As the title says, i'm putting out a bounty.

I will paypal the first person to find and provide a complete & installable way to disable all ingame sound in tf2 exept for hitsound.wav and have it function properly in dm/mge & pub servers.

Reward will be $15-$50 CAD depending on the complexity of the solution.

I've tried to do this myself but, have had no success.

Edit: JarateKing has completed the task, i've added him to send the reward.

Now works with last hits.

only thing I can think of is record an "empty" sound file in audacity or something and go through and replace each individual tf2 sound file aside from your hitsound

Asked about the same thing a year ago

Best answer I got was to make silent vpks to replace every other sound. Never did it though.

$50 to whoever makes me these vpks lol.

I've got neither the knowledge nor the time for such a project.

Something that did this would likely trigger a false positive on the ESEA client imo

I use a flashing crosshair for this purpose and it works just fine.

There's no way to tell how much damage you did with a crosshair though afaik (like the dingaling min and max do)

I'm pretty sure this won't work in sv_pure but eh. I can't really run tf2 to test right now.

Could probably catch some more sounds with game_sounds.txt if this doesn't do enough, I don't really know as much as I'd like about bypassing sv_pure for sounds. Figured I may as well.

That sounds awesome though, like green if you do 100+, blue if you do 70-99, orange if you do like 35-69, and red if you do insignificant damage (colours may vary). Is there no way to do that through hud edits?

honestly you should just find someone to make a sourcemod plugin for it and then add the option to mge/dm servers instead of making it a personal thing since it'll actually be more of a hassle to turn it off/on than it will be to do like !mutesounds or something

is there a list anywhere for the names of all sounds in the game? i wanna remove sounds too but not all of them, just some.

replacing every sound file with a silent replacement doesn't seem too much of a hassle if i know the sounds name and the directory.

I think soundlist will give you what you're lookin for, sv_soundemitter_trace might also help
soundlist gives all known sounds, soundemitter_trace will tell you where sounds are located

If you try replacing all sound files it will only work on sv_pure 0 servers.
afaik valve pubs have it set to 1 and my custom sounds dont work there

Darn, and most scrim servers have it set to 1 or 2.

It's possible, but you'd need a lot of custom fonts, a lot of finetuning, and probably refracts (so dx9 only), only to run into the same problem as damage numbers (where they malfunction if you don't actually see the hit itself). And at that point you may as well just put your damage numbers below your crosshair or something.

My tf2 is having troubles so tell me if this works: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4afmukokujxnht8/sound_removal_basic_yeye.vpk?dl=1
edit: does not seem to :c
edit2: I'm retarted and it does work.

what about that proxy text file that allowed you to disable explosion smoke, that it turns out could also remap sound calls, that works in sv_pure 2 but valve never really patched it?

yttriumwhat about that proxy text file that allowed you to disable explosion smoke, that it turns out could also remap sound calls, that works in sv_pure 2 but valve never really patched it?

You mean the weapon ctx's? You could disable the sounds of some weapons, but that's really it.

Unless you mean game_sounds.txt, which I could never get to work fully and reliably.

has anyone tried replacing weapon sounds?

i wanted to replace the default rocket launcher and original sounds for black box's one.
also, do explosions have different files depending on which weapon used or it's the same file?

was also looking forward to mute voice commands and hurt sounds

i would try all of this if i could, but i have no experience in customization, i'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me about this.

thanks.

any info on the explosions? i was watching a jump demo and it kinda bugged out and the rocket explosions were making a very short, very subtle sound, and it was kinda pleasant. would be cool if someone could replicate that.

i already have the blank sound .wav files, just need the directory of wherever the explosions are located at, and i'm too lazy to try what #20 posted
