Probably not unless you got a extremely good deal on a used one. Better off getting a R5 1600/1700.
The 6700k is not compatible with your current motherboard or ram so you will need to replace those if you upgrade.

R5 1600 $214.99 on newegg.
Motherboards are cheaper if you are looking to OC and it comes with a decent enough stock cooler that has some OC headroom.

are you going to use your computer just for gaming? or are you planning on doing some content creation (video making, streaming)?

1. Why a 6700K and not a 7700K?
2. Unless the 16 GB RAM you purchased are DDR4, unusable with the 3570K (in which case why the fuck did you buy them?), they will not be compatible with any new CPU.
3. For streaming a 1600/1700 is guaranteed to be better than a 6700K/7700K.
4. Mobos that allow for overclocking the 6700K/7700K are guaranteed to be more expensive.
5. For a 6700K/7700K you will also have to buy a cooler.
6. A 6700K/7700K is guaranteed to be more expensive than a 1600.

So unless you're going to use it for something where a 6700K/7700K would actually be faster you're just going to pay a lot more for less.
Your money though, I can send you my paypal adress if you need to get rid of some.

im in a similar position, looking to upgrade an i5-2500k @4.5GHz potentially this summer, games (tf2 mainly) and streaming (with nvenc atm but x264 would be nice for tftv at least). worth going for a 1600? i'd probably be manually overclocking and from what ive seen the 1600 and 1600x overclock very similarly which basically makes them identical

It's the best way to convince people. You just need
1. Facts.
2. A list.

Yes, all Zen CPUs run into the same wall at ~4.0 GHz so if you're going to oc might as well take the free cooler and save money twice.

I don't think it'll make much of a difference for TF2 though. The additional cores won't do anything, higher IPC (if we get to see any of that, because TF2) is offset by lower clockspeeds, larger cache might be offset by higher latency to RAM or even end up slightly worse. I'd have to benchmark, but I'm not going to build a new pc just to benchmark TF2.

Streaming with NVENC doesn't use the CPU.

So only the x264 streaming would benefit.

Depending on your budget Coffee Lake might be worth waiting for (especially 6 cores).
7700K would be higher IPC + higher clocks with OC, but all in all only 30% single threaded, not sure if you think it's worth it for that price. Multithreaded a bit more due to 8 threads, but obviously still nowhere near 6c/12t.
7800X no idea how well it overclocks. ST it'll be between the 1600 and 7700K, MT better than either.
7820X might actually be close to the 7700K ST, 600$ though.
With Coffee Lake we might finally see high end ST on a 6 core at a reasonable price.

So what's the reasoning behind that purchase?

cheers, i'll probably do some research on ryzen x264 streaming and decide whether to wait for coffee lake or not. if it can stream x264 on a decent preset and maintain 60fps in game then it might be worth it for me. better performance in newer threaded games like gta 5 or witcher 3 would be a nice bonus too

Then it's DDR3, not DDR4.
And that means it's not going to fit on a new mobo for a new CPU. Can't have both.
