Recently whenever I connect to a server the map loads but I can see only the "geometric" outlines of some constructions on the team selection screen and shortly after the game disappears(crashes, but without any error message or actual freeze)...

My computer has been acting strangely recently, chrome tabs crash(Aw, Snap!) ALL the time and some background programs show error messages full of numbers every once in a while, suppose those could be connected.

halp, Avast found no viruses... What can I do? What might be causing this?

Grab yourself a usb stick because it's memcheck time. (google it, comes with most linux live disks)

Also, if you can, check your hard drive's SMART (don't ask me how to do that on windows).

There's probably also a tool or two out there to check for dying GPUs.

Your CPU is fine. Either it's working fine or the whole computer won't work at all.

I've heard motherboard issues can be a pain to diagnose though.

SmytherAlso, if you can, check your hard drive's SMART (don't ask me how to do that on windows).

in a command prompt, type the following two commands (enter after each):

wmic
diskdrive get status

if you don't know this is your hard-drive's self-monitoring thingy. you might need a different tool to diagnose it further if anything other than 'ok' pops up. but

i think memtest86's your best bet, it should come as an iso or something for you to create a bootable usb/dvd.

you could also refresh windows if that doesn't work (keeps your files intact, but im not sure exactly what it does with installed programs as to whether it leaves them installed or uninstalls them and leaves the files.

Sorry for not returning any of the messages and now bumping this thread, but I've been really busy irl and away from my PC.

The windows commands all returned "OK", but memtest showed a pletora of errors, I took pictures of the results:

D: I have no idea of what those mean.

that looks like quite a few errors and you should buy new memory asap.

do you have 2x8GB modules? if so you could rerun memtest on each module to see if only 1 is faulty if you don't wanna replace both (the 27% success rate might imply both are fucked but idk how the tests run exactly)

If you can test the RAM in a different PC but if it works it would actually be worse for you because it'd mean your mobo or CPU are fucked.
Most likely though your RAM is dying. In that case buying new RAM to replace it is the only option.

Lowest error adress is at 5GB, highest at 15GB so it seems like both are fucked.

K, it seems I will need to send this PC to technical assistance :(.

I forgot to add the messages that pop up when it blue screens, which are, as far as I remember, something like "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT", "SYSTEM_EXCEPTION" and another one which had the word "page" on it, but I can't remember well.

Also, do I have a virus? How can RAM just "get fucked"? We're entering winter here, so I've started to turn on heaters and whatnot, there also have been some power outages before, could those be the cause?

Thanks for the help thus far :)

Edit: it's "PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA" a Avast scan triggers it.

It's not a virus.
Stuff can physically break. Have you ever had headphones or a mouse break? Just because you can't see why it's dead or don't understand it doesn't mean it's not fucked.

No reason the send the PC anywhere, all those error message confirm that the RAM is dying.

most RAM deaths occur because of either brownouts or other power fluctuations that the PSU can't smooth out correctly, or because of static (common during weather changes). heaters could cause a drier environment which would make it more prone to static damage.

RAM is one of those few pieces in a computer that can be used for a very very long time, because it only dies to static and power fluctuations usually. RAM doesn't overheat because it isn't clocked very high in 95% of computers, unlike CPUs.

Well, I'm back here since it seems it was not only the RAM, the RAM was not the root of the problems, or I did something wrong when installing it since my computer still behaves strangely.

On the first boot after I installed the new sticks my PC went directly to the BIOS, and it wouldn't recognize the SDD on which Windows is installed. After some googling I tried disabling CSM and it worked; my SSD showed up on boot option and I was capable to make the PC autoboot from it.

After I checked disabled for CSM on the BIOS menu it told me I hadn't made any changes, though, and when I checked the BIOS again it was "enabled" so idk.

The thing, is my computer has restarted seemingly randomly a couple times already, albeit it hasn't shown any blue screens.

I haven't ran a memtest on the new RAM yet, plan on doing that tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any help.

edit: The 1-click overclock I've mentioned somewhere on this forum that I tried using on the past is the ASUS AI Suite 3 thingy, that might have fucked my PC?

One time my PC was restarting so I took it to some supposed technicians and they "reverted" the overclock, but I'm not so sure if I could trust that they knew what they were doing either >-<
