what are your guys thoughts on players like cozen or yomps who got incredibly good in a relatively low amount of seasons, compared to other top players who have been playing forever

Schocky for his movement back in the gold days, cookye/haffi/stark for the smart plays
^ I wanted to say yomps but I don't really feel like he's THE best tf2 player at all time - yes, he's very good and one of the best, but not the best if it makes sense

I think with natural aptitude, the right mentors and the wealth of information online about how this game is played there are going to be people that get to the top level faster.

Okay, hear me out on this one because it leans heavily on Highlander and I understand the lolhl approach. Even though there is a general dislike of Highlander as a format it still takes a fair amount of skill to actually succeed at, some of the better 6s players tend to have some trouble transitioning back and forth.

I do think that 6s would and should weigh much more heavily, but once we get to that level we have to find other factors to separate people out. I think that top 3, at least for NA because I will readily admit to a lack of knowledge regarding EU players, should be

1. B4nny
2. Harbleu
3. Platinum

I think what places B4nny at the top is not just his continual success, but his continual success across multiple classes. He has done it one Demo, Scout, and Pocket at Top of Invite and possibly top 2 or 3 for each of those role during those seasons.

I believe that Harbleu is second because of his performance on both Medic and Roamer over the seasons of invite that he played, with 1st place in Invite generally being traded back and forth between B4nny and Harbleu teams for many seasons in a row. What puts Harbleu in 2nd over the likes of Platinum, CW, and Enigma is his high level of success in HL generally leading those teams. I was going to put together a terrible article for something I was going to call the "TF2 Triple Crown" to see if anybody has won Invite/Premier, Platinum/Premier Highlander, and an Insomnia Lan in the same season. The only person that I found who did that successfully was Harbleu before I quit doing the research because going through Vanilla.tv's archives made me want to burn down buildings.

Platinum for a lot of the reasons of both, being an insanely good Pocket and Demoman over a long period of time.

you could literally plug in like 10 different random eu scouts and have a reasonable facsimile of him, what he does is not nearly as difficult as the other players u posted

aside from the concept of even including hl being sort of laughable (see: b4nny never winning it), harbleu only won hl once all the actual good hl teams quit

b4nny, harbleu , pyyyyour and clockwork are probably my picks for players with all around skill as far as tf2 is concerned. I do think they could play any class at a high level (some with more work than others) b4nny is the best all arounder though.

yeah...not even the best medic from europe
knoxXx? lol

yes, and it's not even remotely close
I don't even think mirelin is the best player, I just think he was the best at the mechanics of medic, the movement. In terms of medics europe is pretty shit compared to NA, I'd say shade, harbleu, pyyyour were all better than any European medic. Obviously b4nny is the best player

knoxxx was definitely better than pure, and probably equal to or better than harbleu

movement is like maybe 30% of the mechanics of medic, knoxxx had better heals, was a much better caller, and had better positioning

and he could play soldier decently too

I agree but I feel like you are missing some of the old school meds like F2 etc.. Euros had some p.good meds

Turinidk how you could ever say not b4nny because he's achieved more than anyone else

i am 100% sure that you can take plat/harb/enigma, make them play as much as banny and they would have as many if not more championships

plat won invite while holding down a career and working 60 hours a week multiple times ~lol~

yes banny has won the most and he should be listed as such but if youre talking about actual individual skill theres a definite subset of players who were better than banny when they were actually playing the game

tlr also was the best soldier on earth by far when he gave a shit so im sure that counts for something

Was it S16, S13, or S10 after all the good teams quit, because there were very good teams in all those seasons. B4nny has come in 3rd a couple of times, and I think 2nd at least once.

Sidenote, when did you become this enlightened anti-HL player. After what, 6 seasons of leading teams to absolute failure and being so proud of that weekend tournament you won. Either way it's a game-type in TF2.

s10 was a summer season with basically 0 good teams

s13 was MAYBE the last decent season of hl (sorta pushing it) but they got to play legendary chokers ET in the finals

s16 was well after all the good teams quit

I weigh things based on the difficulty of various eras

if you include F2 you gotta include Royze, agron, kyyynel, etc. and that's just too much

I trim the list by factoring in the level of play

Turinidk how you could ever say not b4nny because he's achieved more than anyone else

raw achievements (hypothetically) are more indicative of your ability to lead teams than skill as a player. Put b4nny with a bunch of open players and he wouldn't be able to carry them into invite for example. Like there could be a 3rd place scout who's better than all the rest but his team isn't particularly amazing so he doesn't ever get any Ws

lol please don't act like seasons 8-12 was the peak of hl skill. the only players who think that are the ones that were only relevant during that time.

I'm sure I'd convince myself of that too if I started getting 1st place medals immediately afterwards

aside from the concept of even including hl being sort of laughable (see: b4nny never winning it), harbleu only won hl once all the actual good hl teams quit

I was under the assumption that everyone who knows anything about tf2 is, to some degree, an anti-HL player
In terms of most impactful players the two obvious ones are b4nny and knoxxx for structuring a team around playing a specific way.
There are a few players who are extremely impactful mainly because they win every single dm fight, but who also understand the game well enough to not make that counterable. Mike on pocket and clockwork come to mind. I think clockwork might be the single most impactful player to have in a match when he's on just because he can consistently just walk over everyone if he wants to.
Stark is one of the most impactful players in the game right now, his mechanics are extremely solid and although he doesn't maincall he has some of the best gamesense I've ever seen in a player and always seems to be thinking steps ahead.
Oh and I forgot about Seagull, similar to Stark, incredibly smart player who contributed to his team through very competent mechanics and incredible gamesense but while being a flank class so not necessarily the primary caller.

that's what happens when your roamer takes 20% heals and hops into the ubers as soon as your pocket has used 4 rockets and/or died
