I had this crazy idea one day of using a driving wheel's accelerator pedal to talk. Since I'm poor and don't own one, I plugged in an old ps2 controller adapter and used joy2key to make the analog sticks configurable in mumble. So I press my foot down on the stick basically (that's on the floor!) and it toggles my ptt in mumble. Another, albeit crazy, option for you :D

Maybe use control as your push to talk? I believe you can also have more than 1 push to talk button so maybe having 2 different ptt buttons can help

In S18 I switched to PTT because I knew I couldn't use voice activation at lan. I had a hard time getting used to it, so I searched for alternatives. I tried using a cheap usb pedal from amazon, it was terrible, and broke in a week so i made one using a teensy 2.0 and a cm switch tester. Then someone made a pcb for it and now I have that on there instead of the teensy.

Techkeys has 1 and 3 key boards similar to the osu! 2 key boards, but they're usually sold out. They do have their programmable business card, which would do the same thing, it's just not in a case.
If you want to be a little creative, you can get a makey makey and make a button out of whatever the hell you want. You can use a banana for your ptt.

There are more expensive options like the stinky footboard but you probably don't want to spend $89.99. If you have an old razer mouse you can take the sensor out and bind the click in synapse to push to talk and use your foot.

I've been using alt to activate push to talk for a long long time and for me it's the best option
Spacebar is jump+crouch

RainofLightpendaclockwork used side mouse wheelwhat do you mean side mouse wheel

Some mice instead of (or in addition to) having the side mouse buttons let you "click" the mouse wheel left and right as mouse4 and mouse5.

I tried using side mouse wheel for a little bit... may have accidentally popped an uber at some point.

CLMP: did you see rains shitty thread about ptt
bullet: yes
CLMP: im 100% sure that having an awkward push to talk is NOT the reason that hes completely silent, always offclasses to sniper and feeds whenever he isnt

I use esdf and shift and space bar for crouch and jump respectively. However for push to talk I use V since my thumb can rest on it and press it while jumping at the same time. Just put the tip of your thumb on V and tilt your thumb to jump if you need to talk etc. But in all honesty just try to use voice activation. It's easier unless you have a noisy house or family like I do.

i use my left alt button for push to talk, just make sure that you unbind that key in tf2 or else you can't move when you are holding it down.

imo shift or capslock is probably the most optimal for push to talk. use shift/ctrl for crouch if you're used to the default key bindings for fps games. voice activation with a mute bind would probably be the only other option if you plan to use this setup at a lan.

plz dont make a google doc collecting every invite scouts push to talk bind :( just ask for advice and use what you prefer...

Here's ur little essay:

I used to use ptt (m4 or 5) on my da, but when I got an ec2a I switched to voice activation.

On the da, my thumb was almost exactly where the side buttons were, so it was pretty comfortable to use ptt. On the ec2a, unfotunately, they're slightly higher than where I would like to normally put my thumb. It got annoying to aim when I had to slightly adjust my grip, especially on hitscan classes when you need to be able to talk while shooting, not after.

I tried switching to alt, but I started to jump a lot less when talking while fighting. Similarly, with ptt's like r or f, I was not able to strafe exactly how I wanted while talking. I suppose shift or caps lock is the most practical ptt if you find your mouse buttons annoying, but I wanted to use shift to crouch instead of ctrl (at the moment, though, I've gotten used to using ctrl in other games, so I don't really care anymore), and I never tried using caps lock. It's basically the same thing as shift. I ended up just trying voice activation with a mute toggle (mouse 4) just to see what it was like.

There ended up not really being any downsides since it's the same thing as a ptt except it's more convenient; you don't have to adjust your grip if you use a slightly uncomfortable mouse button (or whatever your issue is with your particular ptt). However, I rarely even use my mute toggle (unless I'm at home and people are talking around me), because my $8 mic doesn't pick up my brown switches or any other extraneous noises.

It's also funny to leave myself unmuted when my brother is playing ow so people can hear him rage.

I'd say shift/caps lock/mouse buttons, but only if it's exactly where you want it (ptt) = shift/caps/mouse buttons/anything honestly (voice activation w/ mute toggle) > other ptt's

or a pedal if you have the money/equipment, like pharaoh mentioned.

my right hand puts in WORK

in reality i should probably use space for ptt, would be way more comfortable and less shit going on with my mouse hand
