Hey guys,

First game is scheduled to kick off today at 3pm EST.
What are your thoughts/predictions?

Today: France vs Romania
I'm personally not too impressed with the French team to take it all but who knows what can happen when you have home field advantage.

Germany has a strong squad but this year has no clear favourite IMO.

Favourites: Spain/France/Germany/Belgium

Dark horses: Croatia/Italy/Portugal

Predicted flops: England (Sorry my British friends)

if you think ronaldo will ever perform well at the international stage, i would just like to remind you of the 2014 world cup where he was too egotistical to take one of the first 4 penalties and effectively got your nation knocked out. Ronaldo is not a big game player, look at every champions league final hes played in for Real.

alright you first mentioned possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard about one of the undisputed best penalty takers in the world (convenient this is from 2014 btw, best penalty conversion rate in la liga history, at 93%) being "too egotistical" to take a penalty, lmao, I mean, if you have the best in the world at something it makes sense you use it to your advantage, otherwise you're literally stupid. But then you called him rolando so I'm pretty sure you're a troll.

Not to mention he carried Real Madrid to the CL final with 16 goals in the competition and singlehandedly getting them past Wolfsburg with an hattrick while also achieving the second best goalscoring record ever in Champions league history only behind, you guessed it, Ronaldo again with 17 goals 2 years before. Guess who also who the CL that year, Real madrid.

Nice try tho.

England always seems strong but always fails, I expect this time to be the same.
Glad to see people see us as favourites :)
I dont see a clear #1 this year, as Spain was some years ago. Maybe Belgium or Croatia will create a big upset.

(France to win. Or Germany)

yes kaneco as much as i appreciate that he has the CL record, my point is that he is not a big game player hence why he was completely irrelevant in the CL final. Also you are proving my point, with that kind of penal record (93%), surely he would be the number 1 penalty taker resulting in almost a guarantee goal. At no point did i ever suggest he isnt an incredible player (probably the most complete ever) i still think that ronaldo wont do in on the international stage. Many great players havent done this, for example look at the english euro 2004 team. This team features some of the biggest names in footballing history such as rooney, lampard, gerrard, terry. None of these players did it, and i feel ronaldo wont either. I apologise if i offended you as youre portuguese, i just think ronaldo wont do it on the international stage, lets see if he proves me wrong :)

cookie the ratio at which he performs to not (in a big match) is actually surprising for how good he is, also no offense but playing sweden in the qualifiers isnt the same as performing against a top 4 euro team.

2-1 against Romania, that's what I would call a pretty underwhelming result.
Hopefully France will turn up against bigger opponents.

france has the best roster overall but something tells me theyll choke it away in like a 1-0 or 2-1 semifinal where giroud and whoever just cant finish to save their lives

im really excited for belgium tbh, they were actually stealth sick at the world cup and de bruyne/lukaku have only gotten better since then

I was beyond salt when France lost to Germany at the quarter-finals, but they were the better team. However, I believe that this year is our year!!! Not the greatest start, but it's still a win.

I would like to remind u fellow european that other european countries are still other countries and the champions league is in fact an international tournament and he plays well in it. Ronaldo plays almost exclusively on the international stage.

As for the 2014 penalty, I watched the game and heard people say the exact thing and I was completely confused then, and I'm confused people still say the same thing. First of all, Ronaldo may have a big ego, but he is not "egotistical" in a way that would ever be detrimental to his efforts. He really wants Portugal to win. Secondly, why would one of the greatest penalty takers choose not to take a penalty? I told everyone then that it was obviously either a coach or team decision and I heard it was indeed the next day. The penalty in question was to break even and I guess they expected it to work out. Ronaldo was supposed to take the next penalty which would've been the shot to win the game. It was a poor decision, but it certainly wasn't his.

On that note, I'd really love Portugal to win this thing for one and the current team looks promising. Germany also has a truly sick team though and are going for the double gold. Will root for both as long as possible.
Just pls whatever happens, Italy pls go, I'll never forgive u for 2006

I mean it's fine to have an opinion but that opinion is factually wrong. You don't get to be arguably one of the Top3 players of all time, top Champions League scorer of all time, Top Real Madrid Goalscorer of all time, win 4 European Golden Shoes, and 3 Ballon d'Or for not being a big game player, that's simply bullshit and factually wrong.

He has been carrying the national team on his back as far as I can remember, and if anything we only didn't accomplish more because our team was complete shit the last few years, we haven't really had a good national team since the Euro 2004 era with Figo, Rui Costa, Deco, where we unfortunately lost the final at home.. This is the one tournament I can honestly say we have a really solid team in all aspects and our midfield is completely stacked with talent like Moutinho, Danilo, William carvalho, Renato Sanches, andré gomes, etc... This is our year. We have great supporting players to give Ronaldo exactly what he needs.

kaneco you really dont understand what i mean. Yes ronaldo is one if not the best player in the world im not bashing him for his insane club goal scoring record, he is one of the greatest ever. But when it comes to the World cup finals and European cup finals he hasnt performed at all. I have no idea how you can call bullshit and say that im factually wrong. In the 2014/2010/2006 world cup he scored a total 3 goal the combined 3 tournaments. 1 goal per tournament sounds quite terrible for one of the best players ever. In the 2008/2004 he scored a combined total of 3 goals. How on earth is 1 goal a tournament "carrying the national team on his back as far as I can remember". It is a completely factually correct to say that ronaldo has choked in these 5 international finals, and i dont see why this one will be different. He hasnt proven himself as one of the greats for his national side is all im saying. When i said on an international stage i meant quite literally playing for his nation in a world/euro cup. Just because youve done it for your club doesnt mean you have done it for your nation.

A true carry is someone like the Brazilian Ronaldo. In the 2002/1998 world cup he scored a combined 12 goals (6 goals per tournament, 6 times cristiano's stats). He has won 2 world cups and in the other he won the golden ball. (where he had a fit before the final against france). This sounds like "carrying" to me, if you still believe cristiano ronaldo carries portugal you clearly are just fan-gaying over him because hes portuguese.

Fuck the euros who cares anyway see you at the world cup in 2016. I'm not mad we didn't qualify for a fucking 24 team euros. Not even slightly.

But Germany and France have the best squads but France will choke in the quarters or the semis. Italy will win, beating Germany 2-1 in finals.
