#23 ESEA playoff schedule in TF2 General Discussion

I think the teams should sacrifice consistency in games where money is on the line to satisfy the spectators.

Honestly still dunno about the povs leading up to the GF.

Only TLR, Harb, Shade, Cyzer, Plat, Pyyyyyour, enigma and ruwin POVs in there.

~.~

Why are you complaining? All of mixup is there!

I should have all my demos.

***Unfortunately that doesn't mean I have all the maps or rounds as recording slipped my mind a few times.

#16 Reminder: i46 Frag Vid Contest Ends Oct 15th in TF2 General Discussion

Why don't you guys just pick one really good editor who's down for the job and pay them $200 for it? It's probably best to get this out as soon as feasibly possible while i46 is still fresh in everyone's minds. You want this video to be a representation of the TF2 community, not a reminiscent video from an event 5 months ago. I'm sure even if it were 5 months late people would find it cool, but definitely much, much cooler and relevant if it's released soon.

Talk to well known and respected editors (Torn Productions, for instance) and see who is willing to make the movie. Honestly, the publicity for a movie about the biggest thing TF2 has ever experienced and $200 is pretty good motivation.

Edit: everything in this post is while under the impression that almost no one or no one at all has contributed to the contest. But this still applies if you get submissions that aren't exactly up to par.

#18 DPI? in Q/A Help

phoon's old website used to have a great explanation for this. Essentially if you use a generally high sensitivity, it's useful to have your dpi set to a higher number. otherwise, let's say you have a 6" 360, you could potentially notice that your cursor will skip a number of pixels even when moving as little as possible. However, the usefulness of using high dpi to avoid pixel problems ends when your sensitivity is generally pretty low to begin with, especially because a high dpi and a low sensitivity is a recipe for negative mouse acceleration. I'm pretty sure raw input makes this a nonissue, however. Before raw input was released, ~12" 360 and higher with something like 1800 dpi would have negative acceleration issues.

so general rule of thumb for me would be if you use a generally low sens, don't bother with raising dpi. if your sensitivity is pretty high, however, it's useful to use a higher dpi to minimize problems with pixels.

#164 rip tf2 invite in TF2 General Discussion

I don't know where the arguments have led us, but I perused a bit and one thing is for certain: Leaders on high-level teams need to take chances on upcoming players. Whether the issue is that the players have poor networking or the leaders just feel more confident in older players, it really hurts the influx of top players. Ben and I were talking about this in some sense a few weeks ago. The worst mindset a top player can have is one in which he disregards a loss to someone in MGE or chooses not to realize the consistency of some players in DM just because they're in invite and these petty mods have no bearing on skill. Let's face it, MGE breeds a lot of bad egos, but in my mind DM is the first thing that can take you far in this game. With Yz50 and myself, tyrone picked us up knowing we had great DM and knowing that as far as the flow of the game went, we were pretty oblivious. It was after playing and practicing with the team that we got a firm grasp on the game.

I'm sure there are a ton of great players in MGE and DM (in fact, I've been DMing quite a bit lately and some people really surprise me) who are, for whatever reason, forgotten about. It could certainly be their fault for not trying to assert themselves and not networking well enough to become close with invite players. But something needs to be done to get good players in better positions. My recommendation is that if you feel like you've got great aim, try to befriend a top player. Work your way up, because all the recruiting is done through circle-jerking, and to be fair, it makes sense -- you want to play with friends.
