Welp, after a lot of nosleep nights, over 100 commits and visual and functional improvements, cfg.tf has finally turned into a separate project I put a lot of effort and a bit of money in. All started with this around a mounth ago, and now I'm finally proud to present the first in the world open-source TF2 customization hub! It is still just the same config generator, but we now also serve server configs and have plans for more stuff. I started saying "we" because a lot of people have contributed to this site by commiting directly as well as by suggesting improvements and providing high quality feedback.

Since the last update (old thread), we have added a bit of features:

  • The server config generator is now here. Still in kind of a beta state, but it works.
  • The server cfg geneator also allows you to include the lastest league configs out of the box
  • There is an ability to include TFTrue now. Also, you can easily set all the core settings like Logs.tf API token and custom whitelist id out of the box. More addons coming soon.
  • The site has now a fancy main page with a bit reworked design. I've added several partner links to the main page, - tf.gg, whitelist.tf, KritzKast, comp.tf, hit.tf (tell me if you want yours here). I'm looking for any help on this site's promotion. Tell your friends and parents they can now make TF2 configs by typing a super short and fancy URL in their browser!

To-do: add more articles. Still looking for a decent wall of text explaining network settings. If you know something good that is related to TF2 customization of any kind - let me know. If hit.tf creator will help me, I think we may add a full hit.tf support with all the hitsounds presenting there. Welp, lots of plans, lots of work, but I think that we'll make it over time.

Sorry for my terrible english, I'm a bit nervous about all this stuff, so thats it. As usual, all the feedback is extremely welcome. Also, we now have a Discord server, where I will post all the updates, and todos. I will still keep this topic updated with most of the updates, but it is easier to do it there.

Site looks really nice. Likely getting my first server soon so this should be extremely useful. Thanks for your work!

Edit: Is there a chance you could add the ESEA configs to the server league configs?

i like the interface and this is incredibly helpful because I plan on getting a server again and setting everything up before was a pain in the butt.

This is an incredible idea, never had it on my mind. A page to host all top players' custom folders, hell yes.

Sure thing. I failed to find them with a quick google search, if someone can post a link here, I would be very happy.

I had issues finding the ESEA config too, but found this list made by Stochast1c. It is 2 years old though, so I'm not sure if it's out of date. I did notice the command "tf_preround_push_from_damage_enable 1" is missing, but there could be more.

Is Rhapsody's really that unused? Everywhere I hear about Comanglia and TF2Mate, and here I am with Rhapsody's, known but hardly ever talked about.

AnyarIs Rhapsody's really that unused? Everywhere I hear about Comanglia and TF2Mate, and here I am with Rhapsody's, known but hardly ever talked about.

iirc Rhapsody's became equal to Comanglia's in terms of raw performance pretty quickly, but Comanglia's got recommended more because it's a lot simpler to install (and not have to fiddle with the file itself).

It's not unused, from what I've seen it looks like the most popular alternative to Chris's and Comanglia's, but it's not as standard.

Wow! this is actually awesome. Idk if you can add this but maybe add custom binds for each class like class.cfg stuff in the custom binds place? Great work on the website!

We have now moved to Cloudflare/https. Also fixed several broken links and issues.

If you are a top level player, please consider sharing your custom folder here or on Discord (or if you know where I can find all that stuff). I'm starting to collect data for a premade custom content repository. Currently will try to collect some from twitch channel descriptions.

Edit: I've added a notice about this to the main page, I doubt high level players will bother anyway, but we'll see.

Suddenly someone on reddit linked me to this gem. Most configs are proably old, but oh my god, thats a lot of them. Actually, there are even some configs uploaded in 2017.

EroticFishCake"Error: Ajax error for ../make/snd/UT.wav : 206 Partial Content" I get this error when i try to generate the config. Help anyone?

I got the error as well, probably because I selected the Unreal Tournament hitsound as custom hitsound. It happened with the Quake 3 hitsound as well. After removing it everything worked.

This has been reported multiple times. I tried 6 different computers from dirfferent IPs and could not replicate the problem at all. I've changed some settings now, the problem may be gone but I'm not sure because I can't check it myself. Could you try again and tell me if it works now?

I tried it again and it gave me the same error.
"Error: Ajax error for ../make/snd/UT.wav : 206 Partial Content"
So I don't think the change of setting fixed it.

EDIT: I tested it again but this time in Chrome not Firefox and it worked. Even after disabling all add-ons in Firefox I still got the error. Therefore the problem seems to have to do with the choice of browser.

Is there anyway to you can generate a config where you have min viewmodels for your primary/secondary, but you have normal viewmodels for your melee?

thats a neat idea, gotta rework crosshair switcher a bit but it is definitely possible
edit: looks like it is already done, will make an update soon

Later than I promised, but here it is.

Rather huge site update:

thanks to xiyzzc for contributing:

  • The footer was reworked with proper bootstrap columns so that its responsive on small screens
  • Slight frontpage rework
  • Config preview rework. Configs currently have a slideshow of 5 pl_badwater images, and pros/cons are 2 columns underneath.
  • Added Felik's "Low End", "Eye Candy" configs
  • Config images are lazy loaded with unveil.js so that the user doesn't download them all at once. Loading triggers from the dropdown selection. - Minor text rework
  • Fixed a bug when Firefox users could not generate configs with hitsound files indluded

Funtionality improvements 2.2:

  • Added a binds section where you can easily manage your key settings / added an option to NOT bind anything for other than QWERTY keyboard users
  • Added CastingEssentials addon
  • Added an option to set up a toggle bind for viewmodels
  • Added an option to use left-handed viewmodels
  • Added a small config database

Minor fixies:

  • Fixed broken slider
  • Improved shadows on the landing page
  • Removed duplicate hitsound
  • Polished desctiptions for some settings, added compatibility notices
