ABOUT

We visited Valve regarding competitive TF2 and now it's time to spill the beans! On April 28th, 2015: Five figures from the TF2 community travelled to Bellevue to visit the TF2 team: Enigma, B4nny, Seagull, Extine, and Mana. We asked for support for the game we know and love, and we're getting it. Tune in to Fully Charged as we go into full detail about the trip and what it means for our game long term. Hosted by Getawhale and Buick. Guests: B4nny, Seagull, Oplaid, Enigma, and Mana. Production by dashner.

How similar will tf2 matchmaking be to current csgo matchmaking?

How will different classes be dealt with in the rating system?

How much continuing input will the competitive community have in the matchmaking service?

what prevents hackers from flooding the system
heard it's already really bad in csgo and you actually have to pay for that game

How is communication gonna work? Using your voice is very important and I assume not everyone will have a mic.

I've read the line "and we're getting it" at least 30 times and it still gives me the same feeling I love you guys still haha

Edit: I came up with a few questions. Is the hype that this has been getting in even just this short amount of time justified? I can't help but be nervous that I'm getting over excited. Do you guys think this will actually result to something? What is the most you expect to come from this?

Will the match making system be similar to MvM's? In terms of internal functionability

Will VAC be reworked for this? It needs it seeing how flawed it is as hacks like premium LMAOBOX are undetected.

Can you discuss your actual relationship with Valve now?
Will this be an ongoing line of communication or was it simply a one off to put our minds at ease?

I really interested to see what happens in terms of rebalance when MM eventually comes out:
Will they be looking for feedback from the competitive community or mainly using player data?
Tell us everything they said with regards to class and weapon balance!

writing some questions down before work. will probably edit/add a bit more later.

    * what other exciting, maybe "smaller" things were discussed or confirmed? Mana mentioned video editor should be excited (paraphrasing). an update to the demoUI?

    * what changed the tf2's team mind on supporting competitive? correct me if I'm wrong (sleepy still), but in the eXTV video, it was mentioned that matchmaking would be both 6v6 and 9v9 format. what are the details on that? I believe the video also stated there will be no class restrictions.

    * does this mean "blog" posts instead of essentially hidden "news" posts for competitive news/events?

    * did they have any thoughts on the current state of competitive? specifically NA TF2 like ESEA and UGC?

    * who all attended? how long has this meeting been planned? will the community ever see the published letter sent to valve?

    * piggybacking on Admirable's above question; are they looking to garner specific feedback from any particular person(s) or people(s) once things like matchmaking are released?

it just seems bizarre to me that all of this comes now. maybe they do feel a little pressure from Overwatch. maybe they would genuinely like to see tf2 grow into a bigger game in the "e-sports" world. maybe it's a combination of the two, and other things I'm not even realizing. regardless, I appreciate this particular group of people who wrote the letter and attended the meeting on the community's behalf. thank you - looking forward to seeing what transpires.

Any ETA for any of these big updates or is it Valve Time™ ?

Can you elaborate more in depth what you discussed regarding the changes for people who edit tf2 videos? After watching extine vlog I got super excited with that. Are they just porting the changes they did to csgo demo ui and ironing out bugs or something else more? Any of those is totally fine for me.

Have they discussed possible monetization of competitive through items, cases/keys, etc?

Also have interest in Admirable question, it would be really good to have a constant line of feedback for both ways so all this can go as smooth as possible.

Also, have they thought or did they even mention about reaching out for help or in best case scenario hiring community members who have already created a lot of tools for the competitive community and contributed a huge amount to the technical aspect of the community, and which would make their work a lot easier? (ex: GentlemanJon stats and ranking work, anakin, f2, bluee, tsc plugins, zoob logs.tf, tf2center devs, lange's mge, etc)

I reckon for example for ranked matchmaking would be really cool to see them reaching out to Jon after his notable work with player rankings.
