Teams announced for DreamHack Summer by Sweetstakes.tf & Plantronics

June 4, 2016

We have the booth, we have the production team, we have the sponsors...I'm sure we're forgetting something. Oh the teams! You want to know the teams attending?!

Let's take a look at these fearless warriors, who will be clashing in Jonkoping, Sweden on the 18th & 19th June in the TF2 Invitational at DreamHack Summer by Sweetstakes.tf & Plantronics. With $3000 on the line and an amazing experience competing at the world's largest LAN event ahead, it's all to play for! Our four teams for this event are:

  • nameLess (qualified)
  • Perilous Gaming (qualified)
  • Crowns Esports Club (invited)
  • Comfortably Spanked (invited)

They will be competing in a BO3 double-elimination tournament over the course of the two days at the Esport United booth, who have kindly hosted us once again! The tournament itself is sponsored for $3000 by Sweetstakes.tf & Plantronics, and Plantronics are also providing us with their excellent noise-cancelling headphones for the players. The prizepool will be split as follows:

  • 1st: $1110
  • 2nd: $780
  • 3rd: $600
  • 4th: $510

The schedule and bracket will be posted at a later date, but all of the action will be caught live here at teamfortresstv by our on-site team. The maps, ruleset, and whitelist mirror the ETF2L Season 24 ruleset - so that means Reckoner rather than Sunshine.

Teams and Rosters

  • nameLess
    • Scout: Stark
    • Scout: Hafficool
    • Roamer: Drackk
    • Pocket: kaptain
    • Demoman: spudd
    • Medic: Permzilla

nameLess have been at the top of the European scene since i55, and have only lost three maps in that time. They are undeniably the best team in Europe at the moment, and go into this tournament the favourites to win. Their experience and individual skill have won them two ETF2L seasons; however with maincaller and star player kaidus moving to an analyst role before this tournament, nameLess do look noticeably weaker. After all, one of the only three maps they've ever lost was to bottom Premiership team PC Master Race last week. If an upset was ever on the cards, this is the time.

  • Perilous Gaming
    • Scout: Thalash
    • Scout: Astt
    • Roamer: Mike
    • Pocket: tek
    • Demoman: alle
    • Medic: kos

Of all the teams at the event, this modified version of the Perilous line-up has the most potential to upset nameLess and take the tournament. Having jettisoned Sideshow from the roster to sit alongside kaidus, the soldiers for Perilous form an awesome combo. They will have to perform at an excellent level despite a lack of LAN experience on alle, Astt, and Thalash to take the tournament, but it looks highly possible.

  • Crowns Esports Club
    • Scout: Beavern
    • Scout: atomic
    • Roamer: Thaigrr
    • Pocket: AMS
    • Demoman: Smirre
    • Medic: ondkaja

Crowns, previously known as Publiclir, formed at the last DreamHack tournament in November and put on a great show, taking Process in the first round from Reason Gaming (now nameLess). The roster has undergone a few changes since then, but the overall upgrades and LAN atmosphere could trigger a revival of that level of play. They have been struggling recently in online play but at LAN have never shown any signs of choking, and always seem to rise to the occasion as underdogs. The newly named Crowns will be attempting to win on home ground and take control of the DreamHack throne this time around.

  • Comfortably Spanked
    • Scout: Dennia
    • Scout: Hank
    • Roamer: T0m
    • Pocket: vani
    • Demoman: Setlet
    • Medic: skeej

Our dark horses for the tournament, Comfortably Spanked, are still getting to grips with their playstyle after bringing in the experienced vani on pocket. This season in Premiership they have managed to get points from all of their fixtures so far, tying LEGO on Process and beating PC Master Race on Badlands. While they certainly go into this tournament as underdogs, LAN is a totally different beast to online play. They'll be striving to take an upset victory over at least Crowns and carry that momentum on to later fixtures.

how is the prize pool being split up, and will there be a 3rd/4th place match?

Tomhow is the prize pool being split up, and will there be a 3rd/4th place match?

Double elimination naturally creates a 4th place match in the first round of the lower bracket, and the 3rd place gets decided in the LBF. I will add the prizepool split now, forgot about that.

Would be sick if we could get like 6 teams and maybe throw in an NA team? Would be cool to see 2 international tf2 lans a year.

Please contact Valve to promote this event (give them Poster + Info) via their Blog/News section and maybe have that fancy Notification in-game (just like during the ESEA finals) when Dreamhack or finals start.

Perilous, nameless, suave, serpents, ronin, froyotech.

There you go 6 top tier teams that would be an interesting tournament

Definitely worth spending an extra $30k per year on in travel and prizepool.

serpents was a low prem team btw

I do have to admit, SUAVE would really have made a cool addition. Maybe we can hope for the insomnia series since it's closer to War. Or SUAVE could just a new demo.... Depends where you stand on whether you actually like War. I just miss seeing smzi, rising, kiler and mirelin in prem. Don't mind me.

Serpents and most Russian teams I would disagree on being a top team. They have great players but never a top team. #tf2center would be a better team, and most of the ex-epsilon group isn't interested anymore. I'm actually okay with the current attendees and hope for an exciting Dreamhack.

barcaphilipEither way, Mike and Tek to carry. Hopefully Alle thalash and ast will gain enough experience from this lan so they can perform at a decent level at i58.

It's as if you assume that because it will be their first lan they will obviously experience a drop in performane compared to their standards. They might very well get used to it very quickly and play just fine, or even better than usual since some players just surpass themselves at lan, like clockwork for example.

Apparently alle has always played on a laptop with massive input lag so I expect him to pound at LAN.
