise extra money to extend the camp then!

!rtd matches sound fun, but you'd need to make a mod that !rtds for the players so they don't have to constantly chat while playing.

hey i got the response from mike uyama (the guy who runs the *GDQ charity speedrun marathons)

in response about the donation tracker they use:

The source is publicly available here: https://github.com/uraniumanchor/sda-donation-tracker-2

Getting it up and running on a sever can be a bit of a pain, but its doable. If you have a reasonably talented server admin, I can try to walk you through it at some point.

Alternatively, by March we may actually have a better set-up to allow other people to use our server (its kind of a long-term goal of mine to make this into a public web-service), but that depends on a lot of factors (i.e. how much progress we can make development-wise in that time). Otherwise, you'd have to talk to CoolMatty since its his server.

I have an idea!

SUPER SMASH FORTRESS CAMPAIGN MODE

This would basically be a tf2 adaptation of the classic mode in ssbm. An invite team would try and make their way through a bunch of gimmicky opponents on various levels. Since the invite team will only have 6 people on it, lots of viewers can play at the same time. The cool thing about this is that people get to watch high level players deal with weird stuff, and you could get viewers to donate in order to play against them.

Here are some "stages" i thought of.
1. invite team vs bat only scouts. cp_dustbowl.
2. invite team vs plog m+m1 pyros. cp_granary
3. invite team vs shotgun only heavies. cp_badlands.
4. invite team vs battlemedics. cp_gravelpit
5. invite team vs minisentry engies. cp_snakewater.

problems with this idea that I can think of:
1. people not playing as they're supposed to. hopefully having to donate to participate will lessen the number of hilarious trolls xd

Can the boss fight be a Invite-caliber Superteam made by fanvote?

The idea sounds potentially interesting (/hilarious), but I'm not as sure about some of the stages you came up with. Like, I don't think battle Medics would really do that well.

Following up on Kurt's post, I did indeed go to a Cubs game with 150 campers and their families from OneStepCamp. I was in Chicago visiting my Dad, and I figured I should try and introduce myself to the OneStep guys as they are also based in Chicago. I contacted Jeff Infusino, the president of Children's Oncology Services, and he immediately invited me to join them at the game. He gave me two tickets, one for me & one for my Dad.

The seats were absolutely incredible, as you can see from some of the tweets I sent out during the game [1][2]. Shortly after my Dad and I got settled in, Jeff came by and introduced himself. He was extremely thankful for everything that Tip of the Hats did, and he was eager to introduce me to other people in the organization. Unfortunately I'm not the best with names so I don't remember everyone's name, but one of the people I met was Katie Weil, a grant writer for the organization. I also met one of the board members. I got to speak with each of them for 15-20 minutes, and they were super nice and genuine folks. They were so grateful for Tip of the Hats, and they were also excited to get to tell me more about their programs.

I learned that OneStep actually hosts 11 camps throughout the year, though their original summer camp is by far their largest. They also have camps for families and siblings of the campers, to help them cope with and understand what these kids are going through, and also to just have some fun and get their minds off it for a while. OneStep has a very well thought-out set of programs and it shows how much care and effort they put into everything they do. They are a small & tight-knit group, much like us. We definitely chose the right group to support with our fundraiser.

OneStep are more than willing to try and help us with anything we may need, and TotH will try and work much more closely with them this time around. TotH 1 was good, but we learned a lot and know how much better we can make TotH 2.

P.S.: Thank you for looking into the *GDQ donation tracker, Fox! This will be an enormous help. I'll look into setting it up and I'll contact Mike Uyama if I need any assistance.

Here's my idea

It would be a sort of invite pug except with a twist. I kinda talked about it in another thread but then it kinda popped into my head that TotH would be the perfect place to run it.

Basically grab as many invite players as you can, ideally 54 players, and have them all gathered for the event. You'd then have either the highest bidder or some sort of ticket (i.e. 1 tickets for like 100$ max 4 tickets (since you can't run that many)). You then have the people who bought into the event act as the picking captain for their team. They wouldn't play but they would pick their players. In my opinion, the dota picking is the best way to do it.

2 bans
2 picks
2 bans
2 picks
1 ban
1 pick

You can either have it as winning captain stays, sonme tournament style or just different matchups with each ticket granting you 1 go at it. I don't know it would be fun as fuck and I'm sure certain people would pay for expensive tickets or just run it as a raffle. The strategy of trying to pick apart your opponents team with bans while also picking a good one yourself.

eGO would be interested in helping out, and I could get another Free-4-All type event set up to help out and bring something new to the table. Im sure you guys, lange truk killing enigma etc. dont know much about it but there was a lot of support from the tf2 community with it and think it could help bring in some more attention to ToTH2. Lemme know and we can chat or something, i am friends with whisker

Foxhey i got the response from mike uyama (the guy who runs the *GDQ charity speedrun marathons)

in response about the donation tracker they use:The source is publicly available here: https://github.com/uraniumanchor/sda-donation-tracker-2

I'd like some feedback on another idea to start collecting item donations for TotH 2.

Would anyone be at all interested in a a system where if you donated an Unusual or promo item we could do a budcast of your match(or scrim I guess.)

I don't know how popular it would be, I don't want to make it like donate a refined and I'll cast your game because I don't want to do 1000 casts, BUT I realize donating an unusual or something to have a game casted might be asking a lot, however I think if even 1 person donates it might be worth it.

So anyways I will try to iron out the particulars and outline the process in a future post but I wanted some feedback on this idea to streamline it or improve it.

Let me know.

Idea: What if we had a map made for the event similar to koth_lakeside_event, but instead of the halloween theme it's like an mix of the major TF2 art styles with a dose of pyrovision. And whenever the control point is capped it rolls for slapstick effects such as trains barreling through the map or every player gets Robin Walker's Rocket Launcher.

On top of that we get a caster to play the Announcer role and get Valve to add a map stamp for it which goes to One Step.

Somehow this idea sounded a lot better in my head than typed out... :-/

After 12am, I'm guessing truktruk is going to leave his computer on streaming the autodirect?

If for some reason the computer crashes it should be set to restart and autostart TF2/join server/start streaming again through some magical batch scripting combined with TF2 scripting, if that's possible

I've done it before with an old laptop running a minecraft server, although that was much simpler..

I don't know why I think this will work, but what about a TF2 All Star (like on NBA), where you got a west coast team vs the east coast team, both 6v6 and 9v9 (if even possible, or just one).

#84: It's pretty much already planned - there's a West Coast NA vs EU event for both 6v6 and highlander in the tentative schedule. It's not marked as all-stars but one assumes that the two continents will try to put the best players available into those events.
