It's too bad they can't take 10% of that effort and write a paragraph about TF2 LAN finals on the front page of that website ;)

#188 i52 - great event, disgraceful viewers in Off Topic
Teapot_Also, I still don't see how trash talk and borderline assault is comparable.

lol ok I wasn't going to post in this thread because it's ridiculous, but this tops it. Seagull was by no means in any form of physical danger when coleman was screaming next to him. In fact, I was basically watching the whole time and he never laid a finger on him. Kaidus was the closest person to seagull, and likely from coleman's demeanor kaidus was sort of "backed into a corner" and might have brushed against seagull. In fact, I thought seagull was going to get hit when he put his hand on coleman's shoulder to try to tell him to calm down or whatever, which is something you definitely don't want to do to a drunk person whom you don't even know. Coleman still didn't even touch him and was actually much less aggressive than a lot of people would've been in the same situation.

This was blown entirely out of proportion, and I think this thread says more about the community than this little incident ever has.

#6 soldier/demo looking in Recruitment (looking for team)

Good friend, teammate, and comic relief. Mackey-esque medic picks and overall solid DM player. Pick this dude up or we will replace Blaze!

#698 MAJOR TF2 update for 6/18/14 (6/19/14, Love & War) in TF2 General Discussion

To be entirely fair, saying "hit more pipes" is easier said than done. Demo has never been my cup of tea. By far it's been my worst class in a competitive setting. I could never quite grasp stickies, leaving my only weapon in most fights to be a pipe launcher, which is far more random than a lot of you are making it out to be. I'm pretty "good" with pipes, just because directs are something I've practiced across multiple games. But unlike Quake, TF2 has a much more lenient approach to movement. A scout jumping to the right, and accidentally slipping off his strafe key, could hit spacebar to double jump and just fly up and down or in a random direction he didn't intend, leaving the pipe that would have been close or hit to look like a joke.

This isn't implying prediction is inherently bad. Even hitscan in this game is slightly prediction based. For hitscan to be entirely "aim no prediction" (not sure what that means exactly??), human reaction time would have to be instantaneous. "Tracking" something with a shotgun is both prediction and reaction time. If characters in this game could teleport (think Goku instant transmission) at random times, all scouts would miss because they predicted the soldier to move in one of 4 directions or to continue moving in one direction, instead of teleporting across the map. But it's even worse with pipes. No doubt will pipes be used more and demos will be better at reading movement and connecting them. However, they're far too prediction based to be relied upon in a lot of situations. At certain distances and in certain circumstances, it becomes an educated guess, especially if the scout or soldier is trying to make his movement wonky.

I can't help but think there are much better ways to nerf a demo (like less stickies). Aside from reverting the update, the only redemption I could see at this point is making pipes fly and land in a linear fashion. If demos could shoot pipes across the ground without differentiated rotations and landings, they could turn pipes into pseudo rockets or stickies, lessening the prediction a bit.

#23 A Great Season for AG in TF2 General Discussion

I'd like to say that the only reason I played main this season was because of the 2-roster invite rule. After I left that team, I joined iT as a backup and realized that I was quite literally locked out of playing the game (unless iT decided to cut someone and give me a spot). Pretty dissatisfied with the way the season went, I wanted to play main as a class in which I didn't have much experience. It was really fun and I'm sorry to anyone who thought I was sand-bagging or trying to get money. I just wanted to play after I could no longer watch that.

GGs to both Rent-a-Homies and Street Hoops. Playing both teams taught me a lot about pocket.

It still confuses me as to why people call this team watch this. It isn't and there's a reason their name on their team page isn't watch this. The appearance of milo doesn't suddenly make it "watch this," although he did carry the team.

It'll definitely get you more viewers, but at the end of the day just confuses people.

harbleuHildrethUS is bigger than Europe and slightly more expensive, but for a country that prides itself for doing things bigger and better than any other nation on earth, it shouldn't be a problem right?you do know that nobody besides rednecks and idiots actually believes that, right? also did you just try to imply that pride will help pay the extra amount it costs to attend lan here? i'll have to let them know that next time i book my flight.

#134 ESEA and CEVO in TF2 General Discussion
SaxualContentdummyCompetition at the very top will die without a LAN. All the big plays and great matches you see on LAN are a product of the LAN environment. That level of play isn't happening online.
I dont agree. sure, a 0 ping environment allows and does produce some crazy shit. will exciting, high level play die without it? hell no. will people stop being interested in the game because there's no super exciting high skill glorious lan to watch? i don't think so
consider our last qf-fest of a lan. as i recall, some of the matches we got from late im and late open playoffs were way more exciting and skill intense than that.

i guess my point is: 'big plays' and 'high level play' aren't nonexistent in online environments, and aren't guaranteed in offline environments.

His point is that when he plays TF2 online he uses half a real computer and you can't possibly expect there to be an even playing field between two teams when one team could easily have higher ping, worse FPS, or whatever. No one wants to invest time and money into a game when there isn't potential for a fair test of skill (LAN). If I were dummy I would never dedicate my time to a game to see if I could be the best team if I knew the finals would have me playing on my wooden computer against 6 players with lightboost monitors. Even if he bought a computer (a lot of money), his ping is high and ping makes an enormous difference. If you imagine a finals game with two evenly matched teams, you don't want ping and hardware being the difference maker. And that's one of the main arguments for LAN, no matter which game you play.

If people are making the move to CEVO, blaze will be teamless. Unless you enjoy playing with a 120 ping soldier during finals. (I'm kidding everyone knows blaze is always good). The point is, he's definitely not as good as he is when everyone has the same ping. And that's a real concern. You don't want to be forced to play with players with good pings.
