marqueeMad Men, Monet, and Ding Dong Daddy are dead and hopefully r5/lolcirca's roster gets booted out. I'm assuming cafe monster, HBS will get bumped in, but that leaves a few spots open that need to be filled since mix^ and now froyo(?) are probably dead. Possibly 6c and coke? I don't know man, shit still looks kind of fucked.

what evidence is there for mix^/froyo deaths?

the idea of hijacking community run lans to waste an entire day on invite finals from a lanless league again makes me cringe.

while i think its cute everyone is thanking them for not dropping tf2, I don't think relying on other community run events to pick up their slack is a good idea.

why not? lans are fun and encourage people to play. i don't really think there's a downside to having lan.

We can, we would just lose top players like ETF2L does every season. New ones would replace them, hopefully.

blendtecWe can, we would just lose top players like ETF2L does every season. New ones would replace them, hopefully.

In my opinion, this good for high level tf2. Personally, I'm tired of seeing the same one or two teams practically dominate every season at LAN. I see so many new players and teams in ETF2L Prem each season and it's refreshing. It gives up and coming high level players a better chance to shine and make a name for themselves. Not to say froyo/mix/elevate don't deserve to win, because they certainly do. Either way, the future of comp tf2 is extremely exciting, even without ESEA LAN.

1. If you're talking about doing it for ESEA, this is almost out of the question. ESEA takes their branding + reputation very seriously and I seriously doubt they will just entrust us to manage a LAN finals on our own.

2. In terms of a self-run LAN, from my perspective being an organizer for GXL 2014 trust me when I say this is an almost impossible task to try to make it worth it for the top 4 invite teams to fly out. You need a prize pool close to 10 grand to match ESEA. We had a $2,500 prize pool from GXL because me and Nick donated our own money. We ain't doing that again.

The loss of LAN sucks, but it's also something that's almost impossible to replace without ESEA running it.

Maybe a community funded lan prize pot? That's essentially what Europe did this season, right?

I don't think thats a fair assessment, we dont really lose more top level players because we dont have a lan, some people just move on. Some pause for a season or so. Actually lots of oldschool players have been coming back last few seasons.

This is actually a good idea, although I'm not really sure how successful it would be. ESEA winnings from online playoffs could help offset some of the travel costs.

maybe instead of having a lan for esea this season we can instead host a tournament in a community lan for the teams that want to be funded to compete at i55.

Once some of the features like stream lists and matchmaking get implemented, it's possible that sponsors might show interest in TF2 again. If we ever get to that point, regular LAN events could be a thing.

dashnergargleburrymaybe instead of having a lan for esea this season we can instead host a tournament in a community lan for the teams that want to be funded to compete at i55.
Assuming that you're referring to a tournament hosted at i55: this is certainly an option and one that I support the most. ESEA-Invite being online presents a unique opportunity since travel costs are no longer a factor. Remember that iSeries typically has a prize pool of $7,500 USD approx. If you go there fully covered and finish in the top 3 you stand to make money for your trip.

im talking about instead of doing the i55 na qualifiers online we can set it up at a local lan around july. this would allow lan ping and fps to be a factor as it would in i55 lan and could make a huge difference on the competitiveness and the outcome of the qualifier since some teams(elevate, classic mixup) play very different on lan then they would online.
