Not like I'm particularly against weed, I think weed is as harmful as alcohol, but there's this friend of mine that has been into that sort of thing for the past 3 months or so. Like I wouldn't care if she did that shit like once every 2 months but I can tell shes getting addicted to it, and it is affecting many aspects of her life. Should I intervene and steer her in the right direction and if so what can I do as a friend

How often does she smoke? how many grams/week does she use? as long as she's not doing it all day every day she'll be ok. i have a couple stoner friends that function perfectly fine, finished college, work 40/h week and their social life is fine, it's really not nearly as bad as alcohol.

just wanted to say alcohol is 100000x worse then weed, people die because alcohol people dont die when they smoke weed they get hungry. you cant get addicted to weed like thats fucking dumb. she prolly got some stress in her life and trying to relax or just be happier, i think you just need to calm down and smoke some your self my man. also trying to forcefully steer someone in the direction you want and not what she wants will make her very angry at you.

but theres a really big middle ground between need to be high 24/7 to function, and smoking once every couple months

Being as I'm partially fueled by alcohol - it ain't so bad. "They say alcohol is a slow killer, but who is in a hurry?"

That said, if you disapprove of somebody's choice to smoke marijuana for whatever reason, simply state to them that you'd rather not be around them when they do it and that you'd also rather not hear about it/know about it and leave it at that. It's not your job to nanny people - and most people wont listen to you anyways.

For real though, saying you can't get addicted to weed is like saying you can't get addicted to video games (I mean look at all of us), sure you won't have terrible physical withdrawal symptoms but the mental addiction is as real as anything else.
Being someone who goes to a sixth form college with a high percentage of burnout stoners it's quite obvious that smoking ridiculous amount every day doesn't exactly lead you into great places.
But if she's only smoking sometimes then it's not really your job to stop her. If it gets to the point where she noticably starts dropping in other aspects of her life then it would probably be a decent idea to talk to her about it, and as you say she seems like she's getting "addicted" so maybe now would be a decent time. I wouldn't be too worried though.
I guess keep an eye on them but don't get super stressed about it. Many of my friends from school have started getting into this shit, but hey there's not much I can do about it so w/e

It's none of your business what choices she makes whether you agree or not and making it the business of anyone on TFTV willing to listen isn't going to provide you and sort of solution. Even if you talk to her in my experience of people with addiction is they go through different stages and anything you say is unlikely to magically solve her problems.

If you really wanted to do something that'd make the difference for good or bad, tell her parents / get authorities involved - But that's really drastic but if you're under the illusion you can just put her to one side give her some real talk and solve all her problems you're deluded.

Just move on with life.

I think you should address the root cause, not the actual substance.

Usually when people are escaping a lot, there's a reason for it. Most people enjoy chilling out every once in a while and that's nothing to be worried about, but I always think if someone's drinking heavily every evening there's probably some issue, and it's the same for weed.
Consider that it may be the same thing that's affecting their life, that is making them want to smoke all the time. You don't necessarily know what's going on behind the scenes.

If you don't understand and acknowledge the root, then to the person it just comes across as preachy and will probably piss them off, there's nothing you can say about weed the person doesn't already know, so what's the point?
If you're close enough then you can try to ask what's up and see how you can support her, if you're not really close enough to do that, then you're not close enough for the smoking habits to be your business anyway.

I got used to smoke it everyday but when I quit I didnt feel like I had the urge to smoke again, I just did it because it helped me to sleep (I know there are other methods but whatever makes me happy) besides if you do a HUGE research, weed is FAR from being as harmful as alcohol or tobacco, you honestly shouldnt worry that much and let them do their lives. When I heard my 1st gf also started smoking weed I was really scared too but I learned to cope with that. You should worry more if they get in some kind of legal issues since its an illegal substance.

It does get some people really addicted though, but again not as much as alcohol or tobacco since its main component is THC, unlike cigarettes which not only contain nicotine but other toxic substances that enhance the addiction. Be also aware that some asshole providers add some other chemicals to their strains to get people more addicted so they keep buying more. But again, you shouldnt worry much about what "harm" can cause them and worry more about their contacts or what legal issues can cause.

Spuyo who this man that is downfragging every post that states alcohol/tobacco is more harmful than weed?

idk but some people should be aware that also some strains can hurt your throat (but again not as much as cigs), that's why some people rather smoke using filters when making a joint like myself (also it helps me not to cough because my neighbors wake up and they are fucking snitch af).

And again, some people can create a huge depedance to weed, at it also depends on what kind of strain they smoke or what other substances your provider can pount into them.

I'm not saying marijuana is good since again the main issue is that its illegal, but I never encourage someone to try it if they have not done it, neither tell them to stop smoking if they do it non stop.

The problem is also that there's a story that you can search up (its a short story I'm not gonna type it here) of how marijuana became such a taboo throughout the years, again its nowhere near as harmful as other "legal" drugs.

I've noticed on the last few threads that were made someone went through and downfragged every comment. So it could just be that retard.

I feel like I should probably add that age plays a huge roll in this. I started smoking weed at 14, and did it a LOT. While marijuana isn't nearly as harmful as alcohol, use of any mind altering substance below the age of 16, (I think it's technically closer to early twenties but 16 represents a drastic drop off in harmful side effects, don't quote me on that though) can be very detrimental to your friend's development. I also feel people underestimate the problems in your home life drug use can cause for adolescents. Getting high isn't necessarily worth ruining your relationship with your parents.

So I'll reiterate, if you're a kid you should probably not do that shit. If you're nearing the end of adolescents/ beginning of adulthood and your drug use isn't impacting your day to day productivity, you're fine. Either way telling your friend to stop likely won't do shit, so you should consider fucking off regardless
