DontmarqueeI don't know man, shit still looks kind of fucked.
Yeah, I kinda feel like that. It's kind of a vicious cycle downward in high-echelon TF2, where it's hard to justify putting in the huge time investment without an equally matched payout, but it's hard to justify putting in the payout without seeing the time investment.

Please tell me I'm wrong, and that there is a way that we as a community can make the time investment justifiable (because I'm assuming that Ipkane is not budging beyond his stated support). Is there a competitive tf2 patreon or something that I don't know about? Some charity event that would benefit high-tier players? Anything?

if you only play tf2 to "make it" and make big bucks you're doing it wrong and should stop playing alltogether

also why would ANYONE travel to play online.

lan is worth it because of many reasons

-team hangout
-friends
-playing environment
-good ping
-insane pcs
-more stuff that i wouldn't know because i'm not an invite gamer

the combination of all of those things is what makes the travel worth it, not JUST the ping

Ok maybe this has been answered before so feel free to bash me.

Is the total prize pool for TF2 coming only from the TF2 players subscribtions? Or is it funded by CS players as well?

If it's not, why not have ourselves our paid league on our own and then decide if and how we want to have LAN finals?

dashnerNot my personal opinions but likely that of the players:

It's almost completely ping. Blaze and Lansky for example play all season on 100+ ping from the west coast. .

to be fair it's about 80 on average for the both of us, but its not difficult to understand competing at the top level should be on even ground. playing online is a joke for our team because every other team plays with 20 ping soldiers

getting to see friends in person is the real prize

people have shown this many times but lpkane mentioned they aren't operating at a loss for TF2

very rough estimates ( feel free to correct any incorrect numbers, 7 player average per roster came from lkpane)

invite: $85 * (9 teams * 7 players each) = $5355

IM: $15 (unsure about this, rough estimate) * (16 teams * 7 players each) = $1680

open: $7.50 (unsure again) * (almost 60 open teams last season * 7 players each) = $3150

very rough premium estimate: (60 open + 16 im) * 7 players * (2 months a season? * 6.95/mo) = $7400

total not including premium fees $6.95 ish a month for every player in open/im: $10,185 (premium adds quite a lot to this), putting it over the prize pool of 16k when you add premium

cant speak for the rest of invite, but all i am truly concerned with is not being at a loss for going to an event. if i can break even, i'd still go just because it's a fun hobby. im sure this sum can help facilitate that to some degree. i'd be willing to not have a significant prize pool if travel could be covered for all teams

flameif esea wants to front nick leons bill for renting out a warehouse and equipment for friday and make gxl sat-sunday that's legit, otherwise its actually dumb af.

Basically this.

This is a BYOC LAN, and we just happened to have some computers for use just because CEVO had them there, holding CEVO finals.

I would not expect ESEA to put responsibility in someone's hands other than their own to make some other LAN hold their LAN finals, and as flame said, I wouldn't expect them to help with computers or other expenses (once again, in someone's hands that isn't their own).

It's a cool idea, but not in the cards at all. Not even a little bit.

tbh this kind of ruins my motivation because I always looked forward to an invite lan experience, and if all the invite label conveys now is being a bunch of onliners it becomes way less prestigious. I'll keep playing in the hopes that lpkane brings lan back but if it was for sure gone forever I'd quit ESEA.

its a fairly misleading point when you consider time and effort. while there isnt that much time and effort needed to be spent on tf2, the return rate is also a fraction of the value as spending it on cs

were reload to be paid hourly rather than on salary, im sure the time spent maintaining tf2 would probably put them at a loss for example.
