SnazWhat a bonkers night. No more clockwork to watch, no more shade mumble comms, and more.... Blaze .... Its just surreal.

B4nny will pull something together I'm sure. I could see the negativity expressed from the community towards him be a determining factor in how long he sticks it out though. Someone can only stick it out in a room for so long where everyone hates them.

I clearly don't lurk nearly enough. Why do people hate b4nny?

more recently, he was a bit shit w/ getting the i55 money to his teammates (which still sounds so silly to me, why is all of the prize money entrusted w/ one person)

Props to them for achieving so much, TF2 must have been boring when you're as dominant as they were.

4hpLosing froyotech and epsilon within a couple of days is surreal to say the least.

Epsilon wasn't particularly surprising(I think to a lot of people); as soon as the news was out that they'd focus on Overwatch I was sure it was all going to fall apart. Froyotech was quite a surprise as I only really noticed clockwork playing a lot of Overwatch.

PendjiOverwatch? Really? I mean it makes sense. It's the 6v6 format, but in terms of being played on pubs it'll probably become any other shittalk moba. Doubt it'll last long unless Blizzard decides to hold 5 tourneys a year.

Regardless of what happens to Overwatch, I'm interested to see if it will actually manage to retain top level players from more skilled games(Tribes, Quake, TF2). I mean, I get that top level players are probably bored having played their respective games so long, but after having played at that level in games with incredibly high technical-skill ceilings, I wonder how long they'll be able to feel 'challenged' by a game like Overwatch.

Blizzard will support an Overwatch pro scene so as long as they're doing well in that then they will actually be pro players, as opposed to TF2, Quake, Tribes "pro" players. That will make a huge difference.

And as long as Overwatch's skill ceiling is high enough in any aspect of the game, which looks like it will largely come down to teamwork, coordination and an understanding of the metagame, there will be plenty of challenge.

Not all of the top TF2 players can be successful in the game, but most of them will probably be better rewarded than you currently are in TF2 even as a mediocre pro. There are plenty of pull factors.

Holy shit I woke up to this. Landmark moment in tf2 history. Time for the new blood to take over the upper echelons of invite.

So that just happened

Another era ends and as always another one will begin - bittersweet to see the team that for a lot of people is modern competitive TF2 coming to its end but hey - if matchmaking really takes off the way people want it to or, hell, even if it doesn't, these are the kinds of big landmarks on this game's timeline that we can point to and say "THIS is why we've sticked with this game for so long. This is what we've seen."

We've seen this game's first consecutive world champions and, so far, most dominant team of all time build up into a blaze heh of unstoppable glory, burn out and fade away as all teams eventually do. It's easy, I think, to undersell the magic of that.

Dignitas, Epsilon, Mixup, Froyotech - these are the kinds of names (and eras) that will be remembered for a long, long time as far as this game goes.

now watch b4nny win next season anyway 8)

This is just really weird dude. A majority of my TF2 memories are from watching b4nny's and plat's team duke it out; now they're both gone.
