KnucklesCrosses is ready for official release!

Hey guys :) First of all I’d like to thank everyone that gave me crosshair ideas/downloads you were all a big help! Also thank you to everyone I bothered about anything :) And a special thanks to MeeMee for allowing me to bitch at him every hour of every day :)

So here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wk6hotxqcirrccj/KnucklesCrosses.ttf?dl=0

Here is a preview of the crosshairs and their labelText:

Step 1:

The first two steps to installing a HUD crosshair is involved in HUD/resource/clientscheme.res. After you’ve opened this file scroll down to the very bottom to a section that should look like this:

http://puu.sh/iQDyj/9fd7b42408.png

Now paste the text from this pastebin: http://pastebin.com/0KaUY2tG at the end, and change “x” to the next ascending number to look like this:

http://puu.sh/iQDA1/d8a13c0d62.png

Step 2:

Also in HUD/resource/clientscheme.res, use ctrl+f to find ECON FONT. After this section, paste the text from this pastebin: http://pastebin.com/jj2XZmfX to look like this:

http://puu.sh/iQDQI/ebe4a19caa.png

Step 3:
Now open the file HUD/scripts/hudlayout.res. This will be where you will edit the crosshair, it’s size, and it’s color. Use the text found here: http://pastebin.com/CYbXZER5 as a template. The text should go near the top and look like this:

http://puu.sh/iQEJ6/347389043c.png

Now to edit your crosshair you have 3 major areas of customization:

1. “labelText”- This is how you change which crosshair is being displayed. You should reference this image: http://puu.sh/iQIft/2cfec7eed5.png to see which crosshair is related to each labelText
2. “font”- Here you change the size of the crosshair and if it has an outline, it’s a little self explanatory.
3. “fgcolor”- Here you can edit the RGB and alpha values.

Batman

TF2

It's the fill in for the Banjo xhair (really just used for hitmarkers)

Added after someone asked me to do the heart, may as well

Someone asked me to make the heart

edit: also I had the potential to make 300 different xhairs... Ran out of ideas. No one has to use the spade and club, but they're there

Hey man, great work. One problem though. It seems as though the crosshairs with labeltext: #, $, %, [, \, ] are missing. Other than that, this is awesome!

The heart one is pretty cool for medic, you could place it under your crosshair and make it blink on hit

I'm pretty sure I followed all the steps correctly but it seems that my crosshair becomes the letter I put in "labelText" and not the crosshair designated by the letter. Anyone know the reason why?

nvm i changed the ttf name to knucklescrosshairs instead of knucklescrosses and it worked out.

I had the same issue, solution:
Instead of:

Show Content

{
"font" "resource/fonts/KnucklesCrosshairs.ttf"
"name" "KnucklesCrosses"
}

Put this:

Show Content
"x"
{

"name" "KnucklesCrosses"
}

x being your #

Ah I didn't notice it was resource/fonts/ in the directory at the bottom of clientscheme.res. I made a fonts folder in resource and put the font file in there, but I'm still getting whatever letter I put for the labeltext value in hudlayout.res. The only thing that does work to get the cross is actually putting the a plus sign for labeltext, just like the plus crosshair I was using from grapes hud. http://puu.sh/iRhd3/7684e0cdbb.png if you don't know what I'm talking about.

While doing that does work, I still want to at least find out why it's still using only whatever I put for the labeltext value, even after I put your font in resource/fonts.

1) Did you do the ECON FONTS step for clientscheme.res?
2) You can omit the second line that just has this in it:

labelText ""

also gentle reminder to restart TF2 anytime you edit clientsheme.res but hud_reloadscheme in console for hud things

Yeah I did the econ fonts step. I know the econ fonts stuff is working because if I put a different size/turn outline off for the font like for example, "size:17,outline:on", instead of "size:16,outline:on", the crosshair will get bigger or the outline can be turned off if I use outline:off. Maybe one of the other custom crosshairs that's in my hud is counteracting with the one I'm trying to install from here? I honestly don't know.

Making it bigger / smaller means the econ fonts part worked right, so it's just having trouble finding the actual crosshair itself. It sounds like it might be the path to the KnucklesCrosses.ttf file - I know I had the same problem as Cookie (#21) where the pastebin differed from the filename, e.g. KnucklesCrosshair.ttf instead of KnucklesCrosses.ttf. Try double/triple checking the path at the bottom of the clientscheme.res file? You can add me on steam if you want other help other than forum posts.
