What was your first experience in competitive TF2?

Watched a lot of frag videos, and videos from i46. Played some tf2lobby and didn't really enjoy it that much since I was very new and lost, eventually got taken into a UGC 6's and HL team and learned on the fly. Did that for a couple of seasons, as well as the Tumblr vs Reddit event with Uberchain. Eventually I realized that I enjoyed watching and creating content for the scene more, since I didn't have the time to really concentrate on improving my game.

I think eXtv was the first I saw comp tf2. I played one lobby as medic on tf2lobby in like 2012 didn't know the heal order or anything lol, got re-interested in 2015 from watching Seagull oddly enough. Kinda wish I got involved earlier

I used to play a lot of pl_minepit on convict gaming before i got banned for using the pan to hit admins. I found tf2lobby and played scout. Decided it was fun and took on the journey that is being a scout main.

my friend and i watching frag vids and deciding to make a team of pub nobodies
i think the funnest part of comp is when you first start out and have no idea what you're doing

I didn't really know any better so I joined a random 6s iron team as a sub as their starter was on vacation in Spain for 2 matches. I played and did well. Our pocket then got banned from UGC because, this is what my leader told me, he was in IM. The scout in Spain came back and we shifted me to pocket. Spain scout wasn't the best but I didn't care that much until he cheated in a sunshine match. Then he got banned and then I moved back to scout and we picked up some guy for pocket. From that point onward I was forced to be on wireless because I moved rooms and it would take a while to get the wire to the router so I played with 150 ping usually as scout.

tl;dr it was a wild ride but i stayed for some reason

Posting a thread on the UGC HL forum looking for a team and getting no responses.

That's as far as it has gone.

Do lobbies count at all? Played 3 so far. Average heavy, crap pyro, pretty good as medic.

alfaIn 2008 I posted my 25 min long spy fragmovie on ETF2L and then KOEITJE (yes I still remember your fucking name) called me utter shit and told me to go away from ETF2L and that spy isn't a real class.

Must be a closeted pyro main :^)

My first comp game was a 6s scrim, and we got destroyed but it was nothing surprising since we were playing a much more experienced team.

my first HL game however, I had to play heavy and everyone got mad at me because I have less than 10 hours on that class and I didn't know what I was doing :(

a pub regular pointed out i46 to me and a bunch other regulars and we all got into mumble and watched it together and were instantly hooked. a month (roughly) later, we played our first hl + 6s games and our demo+ soldier (on both occasions) killed themselves on rollout, but god those first days were fun.

I discovered tf2lobby from a friend back in mid 2013. I've been lobbying with lollerz pretty much from the get go (whether he liked me or not I thought he was amazing and always joined as medic to pocket him). Got asked to play on a UGC Silver 6's team a short time later as my first season of playing on a team but right before the roster lock the leader and I got kicked with no explanation.

Scrimmed iron 6s against nursey's team.

Got rolled, became friends, played HL with her for a while.

Was fun.

I was checking the teamfortress website for comic updates and saw an announcement about some streams of competitive casts, so I decided to check them out. It was the end of both UGC and ESEA seasons so it was gearing into LANs and grand finals and all that excitement, so I kind of got sucked in. A few weeks later some kid was proudly talking about his iron HL team in a pub and I was in a good mood so I started talking to him. He ended up convincing me to try out as a sub for his team. My "tryout" was on a community Hightower server (just keeping it really classy), and my sub status ended up translating into me playing nearly every scrim and match. It wasn't a very good team, but I had enough fun to keep going on to new teams.

My friend got me into the game, and I actually discovered competitive via Muselk believe it or not. Even if the guy doesn't play competitive got to give him credit for putting it out there.

I saw small snippets of competitive play before then (I specifically recall a 6s match on vanilla viaduct, when the righteous bison was still whitelisted) but I didn't really fully pay attention until late 2011, because STAR_ had a video of him showing how busted the pomson was in 6s lobbies

I ended up being around just in time to see esea s11 in full, wherein a super team destroyed for the entire season and then went 0-2 at LAN, that was fun
